good luck with your swap. definitely no need to rush, I think a few of us are taking our time with things; the best deals come when you're not in a hurry!

Re: My 5.3L 91 Z28 build thread (goin to be slow)
looks like one of my buddies is goin to buy the other motor for $250. got another buddy who has a working 4l60e from a truck that he'll sell me for $100.
tryin to think what else to get. mounts, intake, waterpump (might modify a turck one), harness (so i can start setting it up)?

Re: My 5.3L 91 Z28 build thread (goin to be slow)
intake - go ls6 if you're using the heads you have now. unless its free (as mine was), the ls1 intake's not worth paying for just to change down the road again
mounts - i opted for the standard sbc poly mounts and the 1" set back adapters, but I'm not planning on running A/C. if you are, go the spohn/hawks/etc style mounts

Re: My 5.3L 91 Z28 build thread (goin to be slow)
alright i just happened to have those saved in my watch list. so id have to buy LS clamshells? would i have to get the other frame mounts? what did you do about fuel lines? also which fuel rail did you use? sorry if im bugging ive been reading different threads and gettin different ideas.
im goin to be keeping the stock tank just upgrading the fuel pump and adding the vette filter.

no ls1 clamshells - these use your factory third gen v8 mounts & clamshells. I replaced the rubber inserts on the frame side with poly, but its a recommendation, not a requirement.
fuel is being done via 6an line. My car was carbed from the factory, so it made more sense to replace everything this way then to buy new factory FI lines. Using the vette filter/reg as well. Factory fuel rails with an adapter

Re: My 5.3L 91 Z28 build thread (goin to be slow)
sorta. russell makes a quick fit adapter that clips right onto the rails like factory and has a 6an thread on the other side. then i have a single 6an line going to the rear of the vehicle to the fuel filter. pocket's got a great diagram for fuel fitting part numbers around here (repost for ease of use):

oh, and i think it got overlooked, but stay away from the hotrod pan, as it hangs lower than the kmember by a fair amount. stick with the fbody pan for piece of mind, especially if you go to lower the car at all

yeah lookin at the measurements it looked like itd be too low. my buddy asked me if i would be able to use it. wish i had some more extra money cause theres a guy on tech sellin all the accessories i need for pretty cheap.
think i still need:
intake
rails
injectors
throttle body
starter
f-body balancer
spark plugs
255lph fuel pump
alternator w/bracket
waterpump w/ tensioner
power steering setup
motor/trans mounts
vette regulator
coil packs
o2 sensors
gaskets
flexplate
couple sensors
oil pan setup
thats all i can think of off the top of my head.

well my buddy had both a truck and f-body 4l60e and we measured them next to each other. the truck is shorter then the f-body trans. dont remember if it was 2" exactly but it is shorter. the bellhousing and torque convertor are shorter on the truck trans.

With the mounts that move the engine back, what do you do about a transmission mount or even the tq arm? I'm liking that idea a lot honestly..

im goin to pull the tailshaft off my 700r4 and put it on the 4l60e. with the truck 4l60e its actually about an inch shorter then the f-body 4l60e so it should fit into the stock trans mount pretty good. im not goin to be runnin a crazy exhaust right now so no need to buy a trans member.

Ahh...the 700's tail shaft is a 4 bolt, the 4L60E should be a 6 bolt. Just putting that out there.
edit: ahh, looks like you have a 4 bolt flange back there. What did that trans come out of?

The trans you've got is also from a 4.3L S10, the converter isnt right. You'll need the crank adapter kit for an older trans

the mounts he got will put the motor in "proper" spacing as the old sbc was; should be about the same as what the spohn ones do, so you can reuse your old drivershaft and torque arm (mount will have to be specific to the fbody 4l60e you're using). crossmember will be different, so that will have to be modded if you're using the stock piece.

Well, i have used those adapter plates a few times now, they are great but be ready to slot the clam shell to the inside 1/8th inch on both sides usually so they will allow the engine to drop right to the mount and the bolts to slide right in.

Re: My 5.3L 91 Z28 build thread (goin to be slow)
this is my first time completely building a harness. do you guys take all of the pins out of the red/blue plugs and then re-pin them accordingly? goin through and i got most of the stuff im not using but gettin stuck on some of these plugs. also since i have a truck harness and im goin to be mounting it inside the car i think i have to repin the injectors since the truck harness usually mounts up front. any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: My 5.3L 91 Z28 build thread (goin to be slow)
I strip all the PCM pins and build the harness to suit any car. You're going to have a rough time keeping it together because stock location on the truck was front battery tray on the drivers side, Stock 3rd gen is pass rear. Ample length, just have to reorient it all. Drivers coils/injectors and sensors wont have enough length without coiling up the pass side into a big wad
The busted connector with 5 wires is the truck MAF. If you source a replacement, you can actually snap it right on there without any splicing from the connector design

Re: My 5.3L 91 Z28 build thread (goin to be slow)
alright so it looks like i have to take all the pins out and pretty much lengthen/shorten them according to where they need to go. looks like i might need to get an engine stand at least.
on another note decided to sell this trans and just try and get a 4l60e from a f-body.
