Ressurecting an 8 year-old thread

Im starting this thread as a continuation of a thread my dad started 8 years ago. The car has since been passed on to me, and a considerable amount of work has been done to it. Nothing super impressive- I've just been trying to make the car reliable- but hopefully someone enjoys it

Here is a link to the original thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/4...-progress.html

I'll try to fill the next few posts with the undocumented progress over the last few years.

Looking forward to the updates.
I always wonder what happens to a car when threads just stop being updated.

The biggest change I've made is swapping the transmission from auto to manual. The whole swap costed me $600 using mostly 4th gen parts

Edit: I'm trying to do this on my phone and can't figure out how to add pictures. They'll be here soon.

New transmission parts

Old transmission parts

When I was putting it together, I saw someone online say the gen 4 shifter boot works on our cars. It works, but it fits badly.

I think the carpet was the next thing I replaced. The interior has really seen the most improvent since I got the car.

This is when we first got the car (that's me at age 10) this is the best before pic of the interior.

Im still on the lookout for some nice seats.

Re: Ressurecting an 8 year-old thread

the belt that turns the casset player snapped, and I replaced it with an ill-fitting rubber band that lasted me four months. Does anyone know of a good source for this belt?

Re: Ressurecting an 8 year-old thread

Just recently, I cracked my lower intake putting in the coolant temp sensor. So I took the opportunity to paint my engine and replace everything I could find problems with.

I found a great tool from oreilly's that i used to remove the pushrods without adjusting my rockers

Whoops. I just realized i never took a picture of the final product. I'll post more tomorrow

Looks nice in there.

I like the black upper intake. The burnt connectors, not so much.

Re: Ressurecting an 8 year-old thread

So Im having a new problem: intermediate no start and check engine light. Not at the same time, but both are very strange. Every once in a while the car won't crank, but if I let it sit for a while it'll start fine.

The check engine light comes on and off. It usually turns on when I hold higher rpms (nearly always when getting on the freeway), then resets when I turn off the car. When I checked, I had a code 15, 24, 32, 34, 42, and 44. Since I doubt all of these things would suddenly go wrong at the same time, is there any component all of these share? Perhaps the burnt connectors I found?

Re: Ressurecting an 8 year-old thread

15- coolant sensor circuit, 24- Vss circuit
32- baro sensor circuit, 34- Vacuum sensor circuit
42- Bypass/Est problem ,44- lean exh
You may have some wires disconnected somewhere, 42 may be why it wont start sometimes.
Im not farmiliar with the v6 set-up.So I cant say what/where these wires/connectors may be.
