Main bearing clearances!!

Hey guys.

I need some serious help.

Attempting to start my engine build now and I'm having a really hard time with the clearances.

Stock 4.8 crank ground 0.010/0.010.
Factory clearance is: 0.0008 - 0.00250

I've tried 2 different sets of bearings now.

King 0.010 - measurement of 0.003
King 0.020 - measurement of just under .001

When I tried the second set, seating the crank had a noticeable resistance. First set had a barely any.

I don't currently have a dial bore gauge to do a complete measurement, and every other engine I've done successfully using the plastigage.

I'm thinking the .010 set was possibly misboxed, but I really can't justify spending yet another $90 on a set that I have to wait to come in without at least consulting the engine guru's here. Technically, with the .020 bearings, it falls on the far end of the spec, but that's still a little too tight for my tastes, and this engine will be spinning to high RPM. I've read about people mixing one size with another to get the clearance they want, but I'm not very familiar with that practice.

I was hoping to get the engine done this weekend, so please input!

Re: Main bearing clearances!!

Okay, after doing even more reading, and finally getting a response from a friend of mine who has some knowledge, I think I'm going to be okay with the wider clearance. Especially since it will be a TT motor early next year and I'll be running the Melling HPHV pump immediately.
