Looking good bud. I like your fender lip idea... I like my fat fenders more but the simplicity of your idea is great! And looks good

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
ground out all the jams, the doors, fenders...everything. Working on the hood and bumpers and GFX parts. I'm glad it's almost over because I've had it with sanding for a while. Body is in epoxy filler, will get sanded down, new epoxy applied, some thicker filler for sanding in a different color, light gray primer coat and then color. Spies Hecker paint in original 81u 8774GM red.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
yeah, not a fun job that's for sure
Here's the underside of the hood. Paint came off with just paint thinner, same for the wheel well coating overspray that was there from the factory. Entire hood will get a repain but with the nice e coat there I figured why sand it down. Just give it a light key and be done with it

Tell me as much as you can about those wheels please!
I mentioned you in my build thread too:

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
After the paint cures a little more for a couple of days assembly will start. I'll probably hang the doors at the paint shop and do the rest in my shop/. Still need to black out the headlight buckers...then it's all done. IT'll be good to finally have it back together and the paint not looking like an eyesore.
The rear wheel tubs need a little more trimming and reshaping. I will remove the old stone chip stuff and redo it (there's overspray on it and that's why it ddin;t matter to me that there was overspray) I'll probably have to weld a couple of sections because I pretty much reached the stretching limit of the metal I reworked. The rear tires need to tuck just a little more. I do not want to minitub the car. I still have the LS1 / T56 swap to do in my gray so I can daily drive that one again. (it's more fun to drive than the 93 Z28 I drive as a daily now)

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Now to get some gold z28 badges and iroc decals. Anyone have a good lead as to quality oem looking? I kniw phoenux graphics has the right decals. I may go custom in the 5.7 tuned port injection decals. It needs some black and gold to compliment the wheels.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Wow nice job, read a lot of this thread but I did not see you mention the width and offset of those rims, I am assuming they are different front and rear, they are killer and suit this build perfectly.
Also noticed while assembling the rear bumper, spoiler and such to the body you were using a foam protector at the screw attachment points, is this just a standard high density foam with sticky on one side or something special for automotive use only, I am kinda new to this type of work, got a 1982 Z28 that I am working on, have it stripped to the shell and your thread has been a great help to me, thanks for sharing.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Wheels are 17x12 and 17x10.
The foam is thin rubber stuff I got fron a local gasket maker. I have sheets in various thicknesses and this works a lot better than the factory seal stuff.
It is automotuve quality stuff.

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
I'm going to have to remove the spoiler. It's nowhere near smooth enough so has to be redone.
Still waitong on my logos. First set got sent back to OZ for unknown reasons. Ordered from hawks but that just shipped yesterday....delays...delays. Looks like I won't be ready in time to win Feb COTM LOL

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Right now I'm designing some custom decals for the car. I was hoping to get a hold of the gradient IROC-Z in the proper script but sadly nnot (yet). Car needs the decals to strengthen the 80s theme (80s drivetrain, 80s brakes, 80s wheels, 80s audio although the RM610E blew something and is onl;y making squeeling noises. Will install a 710 and fix the 610E)

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
Well crap. Headliner is in but my rm610e cockpit radio started acting up. I had it fixed and upgraded but something is not right. Pops ceackles and beeps. Hardly tunes a station now. Dang

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
I got the doors and such all together, no rattles, the power locks work flawlessly now.
Door panels and interior a little dirty from dust and swirl marks from a quick wipe
I need some covers to plug the window crank holes. I can not seem to find any. My buddy has some on his 82 trans am (with a bird) ...if only I could find some for a camaro
The soffseal weatherstrip is damn near perfect, it took a little effort to get it just right but the door closes super easy...no effort at all.
Got a rear glass with no scratches or gouges and most importantly,... no rear defogger. I hate how they never work and the copper lines are always delaminated. Also, this way my auto dimmer mirror should work a little better
and .. I was going to lower it a little more... but I think I'll leave it as is. Speed bump scare already

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
I have a gold black decal kit...complete. I will use the gold iric z door decals. I also have nos 5.7 tuned port injection decals however I will probably use my custom decals. What should I do with the stripes. The clean look is really growing on me... I'm reluctant to put on the stripes
Here are some of the decals I made. Will not use all of them. 1 mpe camaro will go on the rear wing and the 5.7 short ram on the rockers

Re: Pulling apart my 87 IROC
I swapped the edge trimming from my old scratched rear window to my new one without defrost. IT had bent ends. It's not even that bad a job to replace these, jsut takes a little finessing.
Made sure I sealed up the rear lid real good as not to have water leaks. This is both caulking rope and windshield adhesive. I then installed the lid and tightened to bolts a little, moved the lid into the perfect location lined out with the spoiler and then bolted it down. It's curing now with no pull down and no struts so it should remain perfectly in place.
damn my painted ff-ed up here,, he forgot to smooth this side and it shows.

My weatherstripping is fighting me. Very jealous of how easily your doors close. We have the same seats too.
