Re: Replacement Door Panels Thread
A girlfriend of mine turned some leather and a custom wood panel in a nice door panel....
Looks a bit like stock, but with other accents.
At the moment she is buzzy covering the door handles

My Door Panels aren't done, but you can see what I intend to do...
Custom speaker pod, but shape is following factory angle down the door, but shortening it... Again, I want to keep "stock" appearance... will be covering in tan / beechwood... speaker pods in fiberglass, angled up and slightly back...
Damx, nice job on the panels! The black arm rests on the later cars (both our 91 or 92), the it starts to swell in the middle... I changed mine out for earlier ones (82 through ?) They have an indentation / track just below the pad and up the bar.... they hold their shape much better that what we started with...
I was planning to work on my door panels this week during vacation, but yesterday my daily driver was totaled yesterday, so a lot of plans changed.... No worries, my Firebird in safe in the garage (or this message would note be as pleasant !!!)

Funny story, a few weeks ago I'm at the junkyard fighting to get the black door panels off an old firebird for my camaro. Then I look in the back trunk area and BAM!...2 black like new Camaro door panels style identical to my ugly red ones! Strange.

I made new panels from 1/8 in compressed hardwood and had a seamstress sew up the fabric part for me. I ordered the fabric online. Do a search for upholstery fabric. You will be amazed at the variety. I put pretty thick foam underneath them, so they are pretty plush. I need to tighten up the top where the plastic cap goes on. I also have a layer of sound deadener underneath the foam . It really helps.

Re: Replacement Door Panels Thread
Hi,
I had refreshed the top section of my tan panels but in the end decided I really wanted to switch the interior out and go all black. So started with the door panels and arm rests today and got a new top panel to replace my cracked one. Really pleased with the new look.
The black panels were in fact blue but I cleaned them up and use vinyl paint to change them to black and they look brand new.
