1LE Pricing or Value?

I'd like to pick one of these up at some point & leaving the 1988 cars out of it for the time being....what is the going rate for 1LE cars?

I've seen some on e-Bay going in the 20's & 30's then some that don't get bid over 10 or 12k & there isn't much apparent difference between them to justify the gap.

Has anyone got a good feel on what the market is for these at the moment? What's a high price & what's low?

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

At Chicago Mecum last fall 2 1LE's sold for around 17k and 2 did not sell with the bid's in the 30k+ range. I seem to remember the two that didn't sell were very low miles.

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

I just bought another one, I have always loved them because they are different.... To me, it's cool to see a car made as late as in the early 90s with no AC, crank windows, radio delete, etc... they were just unusual since so many of them came loaded. Unlike a TTA or 15th anniversary TA where most of them were basically all the same, many of the 1LEs are differently optioned from each other. Many of my friends and I talked about them as kids but never saw any in real life until many years later. The difference in price is the mileage... Ones with really low miles I think are $20k+ cars now, ones with miles are bringing around 10k-15k if they are nice drivers. I have seen some previously raced R7U 1LE cars advertised lately in the $40k+ territory in recent hemmings listings.

From what I have seen, there are more available with miles (over 40k miles) than with low miles and the low mile cars are getting snapped up pretty quick these days by collectors. Like anything, there are people who will think that certain ones will be worth more than others... IROC vs Z28, LB9 5-speed vs L98 auto, one with options like leather vs ones with the base cloth interior, radio vs delete, etc... But I like them all and hope you add one to your collection soon!

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

Seems mileage and condition are huge factors. All the 20k-30k cars have ultra low miles and are in showroom condition. The cheaper ones seem to be "drivers" Still clean and with higher miles, Hagerty would call them condition 3 or maybe 2.

I seen one local asking price was $5000, LB9/T5, 12x,xxx miles, nice paint, drivers door was dented, 4thgen seats.

Heres another http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/4941117313.html

That is actually a pretty good deal on the 91... Miles are not awful, Price is reasonable for a 1LE... I would normally see prices like that on a car w/o 1LE...

Is it true there were several 1LE TA's built with A/C?

IIRC 1 Firebird for sure, several hundred B4C cars that also had 1LE, many if not all The Firehawks had AC & 1LE, and the TTA had the equipment but no RPO.

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

I seem to remember an 89 or 90 TA or GTA on e-bay several years ago, possibly in Virginia or Maryland that was a 1LE with A/C.

It would have been a Trans Am... No GTA had 1LE (unless you consider the TTA a 1LE) The only cars to get the 1LE option are the following:

1988 - 1990 Trans Am & IROC
1991 - 1992 Formula, Trans Am, Z28 & RS with B4C.

There are also some 1LE's out there with T-tops & Radios too... But you could not get a 1LE with both T-tops & A/C...

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

First, you can get the White book FREE (most years) here

https://gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heri...tion-kits.html

nice thing is it is legit.

I downloaded all of the Camaro that they had for 1982-1992

Most of it is gobbly gook for the geek, but other stuff is kind of interesting, it takes the argument away, as it is legitimate information...

EDIT:
Apparently only 1986 & 1988 have the White Book pages....

I would think you would have to look for 91 or 92... Very very hard to come by,

Here is what I know:
the B4C 1LE cars were NA with T-tops, so that eliminates most 1LE cars right there.
The TTA were all Auto
You could not get the G92 with T-tops on a Z28 AFAIK from 1990-1992, so I suspect you would not find a 1LE there either...

Your best bet would be a 91-92 Formula, you might find a 91-92 Trans Am, come to think about it I think there might be a trans am out there it was a darker color (I want to think it was the dark Jade or something color), there are pix of it in the history board somewhere that someone claimed to have a Trans Am 1LE with T-tops... NO A/C obviously.

My bet would be there would be less than 5 with the combo... might only be 1 or 2.

Good luck.

There was a red 91 or 92 Formula 1LE for sale a year or two ago that was a 1 owner car with t-tops and a 5-speed. Had well over 100k but it was legit, confirmed by the RPO codes.

Damn!

Let me know if it pops up again - I'm a sucker for low production special cars.

I used to know someone who ordered a 1990? (can't remember), 1LE Formula with AC. It seems Pontiac was a little bit more flexible than Chevy.

Anyone know if leather was a popular option on 1LE's? I've only seen a couple 1LE and it seems most had leather.

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

I think as word got out & the regular buying public could order them without special approval, some added whatever options they could to the cars with the idea of future collectability in mind. Leather & stereos were ordered, plus anything else they could include without bouncing out of the package. Even some of the B4C cars were ordered this way with the same rarity/value idea in mind.

Yeah, I completely agree, people tried to order some of these to be even more unusual or rare. In the case of leather, there are a number of them out there.

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

This one seems to be more in line with traditional or current pricing....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Camaro-z28-1le-/171844261005?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2802b7548d&item=171844261005
Zero bids currently, no reserve starting at $15,000.

Rare 1992 Camaro z28 1le with z03 25th anniversary option. The number of this option combination is unknown, but it has to be very low. Only 116 of these cars were built in 1992 with the 1LE option and were built for scca racing teams.Original engine, trans, rear diff.Runs excellent with no issues-drive it anywhere with no concerns.Complete documentation including factory owners manual booklet and related booklets, original sales invoice, window sticker, master build sheet, interior build sheet, and service receipts while the car was under warranty, plus additional ones.Has new bridgestone re930 tires(700 miles) and brake pads.Has an ac-delco battery 2 years old.The undercarriage is spotless-no rust ever on the car and no undercoat to hide anything-just the original red paint and grey sealer. It has been wiped down clean and looks spotless. There are no leaks of any kind.Has the original gm exhaust system and is solid. The original fuel injectors have been replaced with bosch type 3 injectors, and the original ones go with the car.(the gm Rochester aluminum body ones from the era were junk in most gm cars).Car has always been a fair weather driver and stored in heated garage during the winter months.Interior is in perfect and clean condition throughout.Steering wheel shows very light to no wear.Being a 1LE Camaro,it as factory installed corvette brakes in front, disc in back,G92 performance gear ratio, aluminum driveshaft and spare, baffled fuel tank, larger tires, and 145 mph speedo. In 1992, 116 1le Camaros were built for scca competition, and 589 were b4c/1le equipped,so this is a rare car. These were pretty much lightweight cars with only a few available non-power options. This one has a super rare factory ordered am/fm/cd,z03 stripe kit, optional custom cloth interior, and 5.7 automatic optionsOrdered with floormat delete, there are gm front mats included with car. This car is a 3 owner car-original owner,a second local owner, then the original owner again, then myself.Body is nice and straight-paint is glossy with minor touched-up rock chips in hood.Everthing works and would be able to do road trips with no problem.Loan/lein records shown on autocheck are previous owners. No leins or loans on car.Clear/clean title in my possession.Car is being advertised locally,so I reserve the right to end this auction early. Please e-mail with any questions.

That one was just sold from southwest Corvettes and Classics... I believe it sold in the mid 40k range from what I was told by a dealer that knows them. It now has twice the mileage LOL... http://www.swcorvettesandclassics.co...414/index.html

They still have the 350 / automatic one with 2k miles (and the aftermarket stereo that needs to be removed )

I actually own the car you are mentioning, 1991 Formula 1LE. Bought it sight-unseen and had it shipped from Florida. The original owner ordered it in Wyoming.

Turns out there are 8 91 Formula 1LEs with T-tops and the LB9/5spd combo. 3 of those are red exterior/grey interior and mine is the only one with the 1SC package, PW, PL, PM, Cruise control, AM/FM cassette tape with equalizer, body side moldings, etc. The guy wanted all the creature comforts, without AC, and the 1LE. Had to place the order 3 times before GM took it.

Here are the relevant RPO codes:

1 – 1991 Formula 1LE with T-Tops, the 5.0L/5spd, Bright Red exterior, Medium Dark Gray interior and the 1SC option package

• 1LE - PERFORMANCE PACKAGE COMPONENTS PERF PKG(1LE)
• CC1 - ROOF, HATCH, REMOVABLE PANELS, GLASS HATCH RF(CC1)
• W66 - FORMULA OPTION(MERCHANDISING OPTION) FORMULA(W66)
• LB9 - ENGINE, 5.0L(5.0F), V8 EFI CAR ONLY 5.0F(LB9)
• MM5 - TRANSMISSION, MANUAL 5 SPEED PROVISIONS(MERCHANDISING OPTION) 5 SPD M/TRANS PROVISIONS(MM5)
• MK6 - TRANSMISSION, MANUAL 5 SPEED(BORG WARNER) 5 SPD M/TRANS(MK6)
• 81U - EXTERIOR COLOR, PRIMARY, BRIGHT RED (81U)
• 82C - TRIM COMBINATION, CLOTH, MEDIUM DARK GRAY (82C)
• 82I - INTERIOR TRIM, MEDIUM DARK GRAY INTR TRIM COLOR(82I)
• 829 - SEAT BELT COLOR MED DK GRAY (829)
• 1SC - PACKAGE OPTION 03 (1SC)

Had to redo the interior since it was trashed, but the drivetrain, brakes and suspension are all there (mostly original). Handles great and runs awesome.

Been considering selling it recently since I got the itch to SCCA race, but can't bring myself to hack up a rare car to go racing (even though that is what it was originally built for by GM).

PurelyPMD or anyone else, if you want some more info on the car then send me an email to amoede@hotmail.com with 1LE Formula in the subject line. I can't get on this website at work and I don't log on but maybe once a week.

C41 is AC/Delete, C49 is rear defogger - C60 would be AC.

Simply put, I think the edge the Firebird had on the Camaro for Weight and aerodynamics has something to do with it.... IIRC there are pictures of a Black Trans Am 1LE with T-tops on this site somewhere too. It may be that Pontiac and Chevrolet worked independently, they may not have had the same inspector or the same person with the Feds that allowed or disallowed particular combinations. Or maybe Chevrolet and Pontiac just had different Philosophies.

Obviously there was a difference, you could get a GTA, Trans Am or Formula with the R6P (Performance group) and T-tops (w/ the 5.0 MM5), or even the Formula 350 With T-tops (but you had to get the Black GTA Wheels). The R6P on the Firebird was similar to the G92 for the Camaro, but the R6P included more than just the gear. Where on the Firebird, G92 automatically triggered the 1LE with the Formula/Trans Am, the G92 on the Camaro was simply the optional gear ratio.

--------

It may have had to do with the fact that the 1LE was NA on the GTA, but the performance gear ratio was, so in order to not get the 1LE on a GTA, that was supposed to be standard with a ton of options, including A/C, they created the R6P to allow the GTA to get the performance gears

Have no clue. Doesn't look like it was messed with it all by the previous owner and he really wasn't that mechanically inclined anyway.

Background
The IROC-Z Camaro ends in a bang. This is the first year the 1LE high performance option became widely known and available to the general public. Prior to 1990 the 1LE option was limited to licensed race drivers/teams only. This special package was known in Chevrolet Engineering as 1LE, but it was not an offered as an official ordered RPO feature. The 1LE Special Performance Components Package was triggered when the G92 Performance Axle option was ordered, G80 Limited-slip 3.23 rear and the C60 air conditioning option was not ordered. Air conditioning could not be ordered in these cars. The 1LE IROC-Z’s were classified as race series vehicles.
This 1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z is one of only 28 “1LE” Z28 coupes built for SCCA Showroom Stock racing series competition with the 5.7L/350ci engine. It is build number 21 of 28 ordered with the L98/B2L 350ci. tuned port injection engine and automatic transmission. Because it was ordered without air conditioning, the package also included an engine oil cooler, dual converter performance exhaust, 4-wheel heavy duty disc brakes with front units adapted from the Corvette, aluminum driveshaft and spare wheel, special shocks, special fuel pickup. fuel tank baffle to prevent surge during high-speed cornering, unique durometer jounce bumpers, plus much more. The 1LE option added a whopping $675 to the car's price tag. Fog lamps, which were otherwise standard on the IROC-Z, were deleted to save weight and improve air flow to the engine’s cold air intake system.

1990 Was The Last Year For IROC Production

Re: 1LE Pricing or Value?

There was a blue 1990 Trans Am with T Tops and 5 speed + 1le. I couldn't buy it at the time but the seller wanted $6500. By the time I came up with the garage space, the seller had already parted the car. There is a thread on here somewhere about it. I think he sent the shell to the crusher. It had over 200K so was a high mile car with some rust starting. Still, it was 1 of 4. I always regret not buying it and paying for storage but who knew he would part such a rare car.
