5.3 LS turbo street/ strip build

Wanted to go ahead and start a build thread on the car that I have been building for the last few months. This is my first build and my first racecar, lots of time and thought has taken place to get the car where it is now. Before we go to my build I want to highlight a little history of my Dad and his cars which will explain why the build is so though out. Eventually this car will be a x275 car but right now I do not have the money to do that. Enough talking I’m going to start by sharing some pics of Dads cars then on to my build.

Re: 5.3 LS turbo street/ strip build

The first pic is dads current racecar 1985 Camaro, He runs superstock with that car and YES it has a 305. That car runs 9.90s all day at 3200lbs with a 305. The last picture is his 2nd racecar 1969 camaro called the Tin Soldier and this picture was taken after a collector had restored the car in 2006 then it went to auction. Dad sold the 69 in the 80's to build the current 85. Now on to my build

Re: 5.3 LS turbo street/ strip build

the rear end is cleaned up and back under the car. I went with rear coils set up and the rear for now is just a 3.73 new richmond with posi. Later it will get a 9 inch with disk but I just wanted to get the car going for now. Billet ls1 mounts from UMI anyone doing a LS swap I would recommend these mounts. There is the Heart and sole cleaned up, going to clean her up paint her and add arp studs and rod bolts. I have another 5.3 on the way that will be sent to the machine shop while this motor is in the car.

Re: 5.3 LS turbo street/ strip build

The intercooler is mounted, needs a little more tweeking. The second pic is my Nardi Personal steering wheel with quick realease, as you can see the bay is in primer and ready for paint. The 3rd photo you can see the bay a little more (The full shots of the bay with not load) I went with an AJE tubular k member with coilover kit and pinto rack. Also on the engine bay i welded up every hole that was not in use. I also made and welded in my own block off plate where the heater core exc was. After welding eveything was skimmed with a light coat of bondo to insure a fresh look. The bay has turned out awesome so far.

Re: 5.3 LS turbo street/ strip build

Sorry that I am kinda going backwards but im figuring out the photo thing..... This is the Car when I picked it up a few months ago. Took me forever to find one with NO rust at all and the body is super straight. I plan on keeping the car satin black.

Re: 5.3 LS turbo street/ strip build

I bought a kit from from spohn used. But you could really make your own, it's just mounts top and bottom for the coilovers and you need to brace the top mount that the strut would normally bolt too

Has anyone else had this problem with front coilovers? Mine are hitting the spring boot and the previous owner of the k member/ coils said that I will need to trim that back. Has anyone else had this happen and is cutting this back my only solution?
