Swap help please!!
I have a 88' camaro Iroc-z 5.7 tpi that I'm planning on pulling out for a swap. I have access to a 5.3 or 6.0(lq4) and want to either supercharge or turbocharge it. I would like to be somewhere in the 500-700 rwhp. What's a good estimate of what something like that would cost? I've seen people say they have done builds for 2500 but I know that's probably hard to pull off. Can it realistically be done for under 6k?

Thanks for the reply. Man that high huh? They have a plug and ride 580 hp ls3 for under 15k I thought piecing it together it would be cheaper like this build.

For 500 RWHP, figure on:
- $2500 transmission
- $2500 rear end
A rough rule-of-thumb is it takes as many $'s to handle the power as it does to make the power.

Either way you'll need quite a few parts to get it to fit into a third gen such as accessories, oil pan, etc. I've attached a spreadsheet that another member graciously provided with his N/A 6.0 build for a better idea of what you need. Keep in mind that the prices of the parts have probably gone up some since the thread was from the 2012-2013 timeframe I believe.
With all that being said, the swap is totally worth it! I absolutely love driving my car, and it was kinda nice to see every mechanic at the local Chevy dealership flock to a third gen when brought it by there.

Yeah unfortunately the swap is pretty expensive. Fabrication skills can help you save a lot of money, but it still wouldn't be cheap. I would also think that a supercharger would be totally out of the question if you were on any kind of a budget.

Thanks for the reply I do appreciate you guys taking the time to reply. I guess now I know what to expect. And you say the prices will be then went up over time??? I would have thought for sure prices would have went down with more people doing the mods.

Re: Swap help please!!
Yeah just wanted to give you a heads up that the cost of some of the parts has probably increased. It does seem like most of the swap parts from Hawks have stayed consistently the same price though. From my experience prices don't seem to ever really decrease. Fortunately I do see that more and more options are out there now since more people are doing the swap.

Re: Swap help please!!
I do not know if you have the car yet or not but there were a few on craigslist near Akron. One already had a turbo swap, but was pretty rough. Here is another one that is already swapped that could use for the parts. http://youngstown.craigslist.org/cto/4783750902.html

Re: Swap help please!!
Have you looked at blower kits yet? Most are $5-8k on their own. Add a fuel system which isnt cheap, exhaust to support it, chassis mods etc. Top it all off with a swap and $20k isnt an outlandish figure
Mine wasnt far off that and I built everything myself. Axle, mounts, SFCs, front accessories, exhaust, fuel system, harness etc

Re: Swap help please!!
Yea superchargers are far to expensive and every shop I call about a turbo won't even return a phone call. I don't have the skills to pull off a turbo build my self so I'm scraping the idea all together. If I stumble up on a shop that will do it then I will.

Re: Swap help please!!
Find a CTS-V/ZL1 dropout
Cheaper than sourcing everything yourself and are an oil pan away from dropping into a 3rd gen

Re: Swap help please!!
Now I'm not 100% sure on this but I thought you could get the 6.0 and get the heads for relatively cheap for the cts-v blower. Iv seen those on Craigslist going for 700 to 1000. Again I'm no expert on this but when I was looking for parts it was an option

That seems like it could happen for a good price if that can be done.

Re: Swap help please!!
The cheap blowers are all warrantee jobs, so they wont have fuel rails, injectors, a lid or any sensors. Thats nearly a grand right there. Add a FEAD, which is LSA specific and pretty rare used...
Much like piecing together a 5.3 swap, its often as much or less to buy a used LS1 dropout

Re: Swap help please!!
Ahh. I figured there was a catch on this. I got lucky on my 5.3 but even with that I saved roughly 650$ vs going for a ls1. I guess if you were to spread over the parts gradually on the blower it would be ok rather than all at once
