Car: 1984 F41 Camaro
Engine: LC1 V6 2.8L
Transmission: 4 Speed Auto
Axle/Gears: 3.23
My First Car

I got my first car a few months ago, its a white 1984 F41 Camaro with a 2.1L V6 and a 3 speed auto tranny, its in pretty good shape with minimal rust(a little rust at the bottom of doors and drive side rear 1/4 panel but body shop should have that taken care of soon). I bought it from a guy off of craigslist for a steal, it has 68k miles on it and is a running driving car, so far I've put on a rear spoiler, replaces all 4 headlights, cleaned the interior and exterior very well, replaced windshield wipers, plasti-dipped the Camaro side emblem black, I got a headliner shell and am currently having those and my sail panels and sun visors reupholstered, I put one of those trunk shade things in it and also one of those trunk lock boxes, and I just got a complete weather strip kit, and a few other odds and ends such as a new radio and speakers, and some of those plastic screws that hold the read panel in the trunk to the rear panel, new tag lights and lenses, exhaust tip(and soon a cherry bomb pro muffler), etc.

I'm hoping to get a pair of those 16x8 and 16x7 chrome IROC wheel's for it and a 4th gen trans am hood for a 3rd gen soon, after that I'm considering a complete repaint of the original color(white)

As this is my first car she is no speed demon, but I have a lot of fun with her(even though I've only driven her once), I'm hoping to keep this car forever, but a lot of people tell me that I probably wont because forever is a long time, for now she is going to be my daily driver, but I hope to get another vehicle and park my F41 and keep her as a project, however, I am going to keep this car mostly stock under the hood because a lot of people said that she is a very rare find and although she isn't worth anymore than others, a 1984 F41 Camaro with a LC1 V6 and a 3speed auto tranny isn't very common.

Congrats! Nice first car.
As for keeping forever, that's not so far fetched. Read some of the threads here of people searching for that car after they sold it!

Thanks dude, I'm hoping to get a truck or bronco or suburban or something for a daily driver in a few years and I will park my 84' because I don't want to sell her, and I don't want to run her to death and blow up the motor, I want to keep her clean and have a nice car for fun(even though she is only a v6, I've wanted a third gen for a long time, she means more than any other car would have meant.

Re: My First Car

It looks to be in really good shape. If you get the desire to update your drive train, don't worry about it being "rare". It's your car and if it's worth more to you with different motor/trans than by all means do it.

Re: My First Car

You have started off nice. You found a good driving car without major problems. Enjoy and upgrade it as you like and need. The real factor is doe's it make you smile when you look at or drive it. I think we know the answer to that.
Drive it and enjoy. Don't jump into a major job on it unless you have the time and money to see it through. So many people start fiddling around and the car sits partially disassembled for months or years and or gets sold to someone else as a project. If its in driving condition, drive it and have fun.
Keep fixing the things that go bad, and it will run for years. I've already gone through a 92 Camaro RS that reached 300K miles.

Thank you, the car means a lot to me, it was a gift from my mom so i appreciate it quite a bit, I'm hoping to leave it stock under the hood, if anything i might put a z28 rear end in it and maybe some little tweaks, nothing major, thanks for the advice guys

thank you very much, i love this car and im going to do little things, i'd hate to see this car sit for any amount of time, the only reason it will be sitting for more than a week is maybe when its at the body shop getting repainted, but as far as i'm concerned, as long as i have gas in the tank, she will be driven alot

Re: My First Car

My '86 has an '82-'84 nose on it, which I never liked, but as I get sick of seeing way too many of all the other noses, it's growing on me. I say don't worry about changing how yours looks, focus on how it drives. Your 14" wheels are part of the look, but these cars are about enjoying fun handling that comes from their potential cornering ability. Forget 16x7 IROC wheels, there's no such thing, and no reason to run 7s on the front anyway.
Having a rare engine / trans means nothing if it isn't the highest-performance version, and a museum car. Get a 350, and a 700R-4 or a T5, save your originals if you wish, but make the car truly fun to drive.
