Re: Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
Muffler will be a spintech super pro street 9000 (loud lol)
Time to comtinue with the exhaust, it's a 3.5" pipe all the way to the back (muffler will be 3.5 also) and possibly the last section a 4" with a baloney cut to hide it under the car. I hate pipes sticking out the back
plenty of clearance. This line still needs the armor and heat sleeve around it
slip fit connection

Re: Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
started on the rear axle. Will be completely rebuilt.
Brakes are 12" corvette spec baer rotors, adapter brackets and PBR 3rd gen aljuminium calipers. Had to modify the stainless lines because those were for a delco moraine setup. All it takes is a little bending here and there and a new retainer tab for the brake line on the drivers side. Have the exact same setup on my 87 camaro.
The driveshaft got a fresh u joint. Waiting on the weld in lcarbs and then it's off to the blasters/coaters.
started with
after stripping off the old junk and setting up the new braking system. I know rotors are on backwards, this is mockup only. I also welded on a 2nd strap for the parking brake cable. There's usually only 1 on these since only the trailing side has it, with bothsides will be trailing this is a much cleaner way of retaining the cables instead of them flopping around loosely.

Re: Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
Remote filter setup all done
adapter:
lines
filter mount side
used copper washers to seal these bolts, just in case they might weep a bit
hoses routed close to oil pan, away from exhaust
hose for header evac
installed
new ground wire with a fresh side terminal end on it

Looks good, but how do you change the oil filter without getting oil all over in that location?

Re: Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
fitting rear end with new brakes.
jacked up close to bump stops, exhaust clearance is good
yoke play also, enough free travel left
and now for the bummer... this is what you get when a previous owner is an idiot and just starts drilling holes. First they had this fabbed POS trans mount that placed the trans off center quite a bit. I sorted that all out and guess what. The lower portion of the DS loop now rubs. Time to leave it off. The thing is installed crooked anyway but since it's already in I'll leave the upper section in. Then I'll probably use 2 of the bolts for the lower part for a custom exhaust hanger.

Re: Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
The rest of the exhaust was final welded, so once the muffler is on that part is ready
slip fit connection, I fabricate these to very close tolerances unlike what you can buy. They are ground out to a tight fit so there are no leaks, the clamp just holds the 2 sections together and doesn't have to be wrestled tight to get rid of leaks. Just a thin coat of red rtv is all it needs
rear section
merge, this got quite intricate...elbows flowing into each other and stepping up to a much larger diameter. I also added a small offset section to the passenger side tube above the crossmember for a little more clearance

Re: Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
I once posted a cad file, take it to a fab shop and you'll be set

it's in there, H-TownMinion found it in one of my old posts....

Re: Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
Some small things, exhaust tip. Removable. After removing a silencer can be slid in (have to fab one)
A big industrial quality clamp on the slip fit section
the tip
additional hanger to keep rear section from shifting and hitting panhard support or spare tire tube

Re: Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
correct air dam installed for more cooling air into the rad
comparison:
exhaust pieces, all there is to it
last 2 parts off to the powdercoaters, an exhaust bracket and the trans crossmember
speedo sender is also all buttoned up, this time the speedo will work lol. Have to figure out how many ppm the ford thing is, luckily I have a dakota digital splitter.

Also do you have any photos on how you sumped the stock tank? I'd like to do the same to mine.
Epic work all around. I will def follow this.

Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
It's a moroso unit but next time Id get a canton one. They are easier to install. O rings instead of a square ring and gasket.
I do have pics of sumping the tank....look in my 82 trans am build thread. Exactly the same procedure.
Basically you remove the plastic pickup box on tpi cars. Holesaw holes in the tank and weld on a competition engineering sump that requires a little modding to make it fit.

Re: Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
Because I like external pumps and this car has been converted to a mechanical pump. All the ECM wiring is gone. I made a custom harness for the entire thing using stock wiring and connectors wherever possible. This gives a constant supply of fuel, easily primes the pump without long cranking periods after sitting some time...and iless parts increases reliability. Let's say you want to upgrade the fuel system, hool up a -10 line? No problem, hook up 2 big fuel pumps? no problem.

Re: Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
Makes sense to me! The future upgrade is smart. How do you seal up the stock fuel pick up?

Re: Gerrutcamaro's GTA project car
Very nice build, especially the attention to detail. Looking back at Post #38, I see an oil pan I might try in my 383 build, using those same OBX headers and '880 block in my build. Would you happen to know that Milodon stroker oil pan part #? Is it the 31505 or the 30909?
Milodon's site link: http://www.milodon.com/oil-pans/stre...ns-sbchevy.asp
I'm guessing the 30909, because the '880 chevy stroker block has a 1 piece RMS and oil dipstick on the right side, and those motor mount brackets look to be of the 'tall and narrow' style which is required for the 30909.
