Getting ready to have some touch up work done to my 85 iroc. I have to get the paint for the painter. From what I have been able to find online the paint code for 1985 red is 8537. Under my console lid on the rpo sticker it states wa8774. Both colors are red, but which is correct? 8774 appears to be used on the later years, but not 1985.

My '87 Camaro has a paint code of 8774 (Bright Red).



I've used these guys for touch up paint in the past for a few of my other cars:

Even their paint codes for Chevy doesn't show these codes. Just the one for 8537.

If I were to guess, Code 8537 is a "darker" metallic or Flame Red. Code 8774 is Bright Red (non-metallic).

I am going to get a pint from painters supply. The rear quarter has been repaired at some point in the past with base coat/clear coat not single stage like the factory paint and the clear has turned cloudy. Am having the entire quarter painted so its not like I am getting the tiny touch up bottles.
Anybody with a 8537 85 iroc chime in?

For 1985 the (Lower) ground effects and (Upper) main body both used 8537 a dark red color. It was the only year that an IROC used that color red. They also didn't use a clear coat over it, so it can be buffed out if it has faded. Here is a picture of my SPID and car.

The car still wears its original enamel everywhere except the drivers quarter, which has been clearcoated. The clear is failing and turned cloudy. No buffing that out. Tough to tell from online pics one color from the other
Confusing as to why my sticker clearly states 8774 as its code, when 8537 is supposed to be the red used on 85 irocs

That is very strange! The tenth digit in your Vin# is an F so it is a 1985 if that is the same as the Vin# on your dash. From 1986-1992 they used 8774 which is a brighter shade of red than 8537. It could be an error on your SPID or somebody reproduced the SPID and got the paint color wrong, or maybe they ran out of 8537 and painted it with the next year's color 8774 and it is right? Only way to tell is to get a sample of each color and compare it to what is currently on your car. I'm interested in knowing what you come up with. If it is 8774 it would be a one of a kind. Here is a good paint color chart that also shows the correct paint for 1985 IROCs.

What does the RPO Z06 just ahead of the Z28 on the SPID stand for? Is that the Lear Siegler Conteur Interior? Does your car have the Camaro, Camaro, Camaro interior? Here is the only thing I have found.

Yes, it does have the saddle conteur interior. I guess i will get a pint of each and see which one matchs.

Update. 8774 which is printed on the spid for my car is not the actual color of the car. I got a small touch up bottle and it is a brighter red. The actual color must be the 8537. It must just be an error when the spid was printed back in 1985. Gonna take it to the paint store and see if it matches the 8537 code before purchasing any expensive red paint.

Good afternoon, I know this thread is old but I have the exact same situation with my car. The interesting thing is that I pulled the tuned port injection emblem off to replace it and the bright red paint is underneath that decal. The bumper is original to the car.
