Picked up 92 Formula…..How many like this?

Been with out a F Body for a few years now. Been looking for one for my Step Son to drive and just came across a 92 Formula.

The car is in amazing shape for the age. As I was checking it out I was surprised at the lack of options on this car. Basically I am curios , the experts on the board here think there could be of a car like this. I know that there is no way of knowing exactly, and I am pretty stoked to hap upon a unique car. Not that I am looking for any real value aspect, just because its cool!
I will post the RPO list which is crazy short, but basically it has all the go fast stuff, TPI, 5speed, dual Cats, better gears. This is a Hard Top car.
Only options it seems are rear defrost, tilt wheel & AC. Not even a rear hatch release!

It looks as though someone almost specifically ordered a 1LE. without ordering one. Other thing is cool is that it is a black interior which from my experience you do not see as often.

Thoughts?

Does not seem I can post pics yet?

Re: Picked up 92 Formula…..How many like this?

Compnine shows 883 1992 Formulas in their database. So that is the starting figures we have to work with.

All Formulas have WS6 suspension. Of the 883 in Compnine's database, they have 146 showing equipped with the LB9 and 5 Speed. All 146 of those have the GU6 gears and N10 exhaust. Of the 146 in their database, 86 of them have the factory T-Tops. Of the 60 that didn't have T-Tops, 19 of those had the black interior.

Again, these figures are from Compnine that show 883 1992 Formulas in the database. GM itself did not keep track of options on top of options to figure these types of details. So the figures may never be 100%.

Re: Picked up 92 Formula…..How many like this?

Thank you! That's pretty wild!, What do you think about the lack of options? I saw it was built in June of 92. Really makes me think someone was specifically ordered a car to be as fast as possible, like a 1LE, but with the 5 speed.

Re: Picked up 92 Formula…..How many like this?

There was 1LEs with the 5 speed.

Regarding options, the Formula was known as the lighter weight, less frills, car that was more about performance.

Re: Picked up 92 Formula…..How many like this?

I want to say my 92 Formula (sold it to Copperhead a few years ago) was optioned pretty much like this, LB9/MM5/N10/GU6. Arctic white with black interior, hard top. Next to no options, just performance stuff and AC.

Did not know that, that's cool. I am aware of Formula's. Over the years I have had 6 Third Gens not counting this one. Been around a lot of them. I had never seen one with so few options, other than a friends 1LE.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Picked up 92 Formula…..How many like this?

What kept this from being a 1LE was probably the C60 A/C. There is one yellow fully loaded Formula 1LE out there with T-tops and A/C...

Firehawks were 1LE and had A/C. Or was 1LE combined with B4U specifically allowed to have A/C?

Re: Picked up 92 Formula…..How many like this?

JT informed me there was no CC1, 1LE, C60, W66 cars... I thought there was an article about a yellow one...

However there was one Firehawk with CC1... but I don't remember if that was one of the cars without B4U

That is a non B4U car (none of the non-red ones are real B4U), but yeah that may be so about when CC1 was thrown in the mix.

Re: Picked up 92 Formula…..How many like this?

The final Firehawks were built after GM production had ceased so the cars were grabbed from zone inventory. It's entirely possible one was equipped with A/C - heck there was one with T-tops & one convertible too!

You misunderstand, I was saying that ALL of the REAL 1LE/B4U 'Hawks had A/C.

I shouldn't have even mentioned it tho, as okfoz pointed out, we are talking about 1LEs with CC1 anyway.

Re: Picked up 92 Formula…..How many like this?

At the end of the day it appears that it was possible to get a 1LE with Either CC1 OR C60...

- Here are some examples the B4C Police cars never had T-tops, but they had A/C
- Firehawks, same thing, were available with A/C but none of the B4U cars had T-tops
- There is an article from June or July, 1992 Muscle Car review IIRC, that had a Yellow Formula LB9/MM5/1LE w/ A/C (this is the car I was speaking of earlier)

The TTA seems to be the exception as most of them had the 1LE equipment AND T-tops. However that was an exception because the TTA is the only "1LE" production car to get a V6 engine, therefore it was lighter.

On the Camaro side, I have not seen any 1LE's with T-tops
On the Firebird side I recall a Trans Am from a few years back 1LE that had T-tops, it was the grayish blue color IIRC.

Of course there are probably some exceptions, but that is what I can figure.

Guys
I have a 91 1le with CC1, LB9, and MM5 with no AC. So the combo does exist. Limited to 2 only is what I have been told. Also, have 3 other 91 1LE's. One that I purchased new in June of 1990.

Re: Picked up 92 Formula…..How many like this?

Don't think there is a dispute there.

Compnine shows 8 of that combo (W66, 1LE, CC1, LB9, MM5 and no A/C) for 1991. Add the C60 A/C and then it's 0.

Compnine doesn't have complete records, but for 1991 and 1992 their database shows no 1991 or 1992 Firebird with 1LE and both C60 and CC1. It's either 1LE with C60 or 1LE with CC1 as John noted above.

I think its RPO sheet is even shorter, and now it's missing the AC too . . . definitely purpose-built, with no cruise control or power anything except hatch.

Cool, this one doesn't not even have hatch release. Just rear window defogger!

Who knew we had it so good, we could still order a car as light on the options as you wanted, even build of 1 of 1 if we were smart

Re: Picked up 92 Formula…..How many like this?

Nothing that unusual here. With the later cars most of the options were in packages. A 92 Formula ordered with that engine/trans automatically triggered the performance package. The 1SA option package triggered the lack of interior and luxury options. So basically if the buyer just wanted the cheapest Firebird available with a 305tpi and 5spd, that's about what the car would look like with the minimum boxes checked on the order sheet.
