Looking for 1987 Convertibles with VIN 3
Guys, I'm building a database of all 1987 convertibles. If you know of one and can get me details, it would be greatly appreciated. The details I'm looking for are:
VIN
Exterior Color
Interior color
fabric or leather
manual or auto
any stripe color
If a Z28 or LT, what color are the GFX or bottom of the car
roof color
None of this information will be published online or in magazines/books. My research is only for determining the rough number of Z28 verts since most were IROC-Zs. By my current count, the ratio is 5:1, but I've been focusing on looking for Z28s and haven't grabbed as many IROC-Zs as I should have. This research will be for the future documentation purposes only. It would be nice to know how many 5 speed Z28 verts were built, how many 5 speed IROC-Z verts, etc. Thanks for any help.

If you can tell me anything about the "build" or order sheet, please do. I'd like to know more about it. Also, when I have looked at door panels, I can't find ANY that are exactly this pattern, especially the lower section which is straight. All that I have found as replacements have a different lower pattern. Do you know anything about that? Appreciate it.

1987 Z28 Vert in the salvage yard. Met a sad end as a result of a minor engine fire. And when I say minor, I mean minor.
VIN 1G1FP31H9HN155360
Red w/ silver gfx
red interior, the '87 burlap type cloth
LG4 w/ auto, no G80
Had the large bottom stripe, red and black
silver bottom gfx
black roof
Car was loaded with the creature comforts, I snagged what I believe were the factory fogs and switch. Interior had power everything, mirrors, locks and windows. Rear view did not have a map light. Trunk lid was full of cancer, no rust on the rest of the car. Snagged the 20th map pocket!

I'm assuming this is an IROC-Z with the mention of the blue stripe. Is that correct? Thanks for the info.

Fabric..
I just bought this car....100% original condition down to the radio and speakers and paint. Very good condition. My car has the "20th map pouch" did all 87 verts get these?

All factory 87 verts got the map pocket. If you see an 87 vert without one and a plaque in that spot that says special edition, that's a coupe that was converted to convertible.

Re: Looking for 1987 Convertibles with VIN 3
I recently posted some info on a convertible conversion I did so reading this older thread leaves me with a question. Were there convertible conversions built by ASC or others that had a VIN designation of 2 instead of a 3? Did GM just grab "T" cars off the line and send them out for conversion?
Thanks
Tony
Thanks

Re: Looking for 1987 Convertibles with VIN 3
The VIN 2 cars were dealer ordered convertibles and not factory ordered. A dealer order was for an individual that wanted their cars converted. I think ASC stopped doing the dealer orders after they got the contract with GM for factory orders. I'm not sure why someone would get their car converted when they could just order a factory convertible, unless they already owned the car. I don't know. I'm just speculating.

Re: Looking for 1987 Convertibles with VIN 3
Good to know. I wonder how the change to GM offering a convertible option matches up with the third brake light change, IIRC there were 2 different spoiler brake light lengths for the 87' year, I ran into that when looking for a rear spoiler, the one on my donor convert was scrap from the wreck.
Thanks for the reply.

Re: Looking for 1987 Convertibles with VIN 3
A little trivia that most don't know about is the third brake light on the '87 spoiler is from a Ford F150. If you look at the lens, it has the Ford logo.

Here's mine. You don't want to see the pix of the actual car just yet. Its about 75% thru a full ground up. The details are
Black Exterior **** 305 TPI *** 5 Speed *** J65/G92 with 3:42's *** Grey Leather Interior.
The others you can read off the SPID here.

Not nearly enough! I only have about 100 of the 1007 produced. I've reached out to Allied Vaughn to see if there is anything they can do to help. I'm not sure if they have a way of searching based on year first, then partial VIN of 1G1FP3.... If they can only do it based on VIN, I might never get a list from them. Plus, at $50 a pop, I can guarantee that I won't be paying $50,350 for the invoices!

She developed a strange knock which I am assuming is a rod talking to me but she's still a numbers matching car! I hope to pull the motor and freshen her up in the next year or so because she has fresh paint. 305 TPI 5 Speed and 3:08 posi.

Re: Looking for 1987 Convertibles with VIN 3
I might, but I'm not sure. They didn't list the full VIN in the listing, but I have one documented that matches exactly what they provided, is white, with a black top and has tan leather interior. The VIN I have 1G1FP31F8HN145496. So, I'm not sure if this is the same car or not.
I also like how they list the car as 1 of 200 and it's called a Chevrolet Cameron Z28.

I didn't have this last one documented yet, so thanks.
Is that grey interior or dark charcoal/black. Also, is the roof color black? I'm assuming it is because of the black accent.
