RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

Check out this beautiful 1991 Firehawk for sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist. These cars don't come up for sale very often so I thought I would post it here. I know these cars are appreciated on this site. There is also a Turbo Trans Am on Pittsburgh Craigslist too.

Thats not a firehawk. A clean car but its not worth 55000 bucks. A few bolt ons and a slp sticker.

Not a Firehawk. It's just a stock formula. Seller is a hoax.

I think firehawk is in the title just for attention. He lists it as just an slp car in the text. It's a nice car but an unrealistic price

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

Does anyone have the shopping list of what came on what packages from SLP back in the day? Looks like this one has the cold air box, siamesed runners and probably the headers?

the car has no ac. Someone probably did it after delivery but there is the ever so slight chance it's a 1le cc1 car that came with some power options. Anyone ask him for the spid?

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

The elbow on the coolant hose off of the throttle body looks factory for 1LE, as well as the clamps. One ck in column for maybe factory 1LE, I know can be duplicated but don't think folks go to the trouble. If proves to be 1LE would be nice to have the VIN for the future as very rare car.

AIR housing is tilted out and dipstick is way back, but can see them being a casualty of header installation.

The car looks to have a large alternator pulley, I assume part of SLP package? SLP sticker looks so 90's with the grid pattern, Really cool!

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

The SLP package was a dealer upgrade. It could be added when the car was ordered, or purchased over the counter from the dealership parts dept. Either way it wasn't installed by SLP, it would have been installed by the dealer, or the customer.

Gotta remember these were the dark ages, so it included early hop-ups.
  • Stainless Tri-Y headers
  • Stainless two on the left cat-back
  • PROM Memcal
  • Cold Air Intake
  • Runners

And the little silver decal with the punches to indicate the parts installed and emissions compliance.

The pulleys aren't part of the SLP kit.

Could have the big brakes, but it'd seem a bit odd on a 1SC Formula with Ttops. The price tag is patently ridiculous, someone is fishing for a sucker.

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

Ouch on the price. Maybe a typo extra 0 lol?

I sent Email for more info. It could just be a northern car with A/C delete?

I have heard and read someplace that SLP would also install the E-legal kit if you took the car to them. Esp before 91-2 when the agreement with GM went through. Need to research this. It may say something in my old catalogs. I got my 50hp kit through scummit

The 2 pulleys and a oil pan were also offered along with numerous other things but as stated, not part of the 50 state E-legal kit.

I have several of those SLP grid decals, silver stickers (nos), oil pan and 2 sets of pulleys, one crank with the alt pulley and one, just the crank pulley.

If you use the crank and alt pulley together on the street, you will have a bad day. The alt pulley was only recommened for roadracing. (I tried it and yup, didn't charge well at cruising speeds)

Back in the day, I bought all the A/C delete items from the dealer for my 89 formula.

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

The car is on ebay now and it has a major title issue in the autocheck record from 2001 which he claims is from it being sent to SLP

Here is the VIN - anyone with an account want to check with compnine to see if its a 1LE car?

Guess I was right, the front rotor looked big and the wiring harness to the hvac box was correct along with the face of the hvac controls

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

Interesting that it's a fully optioned car except for the lack of A/C.

Also interesting that it carries G92 as well as R6P, since the rear gear defaults to being 3.42 just by nature of the LB9 + MK6.

R6B on a 91 Formula is a "value package" in this case - CC1, U75, D42.
R6P is the "Performance Enhancement Group" - KC4, N10, J65, and "Performance Axle Ratio" (aka, G92). Req'd on all L98s, and LB9 5spd Formulas.

1SC includes AC, body side moldings, rear view mirror with reading lamps, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, remote hatch release, 4-way seat adjuster, and cruise control.

AAA indicates standard equipment the last time I looked, and 1SZ indicates a customer ordered car. I'm not sure what V1B or R9Z are, they don't show up in the 91 documentation I have handy. I also don't see any reference to 1LE on the 1991 Firebird Car Order Worksheets I have on file. If the brake upgrade isn't on the order sheet, how was it ordered? Hmm...

The asking price is still ridiculous.

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

Interesting... So it looks like "G92" was only available, with 1LE in this case.

The SPID I kept out of a 91 Formula LB9/5spd/CC1 car that got scrapped a few years ago shows it was optioned very similar, except it had A/C and wasn't a 1LE, also note the missing G92 rpo code. It was also a drum brake rear car, falling victim to the PBR shortage. It carried the R9Z and V1B codes also.

Looked real to me under the hood due to clamps and hoses. How many of these do we know of in existence? There is another red one lurking around here I believe.

Damn off E-bay already too! I wonder what it sold for? His was ahead of mine on the assembly line by just over 900 units.

Tony & John were getting play by play pics this afternoon of the decal install on mine. I'll need to add you to that text list.

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

I played email tag with the seller all day. THe car belongs to his father. He claims his insurance company re issued a "rebuilt" title after the car was dropped off at SLP in 2001. I called him out on that and told him to try and prove that the insurance company did this or prove that the car has a clean title and he never got back to me. Shortly after, the ad was pulled from ebay.

I don't understand why a ins company would be involved in a title if the car was ok?
Did SLP buy it in 91 or what is really going on?

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

Hello everyone, I am, he, the one who was selling this car. It is still available, and I do realize that this is NOT a firehawk. There were no stickers added on, or anything done to the car besides the radio being changed, the original radio is still in my possession. Under the hood is stock from the factory. If you all could please help me and tell me how to prove that this is the real 1LE I would appreciate it.

Also, I was curious how to tell the make of the car since only 64 of the 1991 were made with the LE package, I do have the letter from Pontiac dated 12/20/1995 that states the VIN number 1G2FS23F4ML241035.

About the title, I could only get it insured for more than blue book value if I applied for the collectible plate, the state then reconstructed the title. The title is actually reconstructed collectible.

With the price, I am just not sure of where to list it. If anyone could help me out with a true honest price and value for this car it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

Look for the SPID on the backside of the locking cargo door in the driver's side rear hatch area. It should look like what Drew posted above: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...ml#post6033673

It will have your VIN and several 3 character codes that define the parts used on the car when assembled at the factory.

If that sticker is not present, and you've also checked the inside wall of the center console (there is a cut-off date when the sticker was moved) and the sticker isn't there either, then you could order a copy of the invoice from GM Archive and that should list 1LE. The invoice does not list every single RPO code like the SPID, but it does list some of the major ones and 1LE should be one of those.

You can get an original copy of your build invoice from GM Media Archives - it will show exactly how the car was invoiced which will include the 1LE option list.

My 91 is optioned very much like yours.

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

Oops, JT has the right link.

Pontiac built 108 1LE birds in 1991 - 62 were Trans Am's, 46 were Formulas

Of the Formulas, 8 of them were built with t-tops, all of those were 305/5spds and I think 6 of them were red.
Of the Trans Am's, 19 of them were built with t-tops, 15 of those were Z49 export models. All of the 19 were 305/5spds like the Formulas.

Drew,
You are correct, the G92 was only available on 1LE FIREBIRDS after 1986, in 1986 G92 was the performance axle, starting in 1987 Firebirds really did not have a separate axle option, There are NO G92 Firebirds in 1987, after that the only G92 Firebirds were 1LE cars.

The Camaro was different, they had the G92 Performance option without the 1LE.

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

Hello everyone, thanks for pointing out that it is the 1LE.

I was trying to do some research on, and this is all I could find...

"Beginning in 1991, SLP (Street Legal Performance) modified a factory-built Formula into what they called the "Firehawk". Once a Formula had been ordered or purchased, this limited-availability option (RPO code B4U) could be specified, and the vehicle was sent to SLP to be modified. No two cars SLP produced were alike; they all were special orders. SLP had anticipated making 250 of these special Firebird Formulas, but in fact, only 27 were ordered; and of those, only 25 were ever built (numbered 1–25 for hardtops – with numbers 18 and 23 never being built – and the only Firehawk Convertible was numbered 27 which was the only non-formula). Of those 25 Firehawks, 21 were "Mandatory" Red, 1 Aqua, 1 White, 1 Blue, and 1 Green; 11 had the Competition Package, 3 came with Aluminum Engine Blocks, 1 had T-Tops, and 1 was a Convertible."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontia...ird_generation)

Can anyone confirm that this is true and only one of these 25 that were to be built only ONE has T-tops??

Thank you

True for 91-2 Firehawks.

You have a 1LE formula with the SLP 50hp emissions legal kit installed

Okay understood!

Do you know anything with the 1LE and the SLP package, such as how many have this package?

Thanks!

1LE was factory and you can find out roughly how many 91 1LE formulas there are.

As far as the SLP stuff, It is aftermarket, GM dealers, private individuals and other speed shops could have installed it so no formal records are really around for it.

As PurelyPMD posted:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...ml#post6068195

There appears to have been 46 1991 Formulas with 1LE. Because the SLP package was done at the dealership level, I'm not aware of public records for how many were sold.

I know the OP wants this car to be a one of one, but, anyway you slice it, it is either one of 8 or one of 6.....that is rare bird. To be one of 6 or one of 8 in the volume of Birds and Camaros built is quite a low production number. Just my 2 cents.

Hello, what is OP. I am just trying to figure out how many were made to add to my book of knowledge, I also see it could be one of eight, those eight are not with the SLP package. Do we have any idea what is market value on a bird like this? Thanks

OP = Original Poster

Market value is determined by several things. Clean/clear title, miles, condition, demand and rarity are some of those.

Re: RARE 1991 Firehawk for Sale on Pittsburgh Craigslist

Awesome machine! How many miles?

You definitely need to find the right buyer for this car, because most people won't care about the subtleties of 1LE once the price gets too over the top of another similar car that is not 1LE. This forum is a good place to start. Ebay is possibly another place to try - see 3rd Gens pop up there from time to time and they seem to sell over there.

If you don't get a strong price, I'd just hang on to it. Its a sweet piece of history that will go up in value and it sounds like it was your dads to boot. That makes it even more special.

PS. If you do need to replace anything like shocks, brake pads to keep it road worthy, hang on to those parts. Don't let anyone throw them away. They are valuable even tho they are no longer road worthy.

Don't bother. I've had the ENTIRE interior out of countless thirdgens, and I've yet to find a complete buildsheet that was really of any value. Most of the time, what I've found has been various tags and labels off subassemblies, but most are so weathered or otherwise damaged to be of zero value. The vast majority of cars didn't get what most would consider a traditional build sheet.

Just in the last week or two, I pulled all the carpet and panels out of the 91 Firebird I'm working on. It's a surprisingly unmolested car, and I haven't found a buildsheet in it.
