Did you cut the little triangle piece that sticks out from the front of it? I think that gives you about 2 more inches to slide it up.. Mine didn't come with it though..?

I think he means the "horns" that stick out the front. You need to cut those off.

Ok, that's easy enough

Do the Hurst shifters give you any extra clearance?

Yes, triangle was wrong word to use I guess.. but ya if you clip that off you get an extra inch or two which looks to be exactly what you need!!

I think those tabs hold the shift boot in place.
Do you think if it is holding everywhere else it will hold it in place well enough?

I have no idea what you are referring too, but what I am talking about doesn't involve the shift boot. Let me edit a picture real quick.

Like I said, if you cut the piece off I circled in red, it will allow you to push the console up around 2 more inches.

I don't have that piece. I'm tight up against the radio pod.

Re: Third Gen Firebird Console Swap Info

It all works out...

The fourth gen console fit perfect around the cut out in the tunnel.

I have a finger or two in the front to spare! I didn't take the time to look at the donor car with the third gen console but I suspect it's about the same.

I know this is an old post but I’m fixing to do this tomorrow morning using a third gen camaro console that’s going in my Firebird. I’ve always thought the camaro consoles looked better to be honest. But what is that “slightest trim job to the top” mean? What has to be trimmed?

hey and it went just fine, I had to trip about an inch off the top of the bezel so that it could clear the dash and ac vents. I’ll post pictures.

Re: Third Gen Firebird Console Swap Info

Has anyone tried putting a 3rd gen camaro center console inside of a firebird? the rubber inside my 1989 firebirds center console is giving out and my friends camaros (1992) center console is plastic and has a cleaner look to it so I was curious as to if i could put a camaros in a firebird.

Hi, how much did you have to trim off of the camaro console? I'm going to be swapping a blue carpeted center console into my 84 trans am, so i am looking for a rough estimate of what i need to do and if it will bolt right in. Also were you able to use a trans am top half of the console or did you have to use a camaro top? Thank you.
