LS1 fuel tank question.

So I will be doing a LS1 swap here very soon. And I'm getting everything that I can think of bought and ready so once I start it's all there. So my question is. Is a 99 V6 fuel tank the same as the LS1 tanks? I know the pumps are different but how about the actual tanks? I have read pages and pages and no one ever answers that questions they just guess.

They are the same part number through GM.

Re: LS1 fuel tank question.

Ok so a few questions I hope you guys know. I'm having a harness made by pocket. And I've done a 4th gen dash so I'm running a 4th gen gauge cluster is there a way I can wire up the perge valve and tank preasure? That way my gas tank is working the way it's suppose to

Re: LS1 fuel tank question.

You hook up the purge and tank pressure wires to the proper ECM wires/pins.

That's it? I thought there was EGR stuff involved. That's easy enough.

Re: LS1 fuel tank question.

EGR is in the engine harness. The engine-mounted purge solenoid is also in the engine harness.

It's been a few years, and I didn't hook it all up when I used a 4th gen LS1 tank, so I don't recall what all goes to the tank other than the pump power, fuel level signal, and tank pressure signal. Seems like there is something else, but I'm not sure about that.

Re: LS1 fuel tank question.

I know a 2001-2 didn't have EGR so would it just be the purge solenoid up at the engine ? The rest would be at the tank already

You didn't say what year LS1 you were talking about. And you brought up EGR, thinking it related to the purge system. But, you are correct, '01-'02 did not have EGR (and also had the better LS6 intake manifold).

The purge solenoid on the engine has the wiring built into the engine harness, and goes to the PCM. No rewiring required there. You will need whatever connections that go to the fuel tank, as those are not part of the engine harness (as I recall - should be in a connector that goes to the chassis harness).

That's what I was thinking but I had a guy on a other site arguing that you also needed to use the 4th gen BCM and I didn't think that was right.
