1987 Players Camaro
Starting a new thread for the 1987 Players Camaro rolling chassis I recently purchased. Luckily I found a 1989 G92 car as a donor so I will be using the drive train to power the 1987. Seeing as there is no way to make it an original 1987 I will make it into a clone of the 1987 Camaro Ron Fellows raced that year using as much authentic race parts that I can find.

Re: 1987 Players Camaro
Here is the interior of the 1987 Camaro, completely stripped and I was lucky to get an authentic Players bolt in roll bar. Story has that it was in one of Ron Fellows cars that was so rusted it got parted out???? Good story but I have no way to prove but sounds good.

Brembo brakes, was able to get one good pair and also a second pair as spares...Very rare and proper for the 1987.

Re: 1987 Players Camaro
Here's the underside of the 1989 donor car, wasn't sure if it would support itself. This thing is sooooo rusted I think I will just cut the trailing arms to get the rear end out. Will be happy when this gets back on the ground.

Cool stuff. I really like the never-to-be-in-the-public Brembo package! Really cool history on those brakes. Originally developed for the street cars, they already had the design work on the brackets done prior to the race series. When the racing teams needed, they rushed and created a package in like a month. Brembo make up the calipers to spec. I had talked to one of the engineers who work on it. Always wanted to get a set for my living room display ... ha ha.
One set of 1LE brakes I have came off a 1987 Camaro "cut away" car GM used to showcase their products. All painted up. The brembo's were race only stuff.
... sorry to ramble. :-)
Good looking build underway.
Mark.

I do not know much about Brembo brakes but they look good sitting in the box. Large and healthy.

Re: 1987 Players Camaro
Well finally got the 1989 rear diff out of the donor car. Here it is all refinished and under the 1987. Installed a pair of the Delco Bilstein shocks I got as spares with the 86 Players Trans Am, I know they didnt use in 1986 so could have been spares from his 87 or 88?? Went with BMR lower arms, adjustable panhard bar and torque arm seeing as I had to cut the originals to get the rear out of the 89 rust box. Now on to wiring harness, engine and transmission.

Re: 1987 Players Camaro
Rare one year only Rearend....1989 is last year for 9bolt Australian 3:45 and first year for PBR calipers. Whatever the 89 G92 stick car production was is probably all they produced of PBR 9bolts in that gear.

Re: 1987 Players Camaro
Those 30 yr old calipers don't look much different than what comes on today's cars. State of the art back then. And ultra cool now. :-)

A little off topic post as doing only small boring stuff on the 1987. Here's a rare shot, all three Camaro's in the garage at the same time..Middle spot is the wife's and not allowed to park there!
