kirkey racing seats
anyone have any pics of how they mounted kirkey racing seats in the car? i picked up a pro-street last night and i'm going to tackle the mount soon. i know that Racecraft offers a mounting solution, but i don't want to shell out the coil after dropping $200 on a seat last night. i can fab one, but need some ideas of what to start with.
thanks guys!

Re: kirkey racing seats
last set I helped someone on we just bolted them to the floor in the rear and made up some mounts for the front. They're not comfortable unless you lay them back somewhat, otherwise it's like an ejection seat you sit up so straight. Just got some racecraft dzus rails for this guys car and they're quality, so I assume the seat mounts would be the same.

try it out, if not make some brackets up or buy some premade that are nice. In these cars with a 10 point roll bar you need more head room

Re: kirkey racing seats
For a street car though you need good visibility which a real low seat wont provide.

Re: kirkey racing seats
I've got a poly seat. It sits back farther than a normal seat. I fabricated some mounting brackets and like mentioned above, it's tilted backwards but doesn't sit right on the floor. Putting it on the floor makes it difficult to install a crotch belt.
With a full cage and wearing a helmet, tilting the seat make might look strange but it really helps with head clearance. Once I'm in the car, I don't even notice the backward tilt. I don't have to drive on the street so visibility only needs to be straight down the track.

Re: kirkey racing seats
ok, i set the seat in the car on top of the studs and took a seat...it's lower than i want it to be. so i bit the bullet and bought the Racecraft seat brackets. i'll be outta town nearly all next week, so if anyone could post pics of the racecraft brackets installed that'd be cool.

Re: kirkey racing seats
The lean back is definitely the most important part. - Lots of ways to mount them, the more solid, the better.
Mine is flat on the floor in the back and raised up about 1"-1.5" in the front. - my floor is not at stock height though.

go to EdQuay.com and buy the adjustable seat mount kit for the Kirkey. I have it in mine and it sits perfect. It bolts right back to the factory studs.

Matt looks good. Quick question where is your door bar foam? I know I saw pics when you had it before. Just noticed the bars getting a little scratched up and thats why I definitly put mine right on there. Either way the seat looks good in there. How much of a weight savings was it ?

haha, i've been down by the car both last weekend and this weekend and it slipped my mind completely both times. seems to be happening a lot lately actually. i forgot my new aerocatches when i was heading down today so that didn't happen, then forgot my micrometer on the way back up for another project.
i will get pics soon.

Re: kirkey racing seats
I have Kirkey seats in my race cars.
After you have it installed consider adding a bead seat liner custom molded to you.
With a bead seat liner your body and senses will have full contact with the seat and car, resulting in better feadback and improved car control.
A proper fitting seat is important, or else we would all be sitting on bench seats at the track.

Re: kirkey racing seats
Before I installed a bead seat I would buy a HANS device.
Hans imho is not overkill either.
You would not race with an oversize helmet, so why race with an oversize seat?
imho a seat correctly fitted to a driver is a plus,
with respect to car control and driver safety in all motorsports.

Re: kirkey racing seats
one of the other things i see left out of alot of cars, is the seat back support. they just bolt in seats and go. the seat back support ($98ea) driver pasgr side. keeps the seat from flexing. and adds to the car feedback ya get.
they bolt on to the cross bar. on your rollbar. i left mine out.for a long time. as my stock seats sit back on the cross bar. but have now installed them with the recaro profi seats. (upper support for the recaros) fully adjustable for all drivers.

Re: kirkey racing seats
ya there is alot of parts ya can make. i picked up a steel one.then made copys out of alum.. saving a few lbs.and looks good polished! also added rubber face to the seat back supports. so not to mark the seats..got to always look good.
this is a better shot. below

Re: kirkey racing seats
get them down low
this set of GM Rails lay flat on the floor and only sit's up 1" in the back. and are fully adjustable.
and 100% bolt in.
sitting just 2" lower the the stock camaro seats (note: tryn out a few dff seats)
have seen them used to mount the kirkey seats before

What GM rails are you using and do you have a part number for the Recaro brackets? Did you ever mount Kirkey's to them?

Re: kirkey racing seats
they are Fiero brackets. 100% bolt in. dropping your GM seats down 2". My Recaro profi seats had the part # for the rails.. you can get them by going to the recaro site.
once bolted to the seats.. add your cross straps 1/8 to 1/4" thick 1 1/4"wide cut to length. they when set up are bolted to the fiero seat rails see above pics weld tabs.. to bolt to rails..and your done. bolt in.

Re: kirkey racing seats
don't see the rails listed?.... when I did my seats I just checked off what brackets I wanted..(Recaro brackets)
the rails are GM made low sliders..i just made a bracket that lets me put them on a low set of GM rails..
as I wanted them to look like something GM would install.. the same can be done with kirkey seat brakets..to GM low rails..
the low rails/sliders are from a Pontiac Fiero.. 100% bolt in..they look just like the Camaro seat sliders..just 2" lower in back and 1" lower in front.. I have 3 sets on diff aftermarket seats...this drops the aftermarket seats down for us guys who are tall..im 6'4".then you have your seat back supports.. mine bolts to the cross bar..and is adjustable to the seat. sliding forward or back. adjustments made w/allen wrench...nobody but me will be driving so.. the only seat that needs to be moved..would be the passenger. but it could be..

Re: kirkey racing seats
So is this using stock GM fiero rails, or is this using recro rails made for the fiero? Are both the driver and passenger direct bolt ins?

Re: kirkey racing seats
the fiero rails bolt right into Camaros.. Carmaro seats bolt to Fiero Rails.. together they drop the seats down 2".. after install it looks like GM put them in the camaro…(had to drill a small hole in the front brackets.. to fit the Black plastic covers.)see pics above..
the Recaro Brackets bolt to the Fiero Rails..(made to fit) by doing this it drops the seats down.. the rails can be used on any seat to drop the seat down..im doing a 2nd set for Kirkey seats..can then swap seats out just by the 4 bolts that hold them to the floor...
