91 Firebird Insurance rate?
Hello, I am new to this site because I am getting my car in a few short weeks. Its a 91' Firebird (May be a Trans Am because its a v8 but all other signs point to Firebird so Im confused).
Im 21 and this is my first car. I never needed a car up until this point, so thats why Im a little older than most first-car-owners. My question is if the insurance will be the same as any other car, or if Im going to need the Classic Car Insurance that I see a lot of other people purchasing. This car would be my Daily Driver, and yes, Im aware of how [poorly] they do in snow. Itll be for emergencies only and wont actually be a DD until the Spring. Go easy on me, Im brand new to the Third Gen World. I have many plans on some resto work so Ill be on this site a lot.

Re: 91 Firebird Insurance rate?
1st, base Firebirds also had a v8 option until 4th gen, so it is probably a Firebird with a 305 TBI.
2nd, Price depends on your credit score, driving history, etc. If it is daily driver then normal insurance will be fine, and should not be expensive at all unless you are high risk. Classic Car insurance is only needed when the cars are modded or worth more, so the extra insurance is needed to cover it. Just call and get a quote. It is free and will answer the question for you.

Re: 91 Firebird Insurance rate?
NO...........You will NOT need "classic car" insurance for that car.
YES...you will prob. pay more for your Bird insurance than if it was a grandma Buick
or Chevy. I am OLD and my insurance company (Geico) charges me MORE for my
Z-28 than my Buick or my Chevy Impala!
But you are under 25 and buying first time insurance so your gonna pay a LOT no
matter what car you buy. I have 3 boys under 25 and they pay a lot for basic
liability...........................

Re: 91 Firebird Insurance rate?
Let's put it this way, I got my first car when I was 17. It was a 2009 Chevy Cobalt LT. 4 doors, 2.2l four cylinder, FWD, red. I was paying a little north $1200 a year for insurance with that car.
Now I am 20 and I drive a 1987 Firebird. 2 doors, 2.8l six cylinder, RWD, red. I am paying $760 a year for it.
And to answer your other question, don't insure it as a classic.

You can't insure it as a classic due to your age......most classic car insurance will not touch anyone under 25, and if they did it would be through the roof.

From Hagerty's site
"Q. How many years of driving experience is required of an insured?
A.
We are happy to discuss coverage with all enthusiasts and able to consider drivers 18 years old and older. In some states, we cannot offer coverage to drivers with less than 5 years driving experience. Underwriting guidelines, including household driving records, will apply."

Ok, so he's 21....and unless he got his drivers license right away at 16, he may not have 5 years yet. But as I said in the first case.....MOST classic car coverage will not cover a driver under 25.

Re: 91 Firebird Insurance rate?
Hagerty will insure the car........BUT.......as with my TTA........it's NOT for daily driving.
Also, car will not be driven more than 2k miles a year. Must show pictures and have a value on the car. For a 91 FB/TA, unless heavily modded and pristine classic condition, regular insuance should/would suffice.
