Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

tried to keep the suspension simple:

no front sway bar
Lakewood 90/10 drag struts

Random Technologies torque arm (still mounts to clamshell on side of trans)
Spohn tubular lower control arms
Spohn LCA relocation brackets
stock ws6 rear sway bar
Lakewood 50/50 drag shocks
Airlift airbags in rear springs, set at 15psi passenger, 10psi driver
Eiback drag launch springs front/back

i think the car should go a 1.29 next time out.
after this post i changed to afco double adjustables in the rear and went 1.30. was hooking just fine at that point, my only problem was keeping the front end down. if i could have kept it down. it should have gone 1.29 with the 150 shot and some timing added back in.
meh...

I had to read back to see what my original response was. My best 60' so far has been 1.273. I can't remember what my rear double adjustable shocks were set at or what my 4-link IC was set at.

I got a 1.347 with the back wheels last year when I put the car on the bumper

i've changed a little since this

v6 springs in front have been swapped to moroso trick springs
swapped iroc rear bar for bmr xtreme ARB.

i also added more power, put a th400 in it, and went 1.49 one time, but would go bottom 1.5x's like clockwork. the converter i had from TSI was AWESOME, but was a little tight on the hit for my combo. would have liked a 150 shot i'm sure though.

now i'm t56, so i'm sure i have my work cut out to get back into the 1.4x range, but i added a little hp too, and have a plate kit if i decide it's not fast enough now.

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

Im going out to the track again in a week. Whole different combo this time. Got a strange S60 with detroit locker and adj. LCA's in bottom hole.. Seems to be the general consensus....Bottom hole. PS airbag 15psi , cheap rear shocks, and 90/10 struts. Hope it dont lift too much. oh, on MT ET street radials. Goal for first pass is 1.5x and then start cranking boost.
Ultimate goal is 1.3x

1badrz28....thats a badass car. The ONLY thing i dont like is everyone going to the forward scoops. But that car sure is schweet.

Matt...yea git the trans fixed and back in...and its all good to go now. It was like 95 degrees...147* track temp and it worked great with only 19 lbs in the radials.

I usually run 21 but didnt want to risk it. Lol ill see you at yb nats im sure

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

I'm really researching this subject now. My 87 Iroc has been 1.79 on completely stock (130k mile worn) suspension on Firestone radials (stock size) and consistently run 1.84's on the same. (the 1.79 run on the stock engine Ride along in the Turbo Iroc on a 300 mile round trip to Emerald Coast Dragstrip in Holt, Fl - YouTube)

The problem is the new engine makes more power in the roll out and it over powers the radials. So now the best I've seen is 1.97 and often see 2.1. The track was closed a while and it really hurt the hook as well.

Now I want to really optimize the 60 foot into the 1.45-1.55 range. If I can, I'll see at least a .5 second improvement in my ET.

Just looking over the posts in this thread, a couple of things stand out to me. Those of you with the most impressive 60 foot seem to be using front coil over adjustable struts. Definitely a set of rear shocks that are set around 50/50 make a big difference. It seems the LCARB is beneficial too. Some of the most impressive times are using stock torque arms. And QA1 adjustable shocks/struts seem to be mentioned several times.

What I'm doing is trying to figure out the most effective items so I can keep the initial investment within a reasonable budget. I'm debating making the big jump and going full QA1 shocks and struts with a front coil over conversion. This seems to be the best match for my car's multi-use lifestyle. I don't really carve corners much but I'd like to reserve the ability to, so fixed drag struts aren't option.

A set of Hoosier Quick Time Pro D.O.T. Tires would cure that problem. Best tires we've ever run but I only live about 3 miles from the track so driving them there isn't an issue.

Yea...tires would greatly help. Then...the lca relocation brackets.

90/10 struts woukd help and be ok on the street....i only have cheapo lakewood 90/10s.

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

I made it to the track, but blew the M/T DR's away. Finicky tires when im used to a drag slick, but they are worn out. I also live just a few short miles away from my drag strip so I'm ordering a pair of Hoosier DOT's. At least i can still run the street shoot outs with those tires. Going back out in a week or two and will be running slicks and corn this time!

the moroso springs up front with koni spa-1's are a great setup for the strip. i would probably go that route before the coilover conversion on a street car. but thats just me. maybe do the big block moroso springs since you have a pretty much full weight car with turbo. i am not sure what other struts are available that would allow you to adjust them to your liking off the track, though. my suggestion would give you a fairly "mushy" ride.

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

I 'm going to hold off on the front coil over conversion for the moment. I did go ahead with QA1's for the rear and relocation brackets along with a driveshaft loop. I'm getting some ET Streets tonight. Hopefully that loop shows up quick so I don't go throwing a driveshaft, but I don't expect huge improvements until I put the shocks on. Worn front struts are good for hooking but worn rear shocks sure don't help!

I will look into the Koni's up front and also considering the non-coil over conversion QA1 route. I keep hearing about harsh rides on coil over conversions. Once I recoupe from the cost of this stuff I bought today I will work on the front end items. Thanks for the input guys. Great thread!

Although mine arent fast for this board I though id add my times since Ive made a hand full of times in the 1.70's.

I got a best of 1.76

Foot brake no electronics
Kyb adjustables on the rear set to 50/50
Warn out soft stockers on the front
I box welded the rear LCA
13psi in 28x10 inch slicks.

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

hey everyone i have a question about front suspension .

my car weighs in about 3195 with me in it. most weight taken out of the car was the front.

i have the qa1 coil over drag package, anfd they came with 150# 12 inch long springs. double adj struts set at absolute quickest opening rate, and 12 closing ( i can go to 18)
well in short 1.59 60ft with a decent small block on a small shot.

im currently at a 125# x 12 but feel as if the car does not react fast enough, nor pick up as much as it should.

what is everyone using for there coil over set ups.

note: rear suspension using stock v8 springs cut 1 coil, and qa1 18 way single adj set at 4.

moroso trick springs and koni spa-1's. it reacts too much for 60's in the 1.30-1.32 range, and i had to put limiters on it it. small block, 100-150 shot, ~3100lb. raceweight on 275's.

1.39 on a stock 10 bolt @ 3400lbs lol. You are on borrowed time my friend. I'd behoove you to spend a Lil bit of coin on a 9" . Especially if you still have c clips. Who wants to be that you tube guy that has his axle going down the 1320 still attached to the wheel while the cars still sitting at the starting line.

looking at some pics from the last day out, either the sidewalls are starting to go away, or I need a bit more psi...

like I said though the car only got 10-15 1/8 mile passes on a new setup this year...so I am sure it had a bit more in it..

figure it's time for an update on here, lol.

it actually didn't take much to get the car to want to 60' harder, but did take a little driving time to get used to the setup. i went 1.41 on a 26x10.0 stiffwall m/t et drag back in june. trans is getting set up for a pump and faceplate/viper shaft to make sure i don't have any more failures (popped the input shaft/cluster gear shaft in july). i also ditched the plate before i even used it and have been focusing on N/A performance.

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

Been a few years since anyone one's posted here but there are some good set up here and info as well.

since I have a totally different set up and also made some new best 60 foot this weekend I figured I'd share.

I have a 385 sbc. mph vs the 3380 race weight it says 396hp and 425hp. First is mph, 2nd is et. That's on Wallace racing so not sure if it's considering in drivetrain loss or if it's crank hp.

Ran a 1.58 as a best 60.

275 drag radials with 18psi in them
I have a uei adj. Tq arm.
uei lca
th350 trans with a 3500 freak show converter
uei crossmember with d shaft loop.
Lakewood 90/10 struts and v6 springs up front
lakewood 50/50shocks out back.
no front sway bar.
3380 race weight

10 bolt rear end
3.23 gears
Moser 28 spline axles
c clip eliminates
girdle with bearing supports
locker
and on borrowed time.

Figure i should update, changed to XR 292 cam, back to 1.5 rockers, 1 3/4 LT's, and switched to alky.

1.40 60'
10.71. @ 128 mph.

-Jegster torque arm, non adjustable
-bmr lcarb's
-spohn non-adj panhard rod
-spohn spherical rod ended 'moly lca's
-cut v6 springs all the way around
-chassis engineering cheapo shocks set in the middle (30/70 maybe?)
-iroc rear sway bar
-no front sway bar
-8pt roll bar
-jegster bolt in sfc's that i welded in.
things have changed, and they continue to change. best 60' so far now has been a 1.33 with the wheels way up in the air but i missed a 2-3 shift and the run was aborted.

things that were changed:
jegster torque arm is now a pa racing torque arm
front struts were changed to 90/10 lakewoods but have since been replaced with afco double adjustables
rear shocks were changed to viking double adjustables but have since been replaced with afco double adjustables
pa racing coil over setup up front with 12"x125lbs springs
8 point roll bar now as been replaced with 10 point cage.

we are upping power, changing trans, completely new clutch program, etc. it should go upper 1.2x's on a good track now.

Nice if you dont mind me asking what sort of cam.head.intake.compression.tq converter. are you running? I see you have 3.90 gears and a th350 Im assuming a 2.52 1st gear.

we use a ISKY mechanical roller cam ,lots of duration and lift , the heads are 220 pro action (RHS now) intake is Super Victor with a 1050 dominator , CR is 12.7 , torque converter is 5k stall , we use the 3.90's with 26"tall tires , we switch to 4.30 when we use 28" tires , we got best 60fts with 19 lbs on 26" drag radials and 14 lbs with 28" and et drags and the th350 is all stock but built with extra clutches and transbrake , and we leave at 3500 rpm.
here are some takes of the car leaving .

Best 60ft was in 2014 1.32 with the rear tires. Ls427 w. procharger F2, Th400 and 12bolt axle 3,70. Spohn ta, lca, relocationbrackets, pa, k-member. Lakewood 50/50 rear and spohn coilovers on Koni spa-1 in front.
Et 1/8 5.88 118mph. Et 1/4 9.20 149mph. 3500lbs. M/T radial pros 275/60-15

Since 2014 the car has been in the garage but this season I made a comeback. We got a new race here in Sweden based on your Dragweek but its called Street Week. 1/8 racing on unprepped airfields and some small dragstrips. about 1000 street miles between the races.
It was pretty bad traction and best 60ft of the week was 1.45. Best et 5,93 123mph.

We ended up second place in the second biggest class so we were happy. Would be fun to put it on a real track but I dont think Im going to have time for that this season.

Re: Post Your 60ft with Suspension Setup

I thought I'd update my new best 60 foot time. 1.47. Same suspension as I listed before just a new cam, converter, gear, and heads. On the best 60 foot I had the wrong chip in so ran out of room when the rev limiter came in. Much better the next pass. And the first pass 10.94.. was really rich.
