I saw this and went to check it out after i sold my 2 4th gen camaro project for 1000. They only wanted a 1000 for it. needs painted and the interior freshened up. Fired right up after sitting for 3 years (after a jump of course) and ran STRONG.Couldn't pass it up even though i am more of a camaro guy.

Looks pretty good, even though it has Formula "deep dish" wheels and not the standard 16" diamond spoke wheels that were stock on GTA's.

Look forward to seeing more pics as you clean it up! Good find.

I dont think those are formula rims. more so they are the standard 15" firebird rims

You may be right. I intially thought that, but then figured someone would not have dropped down to 15" rims on a GTA, but I guess you never know. Both rims have a similar look.

I would want to get back to the original rims that came on the GTA.

most of the time formula rims look pushed in at the center and ta rims are flat if not the spoke type.nice buy for the price.

ok upon getting it home( i know i know shoulda double checked before buying it) i couldnt find the SPID sticker to verify it is indeed a gta.is there any other way to check? everything else(minus the rims obviously and spid sticker) checked out according to http://www.gtasourcepage.com/newauthentication.html . however the vin does come back as t/a which is normal.

also the guy i got it from apparently lost the door keys as the keys on the keyring dont goto any other of the locks on the car.The hatch release button clicks the release in the back however the hatch doesnt release. Short of busting the lock and using a screwdriver is there anyway to pop the hatch until i try to get a key cut?

also pics will be uploaded when my phone gets charged up again.
and for the record the rims are 16 in

lol yes it was. i seem to have luck scoring fbodies in mitchell. Its where i bought my camaro convertible last summer as well.

dunno if its still on craigslist but there was an 88 gta notchback rolling chassis in Spencer for sale i was gonna try to check out before i found this one.

also FWIW i ran my camaro's vin through compnine and it didnt have anything on it either. Does that site work for 3rd gens?

It looks rough but that can be fixed and it does look like a gta . My gta came with camaro rims on it. I thought it was cool till I seen what my car was and the rims that should be on it. ( I never knew about gta's till after i bought mine and the guy had it on craigslist listed it as a firebird. It had only 1 gta emblem on it.) Y84 was an important rpo code that I found in my center console. I love craigslist especally when the person doesnt know what they have.

Got it confirmed it is a GTA using an app called vinwow on my android phone.also ran my camaro's vin to make sure it didn't list cars as the(how do I put this?)desirable variety. I.e. my camaro came back as a rs not an iroc like most websites do.

Now onto my to do listin order of priority)
new window motors
new window switches
new ttop /window seals
clean up interior(in progress)
swap seats for my spare camaro seats untill I get the seats redone(drivers side seat is in,gta seats are all out)
Pop the 2 dents out/prep for paint.
find new center console and replace
replace broken passenger side ttop trim piece
engine tuneup(shouldn't be that bad.I drove it home over 15 miles and ran like a champ)
new turn signal/windshield wiper lever
New dash top

I have a set of factory 88' GTA wheels that just came off my GTA. Looked great, comes with lug nuts and the black covers (factory). They have Falken Ziex 512's.

update on interior work:

tried scrubbing the carpet with some (think it was prestone brand) auto carpet cleaner.All it did was smear the stains everywhere and looked like straight shitstreaks. lol Also removed the underdoor plates and saw what color the carpet was supposed to be .It was gray(kinda figured) and over the years i guess it got sunbleached to the whitish color it is now.
Ended up yanking the carpet out and found some surface rust and found 3 small holes in the floor pan.Nothing major imo. One day this car will get new floorpans just not right now.
Sanded down the rust and applied some duplicolor rustfix. After that dried sprayed the floorpans with some rubber undercoating stuff.

Luckily i had tore the carpet out the 4th gen camaro that donated its seats to my 89 vert.I ve got it laid down in the car and had planned on getting the seats back in tonight. However that didn't get to happen as a thunderstorm came and dampened(pun intended lol) my plans.One of these days i ll get my garage cleaned out enough to open car doors open all the way lol.The carpet needs trimmed along the doors and where it heads into the hatch. I dont see why people say 4th gen carpet doesnt line up right in a 3rd gen.I had zero problems other than where it needs minor trimming.I need to extend the holes for seat belt clips about 1/2 in for the front and about an inch for the rear.Nothing major.No issue around the shifter/parking brake handle.Matter of fact it went in easier than the stock carpet came out around the shifter and parking brake.Maybe because this carpet was out of a 6 speed car and it was factory cut different?

Looks like you lucked out on the floors. My car was sitting 6 years and no one replaced the t-top weather strips and well she leaked bad! My floors are pretty bad

yea i think i did get lucky with the floors considering most of the interior was ruined by the ttops leaking (probably didnt help the driver's side window motor is dead and its stuck down..glad i have a garage lol)

Got the carpet shortened up and trimmed going into the hatch and tucked the purposely left extra length under the hatch carpet.(only thing i didnt snap a pic of . d'oh)
got the backseats in,test fit an early 4th gen camaro console in and got the passenger side seat in and holes cut for the seat belt mount and latch. Was gonna run wires for driver's side seat ,cut holes for seatbelts and bolt down the seat but the gf came out bitching that supper was done 1/2 hour ago(it was 9 p.m.) and i musta lost track of time so i conceded for the night.(Hell i m getting dirty looks now cause i fired up the laptop as we're eating.lol)

Got the drivers side seat and all related crap done today finally.also halfwy installed new hatch supports .halfway because it didnt have any when i bought it and its missing the bolts where they bolt to the body. next up is finding some good door ill plates,putting in new ttop seals,drivers side window motor(after I get the window up somehow lol),finding a good console.but all that's gotta wait till next payday when I go boneyard hunting for some of those interior goodies.

Some bad news also:drove it to an atm after I got the drivers seat in.started sputtering(sel came on) and dieing.wouldn't start for about three minutes.got it going and it would start to sputter nd the sel came on again and I put the pedal to the floor.the sel flickered like in some street racing movie dramatic scene as it backfired and surged to life and as long as I ws going above 20 it was fine.I was thinking the egr valve got stuck.got home hooked it up to my laptop/winaldl and sure enough error 32 egr. Booo! Lol oh well add that to the todo list.

wow hard to believe i aint posted any news in almost 2 weeks now... guess it's time for an update!

took the egr out last week to try to clean it(i m a cheapass just for the record) and got it all freed up or so i thought.put it back together only for it to get stuck open again.went to take it all back apart and stripped a torx bolt on the plenum.Havent messed with that since.
got my window switches i bought off scott13676 today.Spliced in the new harness ends (mine were corroded to hell and weren't attempting to fix)plugged in new switches and my previously thought dead window motor came to life.After that i thought something seemed off about the review mirror and after comparing to the mirror in my vert decided it was too damn small(were they like that stock in a firebird/trans am?i ll post a pic later)and yanked that bitch out and replaced with one out of a 94 z28 w/"dope scopes"(what I always called them.i don't know proper term).Looks much better now.Haven't decided how i'm gonna run the wire for the lights though.Guess it depends on whether or not i win an overheard console off ebay. As i was shutting the garage down for the evening something caught my eye around the license plate holder.Never figured out what it was but while i was checking it out i noticed i don't have a license plate light assembly.

After this post i m attempting to guerrilla glue the center console back together where its starting to separate at the top,shop for a cheap nose,fender and some miscellaneous interior trim\weatherstripping \console top\plate light. Hopefully i have this together and painted before the end of June.

i found a firebird on craigslist too. just bought it. im a camaro guy, i was looking for one. but i found this firebird for cheap and whit alot of potential. so i had to get it...l98....

still working on this beast(bitch lol) slowly. Finally got the damn stripped torx bolt off after trying a bolt removal kit that failed.Ended up grinding the damn thing off with a dremel.The ironic part about dremeling it off is towards the end the dremel bit started spinning what was left of the bolt out somehow.Beats the **** out of me.So now after next paycheck i can get an egr now that i ve spent money on tools that was intended for an egr valve.After all that back to prepping for paint and getting the minor things finished up in the interior.

After some testing of the egr solenoid i found out it was the problem not the egr valve.Found one out of 305 carbed firebird at my local junkyard.It was close to the same,the wiring plugin was pointed the other direction but took the old solenoid connection broke it off and ran new wires into the plug so i didnt have to mutilate my wiring harness.Put the tpi back together finger tight(cause i know somethings gonna go wrong/not hooked up right)and tried to start the car.It starts sometimes.Won't idle now.backfires if under 2k runs fire above.Ran battery down messing with it,which lead to the camaro meeting the gta.
Got a new error code ..34.(didnt have airtubing hooked up trying to start).No more 32 yay! Ended up swapping battery out of camaro into gta and drained it too.Never acted like it wanted to fire.Called it a day after putting dead battery back in camaro,jumped the camaro ,put the top down and went for a long cruise.Its been about 2 months since i actually drove it and i forgot how much fun it is to drive.i went to a secluded part of down and was being a hardass with the ratchet shifter.Came over hill to meet the county sheriff lol luckily he just smiled and waved.

anyhoos scored another ttop bag(this one is the zipup style) while i was at the junkyard for 10 bucks.Every ttop car they had there had lexan ttops(like 5 or 6 cars.sucks that mine are c&c ).All passenger side cupholders were there no drivers sides tho otherwise i would have picked up a set.what a day .i feel like i m never gonna get this running right to get on with painiting it

changed fuel filter today.no progress made. I m 99.9% sure the fuel pump is the problem here. Will get confirmation sometime next week when my buddy brings over a fuel pressure gauge. Also car caught on fire today after it was started on ether. guess i had sprayed too much and one massive backfire(out exhaust and intake) later burnt the air filter up.
funny thing is the car ran fine as the air filter was burning. check engine light turned off even and no errors. Someone care to explain that one to me please? Melted my failing maf sensor so not really any harm done other than burning/melting pieces i needed to replace anyways.


as seen in last nights post disassembly has begun. Dent in the fender popped right out and just needs some soothing from a hammer to finish the job.Still haven't found a nosepiece for my car in a local junkyard.It seems there must've been a game of "how far back can i get a utility pole in an engine bay via the front end" that no one told me about.lol I've got one last one i'm checking out before i check out junkyards in the Louisville area.I know i can get one online but i don't wanna pay shipping on something that awkward to ship.My biggest gripe is about how big a pain in the *** it was to take that fender off.I wanna do a burnout on whoever designed it that way's face.Seems like they were trolling shadetree mechanics when they designed it.I ve taken fenders off before on (insert any car but a firebird here) and they weren't this bad.But enough ranting.

Last week the roof console i bought off ebay was personally delivered by the guy i bought it off of in a nice new Escalade on 22's or 24's .Was kind of funny he saw my vert camaro and wanted to buy it.Anyways just need to mount it (after i figure out how far back it should be mounted)and run some wires for powering the map lights on it and the map lights on the rearview mirror i put in.

I like the look and have everything to do it.and i do mean everything hood harness intake 2 sets of throttle bodies 2 air filters ecm and i m only in it like 200 bux for all that. Not that i m gonna use that pos ecm or harness.gonna use tbi ecm and get an osterich to figure out a good .Bin file and burn a chip.i m not about to repin my harness for tpi and pay what people want for all of the intakeDude that brought me my overhead console tried selling me some of ghis 3rd gen leftovers.he wanted 400 for a tpi intake.i looked at him and told him i could get an edelbrock setup for that and he told me i was lowballing and he didnt deal with people like me and changed the subject.
