Black 92 Vert on eBay

Although I live in Florida I am posting in this region because this car is in Lombard at Windy City Motorsports. My Dad lives within 10 miles but he's getting too old to trust his opinion...so has anybody SEEN this car in person? Clearly the dash has a crack and the console arm rest is messed up- which they fail to mention- but otherwise looks decent but WAY too expensive. What's this car really worth? I am specifically looking for a well equipped Black vert. Any opinions welcome- T

Re: Black 92 Vert on eBay

Their cars always seemed a bit polished up and marked up. I did inquire about a car (non-thirdgen) of theirs a few years back and kind of got the runaround. It had an exhaust leak and I asked why they didn't just fix it. They seem to have some obscure harder to find cars every now and then. Usually with higher miles.

iirc, they're an offshoot of sorts of Supra specialists Sound Performance. Same owner or something. I've dealt with SP a few times with no complaints back when they were in Bloomingdale.

If I was closer I'd check it out. I love car hunting.

I want to say Chaz is in Lombard.

If he sees this he might take a peek for you if he has time.

I'm an hour away.

Re: Black 92 Vert on eBay

Assuming this car's condition with 73K miles is an above average daily driver what's it worth?

Re: Black 92 Vert on eBay

I'm not bashing anybody's car, but that thing has been for sale for at least a year, possibly longer. (I know this because I had my 91 convertible with 26,000 miles for sale at the beginning of last year and this car and mine were up at the same time.) They actually had it priced higher, then they drop it, then they raise it, they are all over the place with it. I also suspect it is a repaint and has the wrong decals on it and in the wrong locations at that....never understood why people can't get decal placement correct after painting a car. I'd like to say they are priced perfect, because that would make my car worth more, but I'd say they are a minimum of a few grand high.

Re: Black 92 Vert on eBay

THANKYOU toomanybirds for the reply...I think this car is worth about 10.5 retail in current market. I agree that the paint looks way too good to be original. That's OK as long as it was done well. I have followed it for a few months, sometimes its 15K sometimes 14K shipping included. I will be patient for the right car to come along- but I want a Black one. I could not afford my Pace Car at sticker in '89 and waited 2 years for one to come up for sale with 5K miles , paid 24,000. Best car I've ever owned, very reliable over the years, still one of the best looking sports cars on the road IMHO.

Re: Black 92 Vert on eBay

Can I ask what you sold your 26K mile car for? And what color was it? I talked to a guy at this place today and threw out a number. It all comes down to condition, I've seen several Pace Cars (what I own) with 20-30K miles that don't look anywhere near as good as my 85K car. The motor on this Black Vert looks immaculate, sign of a well cared for car.

Re: Black 92 Vert on eBay

Never sold the convertible, lots of lookers but nobody with the cash. (Had a dealer offer me $13K and he was going to mark it up to $18K, but I didn't like him much, so I passed.) It is red with tan leather interior and tan top and a few little suspension add ons done by previous owner. I believe I am the third owner of it and it was supposedly always owned by collectors, which makes the fact that it has the wrong tail lights kinda odd, but it does, in fact have the wrong tail lights. No damage, no prior accident, just the lights were swapped out, strange. It'll go up for sale again this spring because frankly, I have too many of these cars.

Re: Black 92 Vert on eBay

I can get the black one for 11.5 .My Dad went and looked at it but he does not know what to look for. The paint is good, bumper probably redone, which is typical and does not bother me. Interior is as shown. The only thing I need to pull the trigger here is verification that it runs and drives with no issues , AC and Odometer work. I just cannot get the time to fly up and see it...not that it seems to be going anywhere

Re: Black 92 Vert on eBay

$11.5 is strong money for a car with that kind of mileage, in my opinion. A car with a third of the miles just sold on Ebay at $12,500.00, it was likely a respray also, but it appeared much more correct than the black one....unfortunately for you, it was red like mine. In fact my car and that one that sold on Ebay are very similar, except mine is original paint. If you are serious about the black one, I'd get a body guy to look at the car, I'm pretty sure the floor pans have been replaced and with that kind of rot, there will be many other places that should be investigated. Again, I'm not bashing anyone's car, but there is an awful lot of armor all on that car and a real concerted effort to make the car appear the "best" it can...and I really have an issue with the wrong stickers and improper placement, but that is my pet peeve, so feel free to ignore that....it just really jumps out at me. Interior looks good, dash pad of course, but I'd want to know what the story is with the floor pans and what else they did before they painted it. Good luck with your search!

Re: Black 92 Vert on eBay

Tony, don't rely on me, I don't want to be the one that makes you walk from the car. However, take a look at the pictures they've provided, it appears to me, and I may be wrong (if you ask my wife she'll say I'm ALWAYS wrong) but that floor pan doesn't look right to me. I think the pan was replaced, and if that is the case it isn't the oh so common, "crappy GM paint job so I had to respray it" thing, it means that car underwent a lot of reconstructive work. Send a body guy, or gal, over and have them tell you definitively before you walk, I'd hate to think you walked because of my two cents.....

Re: Black 92 Vert on eBay

Well, toomany birds... I've been around long enough that I believe that things will happen when it's time. So I have been also looking into other cool convertibles and came across a guy in town here with a '02 Firehawk Conv. in the classy Pewter Metallic color (automatic). Being a few days late on my inquiry he was holding it for an out of town buyer. He held if for a week..then another, he had lots of interest obviously with only 202 verts made. I gave up then he called me yesterday, I went over and bought it. A 70+ year old gentleman that babied it- immaculate. This configuration-5 made. VERY COOL !
