Pics of my old 1989 GTA

I was the 2nd owner, bought as a 2 year-old car from a farmer who had driven it every day... It was a gorgeous car then, and I kept it that way in the 14+ years I had it. Who knows now... I heard it's no longer garaged

I have been fortunate enough to own performance cars for as long as I've been driving. I remember searching for a car, looking for Corvettes and found a new black/black GTA. It gave the image, like a rocket. Gorgeous!!

I ended up buying the Corvette, then two years later, bought a GTA. While I still have the Corvette, I did end up selling the GTA after owning it for 14 years.

In 1991, I remember running my 89 GTA 5.7L car at 14.3 stock. I was able to, with a few mods (which were limited in the era) to run 14.0 @96 or 97 mph, eventually. With different cylinder heads a camshaft and intake manifold change, the car ran 13.1 @109. Later on, looking for 12s, I changed the engine to a 383 long block and the car ran 12.2@115. This was on a 245/45/16 BFG tire. Car was fast for the day. This was around 1995.

It was a fun car, and I'd buy one again in a heartbeat, but most are roaches, or poorly modded excuses. That's what keeps me away for now, but I'll find the right one again...

As far as the F-Body cars, in between, we owned a 2011 Callaway Camaro, which was a phenomenal performing car. We've since sold that however, for something a bit more practical every day.

I love 1980s cars Here's some pics of my old 1989 5.7L T-Top GTA. I am looking for another GTA now...

Re: Pics of my old 1989 GTA

Thanks. Those three were quite the set of cars. I've moved on from 2 of the 3 though... Miss the GTA though...

Last night, going through some stuff, found a 3 ring binder which had all the service records, warranty card from when new, recall notices, etc. from my 1989 GTA. I contacted the fella who bought the car, and he's interested in the binder. It belongs with the car.

Also in the binder, the build sheet. Had some kind of chemical spilled on it when it was in the car still. Not sure what or how, but it's been in the plastic sleeve since 1991 or 1992.

Found the receipts from the engine conversion, when changing from 5.7L to 6.3L 383 stroker. The owner took me at my word - car was super fast anyways, but contacted him again to provide the rest of the paperwork. Figured it's proper home is with the car. Hope he drives it over when the paperwork is pick-up. Haven't seen the car since 2005

Love all 3 of those cars! Especially the GTA. Wow that 383 was quick! Hell 14.3 was no slouch for stock. I've always heard the 89 5.7 TPI had a hotter Corvette cam. Got one myself for later build 207 213 duration #049 can.

Re: Pics of my old 1989 GTA

It was quick. My friend w a twin cat, plastic t top 89 5.7L GTA ran 14.2 stock
The 89 cam was nice from GM.
Car Craft I seem to recall, once published a chart. 89 cam and possibly 88(?) were best.

13.1@105 in the 1/4 sounds right. It launched hard, but was a flying brick.
The 1989 Corvette (pictured) ran a best time of 13.5@105

This was all back in 1989-1995 time frame, and the GTA was the quickest of the three.

Re: Pics of my old 1989 GTA

Gun Metal GTAs are awesome. I wanted one when I bought my red GTA but a quality one was no where to be found at the time.

Someday I'll have a hard top gun metal car. Love the look of those.

Nice cars in your old collection. Good to see folks like you appreciate them.

Re: Pics of my old 1989 GTA

Found this old pic. Back in this time, I thought the garage would’ve been big enough for all I’d ever want to own.
Ended up building a garage/shed to get the mower/tool/equipment out of where the cars were kept. Smart choice!

Great times. Fun cars.
