LTX and LSXPutting LT1s, LS1s, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.
The top rear mount bolt I ground down the head of the bolt about a third. Worked nicely. I can take a picture on my days off if you want to see but not much has to come off with this set up.
So it's time just to get it running, so no more making stuff look pretty it just needs to go back on whenever I get a good chance to put it on. The city is against portable garages and cars that aren't operable. I had to take down the garage which is fine as I painted the engine bay. In order to not draw more attention trying to make the car look as legit as possible.
Got the hood on even though it still needs a bit of tweaking.
Also got the a arms, steering linkage, and springs reinstalled. I chopped off an entire coil on both sides and its still sitting high. Hopefully it will settle down more. If not I'll most likely let a shop deal with that when I get it running as i'm really over pain in the *** springs.
Got the fuel line in the front all connected up. Also went with a smaller coolant resevoir due to trying to fix two of the bigger ones as the bolts rusted out on both of them. I had one which I figured would work but didn't sit perfect after molding the new bolt into it, so I picked this up and it seems to fit perfect and tight.
I was able to get a decent amount done on the car but never as much as I want. Ready to have this thing running .
Steering column is back in. Front brake lines reinstalled and re routed. I ordered a new AC condenser for a 1992 camaro and after four weeks for it to show up, the damn fittings didn't fit my system. So scavenging around I was able to get it all going together but its from three different cars. While it was out went ahead and did the 134A conversion fittings.
The radiator I bought for an LS1 did not come with a steam tube connection. But it is here and new so in it went with the dual fans. I ended up finding the steam tube radiator part from jagsthatrun. So that problem is solved. Will most likely go back to a third gen radiator at some point, but now is not the time. The heater core hoses have also been put on.
Hawks cold air intake installed, and I think it looks rather nice. Also got the hood latch hooked back up and in working order. My drivers side exterior door handle was broke, second attempt but it finally works again. The torque arm was also installed to the trans crossmember.
Things on the to do list, get the throttle cable, shifter, and shifter cable installed. Working the the engine harness now, hopefully won't be too big of a pain. Need to finish fuel lines and install a better pump. Also need to located a computer with a tune on it.
It has been a little bit since I posted. Been trying to get the car finished up enough to make it enjoyable.
Got my computer and harness installed, but then the car wouldn't start. I tried replacing a few different sensors. Then I took it to the one tuning shop in my town. They kept it for five weeks and pretty much refused to work on it. So after getting it back home I ordered HP tuners. VATS was not turned off on the computer. Once I did that the car fired right up. However it was not running real well. I only work a mile away from home so I would drive it to work. It would do fine in the morning but not in the afternoon. I went ahead and replaced more sensors. It seems the oxygen sensors were the culprit. I just replaced them last week and it won't die on me in closed loop. No clue on how well it will drive yet as it goes in for brakes and alignment today so I can take it on more than just backroads.
I need to take some pictures of the things I have done over the past few months, but getting it drivable is number one priority before summer ends. I will take some pictures on my downtime over the next few days and post them up though.
Looking good, glad to hear that the Hawkes a/c set up is good. That and cruise are the big 2 things I didn't get working when I was doing my swap, years later, still not functional. My advice, get it all sorted out before it's 'finished', it's hard to take it back off the road to do major work!
Well after a year of struggling with getting it to work the car is now drivable. The car could idle forever and be fine. After driving for 15 minutes it would stall and bog. I even trailered it and took it down to a tuning shop in Denver with no success. Though they did give it more attention than my local tuning shop.
So I said screw it and bought the fitech ultimate ls system. Car drives wonderfully now. I just need it to quit snowing so I can start driving it every day. No clue what was causing my problem with the gm setup was.
