1987 Camaro Convertible Mystery
I've been sitting on this pic for years, forgot about it, and just re-found it. I hate to brag but as much as I know about 1987 Camaro convertibles, I've owned three, I do not know if this rear spoiler decal is original. I have never seen one. Could it be a custom job?

Re: 1987 Camaro Convertible Mystery
well i know that ASC made custom convertibles for mustang in the mid 80's
this could be one of theirs and perhaps an anniversary year for them.

Re: 1987 Camaro Convertible Mystery
the fact is his car has the Z08 RPO for the convertible. Although all "Factory" convertibles were made by ASC have the RPO (those with the 3 in the VIN) and the aftermarket do not have the RPO (those with the 2 in the VIN) otherwise they are identical structurally, parts, pieces, everything down to the nuts and bolts, just the letter.
It almost looks too clean not to be original, The Mustang did not use the RPO Z08, unless by some strange coincidence that they used the exact RPO as GM. What ASC did for the mustang was for the McLaren/ASC conversions, and I thought that was more of a Capri thing, but then again I know next to nothing about the Mustangs...

I don't think any self respecting Mustang guy would have anything with a 'Z' stuck on their car.

Re: 1987 Camaro Convertible Mystery
-Black Sun Visors
-Black Trunk carpet and plastic pieces (I believe this is true)
-NO Shoulder harness loop on the headrests (may be some exceptions)
- 3 for the 6th digit of the VIN

Is this referring to the trunk pieces in black as in the plastics? If so then I can affirmatively state that I have an all original 87 Convertible, the exterior color is black and the interior grey and all the trunk plastics are grey. Perhaps I am misunderstanding the part of thread here about black trunk pieces

I actually looked at an 87 OEM 20th Anniversary vert on Sunday & it had red in the trunk but there are signs that it was swapped from black (carpet that supported the tonneau area) at some point but it did have the correct black sun visors.

Re: 1987 Camaro Convertible Mystery
My car is 3 VIN. I bought it from the original owners nephew and he told me with absolute certainty that the car came with grey plastics because the one thing they had swapped out were the front seats. When I asked why they had done that he said the plan was to switch the entire car interior to black on black and that he gave up before he was ever able to find a complete set of black plastics. Which of course means that it came with grey and not black otherwise he would not have been looking for black. We had quite a long conversation about the whole issue. My car is also a grey leather interior so it would look terrible with black plastics. Just anther reason why I am certain that it was built with grey plastics.

Re: 1987 Camaro Convertible Mystery
My red 1987 20th anniversary iroc was a customer special order that came with the red leather interior and it still has red carpet and red plastics in the trunk. It is a factory convertible not a dealer asc car.

Re: 1987 Camaro Convertible Mystery
I just re-read the last paragraph of your post. YES, mine too has black carpet around the tonneau cover supports/braces. They all had that black carpet there from what I've seen. I think that stuff was added at ASC and they didn't have all the various carpet colors on sight. Where as the plastics came from GM and then ASC just modified them. So I am pretty sure that the plastics came in multiple colors.

Re: 1987 Camaro Convertible Mystery
I stand corrected... It may have possibly been a later year change, 88/89... I do remember seeing Black interior pieces, and specifically in 1991-1992 they were black...
