Re: guess i could say its my build thread
thats weird, i think the number of o2s has to do with if it was sent to a high emissions state, my yukon has 4 being a NY emissions truck. that could have something do with not getting the code. most would get the code from gutted cats too.
as far as the pressure mine was cutting out at higher throttle than like a quarter and the pressure was like 53. i didnt even think it would start in the 40s. after new delphi fuel stuff, everything its low 60s, new felpro gaskets and that. you can feel the difference in power when it right.

mine feels more powerful than ever (i checked my fp with another different gauge that isn't the autozone rental, its 63at idle and around 65 under load guess that gauge was off) i can cruise at 80 now at 1/4 throttle. around 1200 rpms. looks like i'm never getting rid of my truck now. i have plans for it.

its got alot of getup and go for an old truck with a 1/4 million miles on it. but it still shuts the fuel off at 105mph so i don't know lol. i can tell you its gonna for sure have a tune on it in the future.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
dont think i would mess with the limiter if it was mine. i would never have it going that fast. if someone takes or borrows it then its still there. truck tires arent really meant to handle that and its got so many miles you dont need to tempt fate. if i was tuning it i would just get rid of the TM and the wot retard

ugghh, thats how it goes sometimes. when they get rusty you sneeze on the line and it leaks. then you might as well replace the whole lot because you know they are all thin and done.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
apparently its an incredibly common thing with chevy/gmc trucks from 99-2015 so thats bad/good because hey! this kit is a thing that exists! and i bought it! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stainless-Steel-Brake-Line-Kit-Fits-Chevy-GMC-Truck-Silverado-Sierra-02-99/141730113687?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29979%26meid%3D7b48c7b4b8db4a06ac965b18e6fab410%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D131566176482
seriously though apparently (or from what i've read on gm truck forumns) its INCREDIBLY common for the 4 main lines going to the abs modulator to all rust out incredibly quickly. heres hoping stainless lasts forever

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
i have heard alot of bad about trying to fit the prebent lines, i have never been able to fit it the way it was. its almost always way cheaper to buy a couple spools of brake line some fittings and adapters. even if you have to buy the flare tool, i got enough to do the yukon for like 30-40 bucks and you can run it however you want. then i put some paint on them for rust.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
i like the idea of stainless lines more. only ever wanna have to do this once. i already re did the fuel lines with NiCopp and that wasn't cheap at all lol. i'd want to do the trans lines next but i think they're aluminum so i'm not worried about them rusting haha. even if these won't fit quite like factory i do have a bender and a flaring tool and a few cutters so if i have to i can remake or reshape some of the lines to make it all go back together. just tired of what was supposed to be the reliable vehicle nickle and diming me. good news today i got the parts i needed to fix the camaro again (should've done it three weeks ago right after it happened)

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
its not new, cant expect it to not need stuff. seems to go in waves for me, for the first year or something i have a older vehicle, replacing stuff that goes, hoses lines gaskets shocks steering stuff, then it slows down seems like. gms are fairly cheap for parts though still not worth a new truck payment. i thought i remember reading some having to jack up the cab to do the pre bent lines on the pickups

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
****in hell. opened up the garage to finally get back to thundergutts today. ground is covered in transmission fluid. enough that its red and not just oily. and my tires are all flat. use my mini compressor and get the car pushed out. got my tps rewired (fire damage) 02 sensor plug rewired (fire damage) and the capacitor in the distributor replaced (fire damage) push the car out. jack it up and look and i can't find anywhere where the trans could be leaking. i loosen a bit then re torque the trans pan bolts. make sure the dipstick and TV cable are both seated properly, my TC isn't leaking. its not the front or rear seals. everything is all good. idk what gives. can a transmission (specifically a 4l60) just push fluid out from sitting for two-three weeks? anyways. the car started. although now the gas pedal won't move. idk if my TV cable got partially melted or something else is wrong but it won't move at all. unhook it and the throttle linkage moves freely again but the car isn't drivable. so now its sitting in the garage again.
list of things i need for it now
pcv valve.
new carb and vacuum advance dist
new tv cable
remove harness and ecm
****it guys you're right i'll just do it the easy way. make it full on racecar mode for the sake of simplicity
anyone wanna help me do a full breakdown of the easiest and simpleist way to cleanup/delete things and still have things like power steering power brakes? everything else i can live without. the AC was gone long ago.
i'm so sick of antiquated GM systems. thinking holley from work (320)
msd vacuum HEI dist (120)
do some new plugs/wires (60)
new air cleaner, paint my VCs (free-ish)
probably still gonna go with a rubber fuel line. or just buy the $30 pushlock style one from work. i think mr gasket makes it.
i'm rambling now but thats probably because i've been in the blazing ohio sun for 7 and a half hours ****ing with this damn car.

on the recommendations of our own zach oswald i think i'll be staying Qjet but going with an older non CC q jet. still ditching the ECM, harness though. now i'm off to find a way to control TCC lockup.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
to go to the older qjet shouldnt be that hard, on a 84 you should be able to use the original tank pump, lines and mechanical pump on the engine.
if your going to modify it its easier to just have the holley, thats why i got mine. you can tune it easier if you are modifying it all the time. you will have to have the dual feed and hook it to the line coming from the mechanical pump
power brakes, just get hooked up to a vacuum port, nothing different about the power steering.
its a 700r4, and all that really requires is a switch wired to the right pins of the plug on the trans, there is a article on this site about it
if the engine is not running it had to be down from the level it normally sits, pump would have to be going for it to be something higher. you didnt have the driveshaft out did you?

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
being an 84 i think it had a mechanical speedo, that should still work, my volt and fuel gauges continued working fine. the oil and temp didnt though, i got one of those 3 gauge deals and hooked the senders where the stock ones were.

never removed the drive shaft, no. is there an easier (cheaper) way to have a stock functioning TCC lockup than the almost $200 b&m kit? this car is somewhat a daily driver.

all you need is the 12v on pin a, the rest is to sort of automate the release if you hit the brakes or get into it. if you just control it yourself it will work fine

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
well no car (or truck) news to report. some good news though. i scored a full stainless brakeline kit for the truck on rockauto for.................
$62 so sometime this weekend or next week i'll have a running truck with brake lines i'll never have to worry about again lol.
also, i took my asvab for the air force today. i scored a 85 overall with a 98 in mechanical. i checked all my scores against the "job" website and theres nothing i can't do except work with nuclear missiles and i wouldn't want to anyway. haha. heres hoping i can get my waiver and really enlist. wish me luck guys

no, they're pretty much a lost cause. i really need to find my camera and get some pictures of these front calipers and hoses. they honestly need done anyway. pretty sure they're original but i have no idea why they'd of been painted black at one point. noone paints calipers black

some paint them just to keep the rust down. they have black high temp paint. you really dont need stainless hoses anyway, i just paint what i dont want rusting, the rubber dont rust.

also forgot to mention, did a bit of fiddling with the camaro today. it doesn't even want to idle. so i threw on a new cap and rotor. still doesn't want to idle. things are all capped or hooked up. nothing is leaking. but it acts like its got a big *** vacuum leak

see how that grant wheel has the stock horn button/pad? how do you do that?

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
timing should be the same as factory. right now its still the 305 with the hei and ccqjet. its just a bit darker than before after the fire. anything that got burned or melted got replaced. its exactly the same as it was the day i swapped the intake and it ran really well. but now it just won't idle. if you can keep giving it gas it runs great. it drives fine it just dies whenever you let off the gas.
positive note!!! truck is fixed. completely new brake system!!!! my temp tag expired and it'll be teusday before i can get plates on it because i have to meet my recruiter monday. wonderful wish me luck not getting pulled over guys.

the 79 350 is on a stand. contemplating just selling it off (rebuilding is hard work and i am so sick of doing hard work to cars that are always ungrateful) and i might just save up some base pay for the 450 hp year one crate engine and be done with it.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
i would just use the 350 you have, get a mildish cam, and put your 305 heads on it, that would be a decent street setup, and a ton better than the 305. and fairly cheap compared to a crate engine. you got a parts hookup should be pretty reasonable, put new gaskets in it and run it. assembling an engine is not that hard. have to get a aftermarket hei and carb, would get a holley dp they are siple and infinitely tuneable.
so you got your stock carb and hei and three quarters or the crap that run it burnt up and or removed and wonder why it wont run right, lol. im surprised it runs at all.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
only thing burnt was vacuum hoses. they've been replaced. only thing removed is egr, air, smog equipment. and as i said before. it ran fine this way just prior to getting parked. idk what i'll end up doing, all the engines i have are on cl right now for sale. (so is the car actually) and some other things. i need an empty garage so i can just push this thing inside and start doing something to it. its little issues added up over the last few years.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
like i said before you cant tune a half computer controlled engine, and finding faults is too aggravating to bother with. it leads to the frustration you have now. i have been there. have to decide one direction and stick to it. cheap with what you got, or putting a different engine in. but working with the stock carb and ign is pointless

so you are not going to drive it till you save up like 4 or 5 k, seems pointless when you can make it run decent for 4-5 hundred, or maybe a hundred if you get some junkyard stuff and rebuild it

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
thats the problem though. there really aren't any junkyards here. seriously. and the only one i know of (u pull it in west alexander Pennsylvania) only has late 80s early 90s crap economy cars and beige mobile sedans. pretty much nothing there even has a carb or distributor. i have an early 70s qjet in my garage and could get a brand new vac advance dist for $50 on ebay. but right now I'm trying to sell some projects and make some money. yeah i could fix it and keep driving it but its still got a cracked windshield. the quarter is still starting to rust. the struts all still need replaced (cheap *** monroes) it still needs a headliner. it still needs a hood. its still got some wiring issues. its still gonna need brakes soon. its still not gonna have working power steering. so rather than drive it right now because i can cheaply its in the garage and its waiting till the mrs and i have time to work on it. i have a fairly reliable truck to drive now (even though weirdly the coolant temp sens kept bugging out and shutting the truck off, so i just unplugged it) so i'm not in a mad dash to make the camaro barely drivable for the 100th time because i don't have anything else and need to get to work on the next day. its kind of nice actually

going to run in open loop that way and suck the gas, not real good for your cats either.
trucks with that many miles always break, would be nice to have an option. i dont see anything there that would stop me from driving it. you already have a quad the rebuild kits are cheap as heck and the cheap ebay dist would be fine to get it going

Re: guess i could say its my build thread
well i feel like i should update this. i sold my car. after the fire (which was completely my fault) i was just so fed up with it and winter was coming and i only have about 30 days until i relocate to a naval base in san diego anyway so when a friend made me an offer i couldn't refuse i took it. $3000 for a non running l69 car that needs a quarter and paint isn't bad. another $500 for two half rebuilt engines (350 and a 5.3 i had) isn't bad to me either. so now i have an open garage a running truck and alot of for once clean tools all packed away in my empty garage. atleast until i have them shipped to me in san diego when i inevitably spend most of my monthly pay on some pre 1976 heap of **** to get by emissions testing in smog **** california. i'll probably start a thread here for whatever i end up with if the mods allow it.

Sounds like you made a little money on it and hopefully it will be restored to its original glory. I still have pics of it on my pc. lol
