1984 F41 LG4 sports coupe

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share some pics of my new purchase. I picked this up on Easter Good Friday, for a steal of $5000.00. It has 154000km (96000mi), the LG4 305, and 700R4. The car has been in storage for the past 2 years, with maybe only 15 minutes of run time in that time. It is mostly original, with the exception of a few add-ons like the corvette rims, and the aftermarket stereo. After decoding the RPOs, I discovered this car was a original radio delete car, and ran 14" steel wheels. It is a F41 car with the badging on the rear bumper. The paint is pretty clean, although the hood will need to be painted. It needs a detail job to bring back the shine. The underside is nearly as clean as the day it was built. Never winter driven, and garage kept. The original owner bought it new in 1984, and owned it until 1998, when he sold it to a friend (the lady I bought it from) so the car's history is well known and makes me the 3rd owner. It needs some TLC mostly from sitting, such as new tires, weather stripping, tune up etc. The exhaust was replaced with a GM muffler, but whoever installed it has the tail pipes hanging WAY too low. I will modify this car lightly with a complete founders performance rear suspension setup, and a Dynomax cat back exhaust which I will be removing from my '86. Some mild performance mods might be added to the little 305 to spice it up a bit, but eventually a real performance mill will be built.

Re: 1984 F41 LG4 sports coupe

A couple more pics. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. I think it is about as close to a barn find I'll ever get. I'm not a fan of the rims, and will swap over my Z28 rims which are black, so it should look quite nice. The radio antenna is an aftermarket piece that is pretty ugly, so when the hood gets painted, I may have them fill the antenna hole, and I'll install a hidden one. Can anyone suggest a good detailing procedure/products for bringing back the paint? I was thinking a good wash, claybar treatment and a thorough wax will be enough.

Nice find! Unmolested SCs are getting very rare.

Give the car a good wash with Dawn dishwashing soap, go over it wit a clay bar and then your choice of polish, ( I like the Megs 105/205 system) and then your favorite wax or sealer.

Are these cars expensive where you're at?

Re: 1984 F41 LG4 sports coupe

No more expensive than anywhere else. 3rd gens are going for $300 to $25000 around here depending on condition. This was a steal because rust free, all original cars are not easy to come by, this is easily a $8000 car. It is as clean as the day it was made, and now after a tune up, runs like a new car. Worth every cent. I looked at other cars, but none came even close to being this clean, and I liked the fact that it was a F41 car.

What I was looking for was a super solid, unmolested car for a platform for some mild mods. I won't butcher this car, it will built tastefully. Plans for it at this moment, although that may change, is swap in a carbureted 5.3l LS engine, exhaust, suspension and handling improvements and maybe a set of aftermarket wheels. Stock interior, stock body, clean up the paint, and she's done. I have a 5.3 long block from an '08 chevy truck that will likely be the basis of the build.

Re: 1984 F41 LG4 sports coupe

I thought I'd post a couple of updated pics of my new ride. I have cleaned up the paint some with a good wash with dish detergent, a clay bar treatment, and a wax. It really brought the paint back, but it could still use a full buff and polish. The hood will be repainted in the fall. I was quoted $250 for doing just the hood, or $850 to repair a dent in the pass door, paint the hood and a complete buff of the rest.

Re: 1984 F41 LG4 sports coupe

Thanks. I got my new center caps for the Z28 wheels from Hawks thirdgen the other day. They make a big difference to clean up the look of the car. I have been working on a 5.3l to swap in, which I've been posting about in the LS section. Work on it has come to a halt for a little bit due to my wife being sick and not working for a while. Things will be getting back on track shortly. In the meantime I've swapped over my founders rear suspension and Dynomax exhaust from my '86.

Re: 1984 F41 LG4 sports coupe

So it's been a while since posting last, and to be honest not much has happened. My wife is still sick and not working so I've been too busy looking after her and my daughter. The car has been tucked in tight in the garage for the past year. I stripped down my old '86 of all useful parts and sent the empty shell to the crushers. I also sold off all my LS swap stuff and put an engine swap on hold until my wife returns to work. I started last night on removing the 3.08 rear diff to swap in the '86's 3.42 posi diff. I will be replacing the front control arm bushings with some Energy Suspension bushings and try cutting the coils all around to give it a better stance. My hopes are to have the car back on the road this spring.

Some pics of what I have done. The '86 stripped, and waiting for pickup.
The '84 as she sits now.
Getting things going finally.
