Re: 1985 Iroc Complete build
Ordered this today http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...40005/10002/-1
along with a distributor hold down and wires.
Now I'm trying to choose headers.
I'm just looking for some cheap ones that will bolt up to the stock y pipe.
Anyone have any opinions between
http://www.jegs.com/i/Flowtech/387/11116/10002/-1
and
http://www.jegs.com/i/Hooker+Headers/520/2460/10002/-1

I can't be 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure that I had both of those headers years ago, first on my '85 TA and then on my '91 RS, and while they fit, they are nowhere close to being able to use the stock y-pipe. I also used a set of Summit headers, and also couldn't get the y-pipe to come anywhere close to fitting. I believe that I eventually got a set of Hedman's.... I think this one http://www.summitracing.com/dom/part...ro?prefilter=1 with this y-pipe http://www.summitracing.com/dom/part...t/model/camaro
I also stuck a high flow Magnaflow 3 inch cat on there. Worked pretty good.

Looks like the jeg distributor is for a non computer controlled setup...
ill be refunding it and buying this distributor
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pnx-d1021
or maybe ill just buy a ignition module and reuse the facory distributor.

Re: 1985 Iroc Complete build
I noticed your dash pad is in great shape ,did you buy it or did it come with the car ,I havent found any at the yards that were saveable...and the repos are super expensive...I might have to tear down the whole dash to replace a few pices that are cracked, how much of a PITA was that ???? I've got the whole interior out except the dash ,not looking forward to removing it....any tips

Yea my dash was just luckily in good shape. The only advise i have is dont tear apart the dash if you dont have to.

That's pretty cool that you can get your lady in the garage with you, I was never able to get a girlfriend or my ex-wife to help me out. The lettering and plenum turned out pretty good.

Re: 1985 Iroc Complete build
I went to crank the engine for the first time today but i couldnt get the any fuel flowing. I have a brand new pump, filter, and sending unit. I tested the fuel pump connector under the car for power and it had constant power on one wire and nothing on the other two. should one of the other two wires have power while cranking?

Ok ive been searching and will be continuing my search but i do understand now only one wire should have power which it does but my fuel pump relay does not have any power going to it.

Alright i now have the fuel pump working i just need to find out why im not getting spark. I have power to the ignition module but nothing coming out. So it should either be the module or pick up coil.

Re: 1985 Iroc Complete build
Fixed the connection issue but i cannot get power out of the module. I have tested the module and it tested ok. I'm sure the problem is the pickup coil but the distributor it self looks like it could use some help.
Ive decided im just going to send my distributor in for a professional rebuild. The rebuild will cost as much as a new distributor but i would rather wait then buy a new Chinese pos. I work at a parts store like stated in the past and i know for a fact that they never hold up like factory gm parts.
I will be sending my distributor to Ignition Engineering in California.
http://www.distributorcurvingandrebu...ebuilding.html
I may have to be patient but this way i get to help a small business and keep my better built factory part.
Like usual i will write my vendor review on them after all is said and done.

Re: 1985 Iroc Complete build
lately I've ran in to multiple issues with my 88 iroc but reading all that you had to do to yours gives me new hope. How is your cooling fan hooked up? And how hard was it to fully gut the interior? The farthest I've gotten was removing the front seat, door panels, and the dash pad but i had to put them all back together so i could drive it to/from my school when needed.

-Gutting the interior is really easy, putting it back together is a little more tricky lol
I took apart my interior because the previous owner hacked up the interior harness to add an alarm system, leds, and terrible speakers. Plus the drivers side window had been down for three years of rain and the trunk section was completely filled with water... I still dont know how this iroc didnt rust at all.
What im trying to say is i had a lot of reasons to gut the interior and wouldnt recommend it unless you had a lot to do. ie heater core, speakers, carpet, etc.
