1982-84 Z28 Wheel Center Cap Color
What finish type is on the stock 1984 Z28 wheel center cap?
They are black molded plastic. Mine were painted red, and want to get back to original black.
Are they?:
Unpainted shiny black plastic
Unpainted satin black plastic
Flat black painted
Satin black painted
Gloss black painted?
The attached photo is a reproduction cap from Rick's Camaro page. The repro's may vary from stock, so interested in factory stock observations.

Yes they were black; a kind of slightly sand textured finish, molded in. Not painted. Not shiny. Not flat.

Excellent help, both of you.
Could get repros, or used originals, but I think I can save these. Were painted gray primer under red body paint, probably when the car was repainted from the stripe up.
They sand easily with 3M pad. NAPA suggested couple coats of adhesion promoter followed by black trim paint. Picked up Satin Black in anticipation they were not flat or gloss. I think they'll turn out fine.
They have a date of Sept 11 stamped inside. Would be nice to keep on the car. And will not need to remove/transfer the Z28 emblems to replacement caps. But do need to replace one missing emblem.
Thank you.

Are you sure they are primered grey? They did have grey caps starting in 1988 for the Sport Coupes and RS models. If they're black inside, you'll know what caps you have.

I wondered about that, but didn't know if newer gray caps were painted or molded gray.
The gray comes off and exposes black plastic. Interiors are black plastic.
Might they still be newer, gray painted from factory?

Nope. The grey ones were molded grey like the black ones were molded black if I remember correctly. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
