Mounting speedhut gauges?

Hi all, I recently got a set of speedhuts and am working on getting them in the car, an 83 TA.

I would like to keep the original dash trim piece and
position the gauges in the original holes. I also plan to keep the board from the original gauges but only to keep the signal light panel working.

ive considered cutting holes through the plastic that goes over the original gauges and use it to mount the new ones in the right spot, but I'm not sure I'd be able to cut the holes without destroying the panel.

For those with speehuts - did anyone mount them this way? If not, any recommendations/advice?

Excited to get these things in!!

Re: Mounting speedhut gauges?

Not a FB, but they are speed hut.I kept the circuit board for the signals, seat belt, e-brk & hi beam. They barely fit as is.

Not the stock bezel, as the two big gauges are smaller & the 3 smaller ones are bigger than stock units, but the arrangement, signal, warning lamps are in the stock locations.

That looks great!! How did you cut the new bezel so well and clean? (the signal arrows etc.)

Re: Mounting speedhut gauges?

Check out my LS swap thread, starting at post #20 it shows how I did it... Don't mind the horrible workmanship, I didn't have a saw of any type when I did it... Were I to do it now, it would be a better appearance, however nobody will ever see the work anyways!

Re: Mounting speedhut gauges?

I really would like to do this at some point, too. Mainly because I'd like to run their GPS speedometer. I just have a hard time cutting up my stock parts when it's so difficult to find decent replacements around here.

Awesome thanks!! I might just do the exact same thing, it obviously works!

I will have to keep the original green panel in some form as well as I'm hoping to retain the signal lights.

Thanks again for pointing me to this. Super cool swap you did BTW!!!

Thanks... Just do a nicer job with the piece I mounted the gauges to than I did... All I had at the time was a dremel, but now I have a full on set up going so I could do a better job this time (as well as a career change that has me doing precision fabrication of aircraft parts in the air force).
I ordered the Speedo that included the turn signals and high beam indicator.

Where in Canada are you? I recently moved from Ontario to NB.

For some reason I didn't think hard enough about getting the signals right in the speedo, too late now! I'm sure I can make it work.

I'm out west, in Saskatoon

Re: Mounting speedhut gauges?

I did my Speedhut gauge swap back in 2013. Almost a step by step for a 90-92 Camaro:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...i-made-my.html

Then a few months ago when I was redoing my interior harness I altered the wiring:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...ml#post6076491

Installing aftermarket gauges in thirdgens, especially firebirds is easy. Head over to www.austinthirdgen.org for the wiring diagrams.

Was gonna go that route, but decided I did'nt like their little LED sigs/hi-beam indicators. So i just kept them as stand alone pieces.
