Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
Funny you say that because today I more or less decided I would go with those because they are available in 19" and I can get them here instead of having to ship them. I like them better also, even if they are not as concave as the others

What about about a nice "shaker" hood like the 6.6, just a thought

IMO I always thought that hood fit the early birds/formulas/91-92 birds best, cowls look best with the 85-90 birds since they are more square.

Yeah not feeling those wheels either
I like the shaker hood idea would be easy to make your own to fit the whole theme your going for and flow with the lines
Or factory options like

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
Hence why I stated to make a custom one to fit the lines and flow of car !
It would be easy it basically a air filter cover
And I don't like the imsa hood or the one with the plexiglass bit kinda never understood the concept behind that but prob wanted to emulate what exotic cars do with mid engine

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
Sick of messing with EFI for a while. I want this to run clean and simple. And I have always wanted a good excuse to try out one of those SV1 carbs. I put EFI on my truck and am still tinkering with the efi on the 87 camaro. It always becomes so much more of a wiring cluster-f than I anticipated.
If the carb sucks I can always drill the manifold for injectors and run a throttle body on it.
No further updates. Decided not to use the C6Z06 calipers. I now have some 1LE/CTSV style Brembos and am going to get some discs for those soon.
The engine is still not ready. Slowly sourcing parts but still don't have an oil pan to clear a 4.5 stroke.. oops

Twin_Turbo I know this thread is old but what make are those 7 spoked black alloys? I wouldn't want them that big but is it possible this wheel style is available for a 3rd gen? Thanks

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
Started working on the wiring. Decided to do a little pruning in the existing wiring harness and delete everything. I. won't need. Kept several ground, 12v and ign switched leafs so I can use those for whatever may be installed. That should keep wiring to a minimum
What I started with
Thinned out.
Installed. I prefer to use iem wiring relays and fuse holders

Did some interior work. Took me a long time sourcing usable parts to replace the worn stuff that was in there. I did a lot if cleaning to get this stuff presentable again. Also threw the recaros in there to see what it will look like. Only a few fasteners left

Jeff rewired the car to integrate later electronics but some things are not working ir not working right. Interior lights didn't work. Had to repair the dimmer switch and rewire the courtesy lights as some of the white switched grounds were not connected as was a 12v bat feed because the connectors don't match. Also fixed the seat belt warning system and chime as wel as the key warning chime. Still have to do the indicator switch. There's some kind of dhort in there for the for t indicator/turn bulb caysing the dadh indicator to light up and ghe wrong fillament on the bulb gets power (both sides 6v)
My biggest gripe was the divorced brake and cornering lights. I wanted it all to flash and illuminate so I rewired it so the brake switch feeds into the indicator switch and wured everything to the now combined braje/indixator signal. All it took was rewiring the rear harness and adding a (white) wire to the steering column connector to match up to the white wire off the indicator switch. This white is the brake signal to indicator switch feed. The original one is light bluw and bypasses the indicator switch. I retained it in case I want a high mounted stop light as it needs just a brake signal obviously.
Now everything works as I wanted it to

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
Decided to mock up my LSX to see what I would need and what to change. Decided I would drill a billet fuel pump blockoff and use a vortech oil nozzle for a supercharger to lube the distributor instead of drilling a hole in the cam plate. The mast pan seems to clear just fine. My black label windage tray is lying at a buddies house in the US along with the oil pump and some other tid bits. Also found out my block didn't come with the lifter retainer basket bolts...I have the retainer baskets Held up there by a couple of bucks worth of bolts...argh
headers are on backwards as they won't clear since they are vette headers. Carb is mockup only, going w./ an SV1 or EZ EFI2.0 since that seems to support the hp it'll be making, others won't

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
Car looks good. I got some black gloss 20s on there way and they will be 20x10 with 295/35 Nitto Invos. I'm interested in how you upgraded the C5 brakes as I run Baer 13" fronts which are ZR1 vette brakes I believe. The 14s will fit the 20s better I think.
For watever it's worth I run the FAST EZ 2.0 on my 521 BBF in my 87 firebird (now a TA clone) and so far it's been really great. I totally recomend it esp with the full electronic timing if u get the dual sync distributer.

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
I decided not to put the LSX in the 82. I can't get myself over cutting up the power bulge hood, so I figured I'd build up the 396 I have and throw it in there. Onlu drawback is, I have a quicktime bell for the LS engine and not for the SBC. I'm wondering if there is no easy way to shim the stuff out so I can just bolt it up, using studs on the block. The LS input shaft is longer so if I make up thge difference with a spacer, then shim out the hydraulic throwout to sit neatly against the clutch pressure plate then it should work. I can then keep my old tick performance clutch master and all the lines on the T56 that's already in there (mockup w/ LS1 block)
Hoping the sump will clear.

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
Doesn't the lakewood bellhousing and the mcleod adpater allow the ls1 t56 to be a direct bolt in and uses the stock thirdgen hydraulics/pedal setup?

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
It's an LS1 to LS1 T56 bellhousing (8020), not an SBC to LS1 T56 (6023). That's the problem LOL
I have a new retrofit T56 with the adapter plate and everything including cable drive but I want to use it for the camaro since the ta doesn't need a cable for speedo. I'd also like to keep the bellhousing. I'll have to do some reasearch then, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Input is too long by an inch or so
The BH depth is 4.9 for an LT1 and 5.5 for an LS1 (and aftermarket is 6.3 with the adapter) but the ls1 input is about 1.5 inches longer from face to tip. That means there's about a 0.9" difference and that thickness spacer would allos the LS1 T56 to simply bolt up. Only thing left to do is shim out the hydraulic throwout by about that much. Am I missing something here? I don't see why people are uing a longer pilot bushing, this is only needed if the input shaft doesn't engage the crank properly, and with the LS1 model being longer, why space it out further than it needs to be. Obviously I'm overlooking something. I'll have to bolt the 2 together and see what can be done. A push type clutch is easy to set up by shimming a hydraulic throwout.
I have seen pics of spacers for the BH to block somewhere...anyone know who offered them?

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
Found it in a post by JMD
That would be perfect, all it would take is setting up the clutch itself. A normal push type clutch, a 2pc main flywheel, maybe a thick model and checking if the clutch plate rides the splines OK.

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
No need for those, since you already want to buy a blowproof bellhousing you can buy the quicktime 6023, it's a bolt on deal with t56 hydraulic throwout. They also have a conversion model for a mechanical or hydraulic fork style clutch (like stock 3rd gen), for the hydraulic fork you will need a mounting bracket for the slave. I don't know if they sell that. Much cleaner than a bell and an adapter plate.

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
I got a lot done. Project is well underway to becoming a running car. I rebuuilt a 2004 LS1 from a corvette and modified it a bit here and there. Running carbed because I wanted old school for a change. I do have a holley mid ram in case I want to change to EFI
Building up the LS1:
time to drop it in
and mate to the T56
it's in
this fits like a glove

Re: 1982 Trans Am, it needs some lovin too
no need for the mast oil pan I have,.... I'll use it for my other LS swap with stock crossmember then.
Home built SFC/trans mount combo works out fine
Daytone Sensors SmartSparkLS ignition controller
the D1SC is something I thought about since I had it lying around. I mocked it up to complete the brackets and spacers but it will not go on here... I built the engine with a tighter uench (much tighter) and the cam is not SC friendly. I dont want to grenade it.
Building the exhaust, speed engineering headers into 3"Y into 4 merge stepped downb to 3.5. Will get 2 spintechg mufflers in the rear but I was short on elbows and need to tweak the drivers side tip to get the turn downs equal distance from the edge of the bumper. the 2 sides next to the storage compartment are not symmetrical
