remove firebird shift knob?

Engine: 350 L98/LS2
Transmission: 700-R4/4L70E
Axle/Gears: 3.27/4.10
remove firebird shift ****?

hey i'm trying to replace my shift plate in my 89 GTA and i just need to remove the shifter **** and it'll be off. how do i do that?

i now this from experience, in the front of the stem of the shifter there a notch where a staple looking keeper comes out of, if you pull that out then the shifter head should just pop right off, if not, dont force it or it will break

ok well i got that pin pulled out, and the **** isn't budging. do i need to do anything else?

well when i got a new one at the junkyard it just pulled off for me, my other one broke cause my frined decicded to twist it off with the pin still in, but thats wierd

it came off eventually. i just had to pull and pull, and pry it off with a flat head screw driver. came right off then.
