Comeback of a Classic: 1992 GTA
Hello Folks, I’ve been on the forums now for a while, but haven’t been actively involved with third gens for quite some time until recently. I’ve just picked up this medium green metallic 1992 GTA, somewhat rare as far as third gens go, and definitely one of the better documented 1992 Trans Am’s out there.
I’ve been after this car for a number of years, and the stars finally aligned to make bringing it home a reality for me. The car was very well looked after by the previous owner, and is in excellent condition. Some minor mods here and there, but easily returned to original condition if I choose to go that route. The previous owner kept all the original parts for the car, save for the original wheels and radio.
However, the car has sat for a number of years, and will need some work and TLC to get it running again and back to its former glory, so to speak.
Here are some photos from a few years ago, courtesy of the previous owner:

Re: Comeback of a Classic: 1992 GTA
The plan at this point is to go through the car completely and make sure everything is sound mechanically. Repair and replace parts as required, and detail / clean the car as I go. I’ve asked the previous owner to contribute to the thread also, so hopefully we’ll hear from him here from time to time. I’ll be sure to post updates and progress pics as we go. Stay tuned…..

Great looking car for sure. The previous owner surely made some tasteful modifications to modernize it. Look like your ready to take it to the next level...performance.

Thanks, I agree about the mods. Not sure I'll be doing much more to this car performance wise unfortunately. I'd just like to have a nice TA to cruise around in on sunny days. I have an '87 Iroc I've been building for a while that's getting the full treatment. I can't afford to go nuts on both

Nearly 20 years of blood sweat and tears went into that car. Im glad its in the hands of the right owner now. Cheers Neven. I look forward to seeing my old car resurrected.
PS I think you have more of my old pictures than I do. LOL

Re: Comeback of a Classic: 1992 GTA
Gary did a good job of photo documenting the car before it was loaded, so I know what was there, and what wasn't. The rear bumper was rubbing on something in the trailer, but I've managed to polish that and most of the other rub marks and blemishes out. They also transported the original hood for me, and although it was protected somewhat, the way it was loaded also caused some rubbing damage. After 2500 highway miles the body line (ridge) that runs down the middle of the hood has worn flat and right down to bare metal. Not an easy fix.
Of course, even though we documented everything on the Bill of Lading and other paperwork, I can't get a hold of anyone at the transport company to put the cost of repairs through their insurance (like they agreed to do). Live and learn. It'll have to go through my insurance now.

Also, does anyone have any leads on a U1A head unit that would have the proper dates codes for this car? I'd like to put that back to original if possible.

Re: Comeback of a Classic: 1992 GTA
Thanks! The car isn't running/driving at the moment, so the damage was caused when the transport company was pushing the car in place and into the trailer. Who pushes a car on the spoiler?! Found a bunch of other damage from when they loaded it (you can see the hand prints from where they were pushing), left tail light is broken, and they tore the plastic guard under the front bumper off too.

Re: Comeback of a Classic: 1992 GTA
I think the damage happened either a)during the unloading of the car... we pushed it in from the front end as the car was backed into the trailer (see pics)... he had a double car hauler with a bunch of furniture in the front section of the trailer so my other theory is b) something fell on the car as it was being transported...

That's a beautiful car! Easy to see why you (both) fell in love with it. I look forward to watching you bring it back.

Major congrats! She's going to be great!
That sucks about the damage during transport. Mine suffered damage as well in a container right after it's new paint job Took the wind out of my sails far as putting it back together.
That engine bay sure is quite a job, but she's going to shine afterwards!

Re: Comeback of a Classic: 1992 GTA
I did find one other green '92 up here for sale recently. It's way overpriced ($24,000 CAN), but this place is known for that. Low miles, and nice shape though.

On a positive note, I have a claim in with my insurance, so hopefully all the damage will get repaired soon enough...!

Thanks Buddy!
Thanks Irvan, Gary is an enthusiast like the rest of us, so understands the cool factor when it comes to history and documentation.
Thank you Dave, I can't wait to start on it. Making some room to work in the garage as we speak!
Thanks for the kind words! Nice 92 by the way, awesome color!
Thank you. Hopefully I can track the wheels down.
Major congrats! She's going to be great!

Wow I have not seen that car in years! I used to know the original owner once upon a time. I know the car is rare and was well taken care of. I laughed when I saw part of my car in one of your pics, those were fun days!
Congratulations on your purchase you will not be sorry!

Re: Comeback of a Classic: 1992 GTA
Has anyone ever tried to repair a crack like this in these spoilers? I'm being told by the body shop here that it's not repairable, and that I should find a used, undamaged one as a replacement. That would = $$$

Not trying to be a dick or anything... But I emailed the seller you got that from 2 hours after it was listed. I sent you a PM 3 days ago asking you to let me know if you decide to sell it. Now it's yours, and you can do whatever you want with it, but it's a bit annoying when I've already expressed an interest in something and you're offering it to someone else without even naming your asking price.

Fair enough, but if you're talking to someone about purchasing an item and they blow you off and offer it to the guy standing behind you in line, how would it strike you?
It's public in this thread now, because your actions are disrespectful and both you and any potential buyers should know how you operate.
Don't worry about it, I wouldn't give you a penny of my money now anyway.

Re: Comeback of a Classic: 1992 GTA
If you want to buy up parts cheap and turn around and sell them high, go ahead. But if you're going to play favorites about who you'll offer parts to, rather than first come/first serve, don't be surprised if you get called out for ruffling feathers. Maybe you run into issues dealing on forums because you subscribe to bad business practices?
If you want to keep ranting about turning it into a sled for your kids, or burying it in your basement until you die of old age, there's a PM feature.
Seriously, shut up already and let the thread get back on topic.

They don't want to spend the time repairing the spoiler. You can absolutley repair it. They think its easier to just buy as new one.... There aren't new ones anymore Colission shops just remove and replace...
