Re: Camaro road race car.

The Camaro is for sale.
We plan to run it a few times this year at Laguna Seca and Coronado.
Anyone looking for a car to run in the GTP/GTO run group at the Monterey Reunion?

Your credit is good with me.
Wayne aka Zed/28 is big part of our team.
His help with race prep in our shop and photography at the track made this race car experience even more enjoyable.
The photo in the above ad was taken by Wayne.
Funny we met on this board but we only live 5 minutes apart.
A heartfelt thank you to Wayne for all his time and effort!
You should be racing this car!

rb85TA thank you.
Agree they do make good looking race cars.
I was thinking the same thing in this video as I was following the Duracell 3rd gen Camaro at Sonoma.

At the Monterey Reunion it is an exciting line up of cars in this race group.

"From Group C Porsche 962s to the wild screaming rotary powered Mazda GTP cars Group 6B featured some of the wildest cars of the weekend. The GTO class was well represented with Roush Mercury Capris and Ford Mustangs".
Photos of the cars in the group.

Re: Camaro road race car.

Dscott couple answers..
Also included some original photos and a few of the 30 chassis build blueprints.
These were provided to me recently from Jerry Kuhn the original builder/racer/owner of the car.

1. That video was qualifying, we were just in a pack trading positions basically having a good time.
I was following and trying to learn the sections where I needed to improve.

2. Yes it's for sale.
It's been a great adventure finding the car and sleuthing for all the history on it.
The first year was mostly cosmetic restoration and the 2nd year was fine tuning it's suspension.
The first 2 years we learned a lot.
We got the car set up so it is competitive and fun to race with the cars in our Vintage Trans Am/Imsa GTO group.

I plan to take the car to Laguna Seca end of May with HMSA.
Just had the engine completely rebuilt so its ready to race.
Tuned the rebuilt engine on the dyno, made the same power as before.

3. Racing this car at the Monterey August Pre-Reunion(s) and the Reunion(s) without a doubt check off one bucket list item.
Time to give someone else a chance to enjoy the fun challenge of running/racing with Vintage GTP and GTO cars at the Monterey Reunion.

Included a crowded garage photo of some of our other car projects.
Need to find time to race the 4th gen Pancho Weaver built Camaro and the blue 911 RSR too.
Yellow Z28 Camaro is ready for some attention too.

I'll try to get some video end of May at Laguna Seca.
Looking forward to racing my buddy with his ex Hans Stuck 962.

Pass - wow looks like you have lots in that shop to keep you busy. Earlier you were saying a tire supplier for the Camaro was up in the air. Did that get sorted out? Not being able to get tires could spoil everyones fun...

Still true, since then Avon stepped up with bias slicks, and Hoosier also has bias slicks available.
Hoosier supplies the radial slicks for the current Trans AM series.
Prepping the Camaro on the lift for Laguna Seca next month.

Is Monterey in August its last run, or will you still be taking it out at Coronado in September? Would love to see it and photograph it.

Also, love the BBS Turbofans.

Fresh race car, turn key ready to race, with great history and good spares.

Photo of one of my favorite places on Laguna Seca.

If the morning clouds on the horizon had burned off you would be looking at the Pacific Ocean.

Awesome!

What days will you be running at Coronado?

Also, what days will you be running at Monterey? I might be able to get up there now, and would try to pick the day we head to Laguna Seca as the day your car is out running or at least available to view.

Coronado twice on Saturday and twice on Sunday.
Saturday afternoon qualifying should be fun.
If I have a buyer we may skip the Sunday race.

We won't be at Monterey, did not enter this year.
They do have an impressive line up in the Group 5b GTP/GTO race group.
They run Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.
Can Am is running this year too!

Awesome drop in for some shade and bench racing in our pit area.
Car is ready, trailer detailed, packing for the race today.

Here is the schedule for the weekend.
We run basically at 11 and 4 both days.
They combined our group 10b with group 12.
Group 12 has a few little giant killers such as Jeff Klein (yellow Ginetta G-4), Jimmy B. in the RSR, and Chad P. in the ST.
The short track suits light and low hp race cars, should be a damn good race.....

Schedule.
http://www.svra.com/wp-content/uploa...l-Schedule.pdf

Entries, A couple 3rd gen Camaros and Firebird too in 10b.
http://www.svra.com/wp-content/uploa...t-by-group.pdf

Last time at Coronado.

Awesome, and thank you!

Do you know if a pit or paddock pass is required? I'm able to get in to the race for free, can't seem to get through on the phone to inquire about a pit pass.

It was nice meeting you - thanks for your hospitality and welcome, and thanks for bringing the car out for us to see! I couldn't stay the full day - I had two little ones in tow, and they can only take so much time at a race track before they need playgrounds, snacks and naps. We were there from open until about 1.

I've been posting some pictures to my instagram, here's a few that went up so far (these are after Instagram compressed them down to 1080):

Race Prep:

Infield:

I took a bunch of your car, wish I could buy it! Tell the next few owners to take good care of it for me.

Now, if you're selling four front BBS wheels separately...

Re: Camaro road race car.

Kurt nice to meet you!
We had a fun weekend.
TQ Saturday morning.
Started on pole Saturday afternoon and on the 2nd lap the battery failed.
Old Optima, its always on the charger all day at the track.
New battery installed started last on Sunday morning.
Finished second. Here's that video.

Big thanks to Wayne aka Zed/28 for all his help before and at the the race!
Wayne inside the passenger window, John in the drivers window and Duane standing behind the car.
Great help this weekend, lots fun.

For the final race started outside front row, and finished first.

Re: Camaro road race car.

Enjoyed a fun session with Gordon's black Oldsmobile.

A race on the coast is a nice relief from the hot desert tracks common in the south west.
The large round green roof restaurant in the background offers stud horse Mai Tai's.

Thank you!
The Camaro auction did not meet reserve but the photos, videos and documentation survive just a click away in the BaT archives.
Very happy with BaT and those that commented, thank you.

Very happy with my amateur marketing of this car.
Part of the ownership experience.

If it doesn't sell, will you be at Laguna Seca anytime soon? Would love to see it again...

Also, have any spare BBS centers or wheels for sale that can be built to a street spec?

Hi Kurt yes we plan to continue to run it at HMSA events on the west coast.
https://www.hmsausa.com/
It is a great car and has brought us much success and enjoyment.
Last year the Can Am cars were invited to run at the Long Beach Grand Prix.
If the GTO group were invited I would be thrilled to run on the streets of Long Beach again like it did back in 88 and 89.

The Camaro was accepted to 2017 Reunion in August at Laguna but life got in the way and I had to decline.
This August there will be a huge GTO field with 35 cars in their own run group.
I plan to be there for Pre Reunion only to hang out with my team mate Ken and his Gloy Capri.
Ken should be in the top 5 in the GTO group.
Check out his start at Sonoma, 2nd row to lead before the first turn.

I do have a close friend with a historic 962 that should be ready for an HMSA test day in spring at Laguna.
If so I'd tag along with the Camaro and track it just to hang out with friends and get some laps at Laguna.
These are the newer style BBS lobster fork centers.

I need some BBS centers too for a second set of wheels for our 93 Camaro GTO car.
I was looking last year for a while with no luck.
You know there must be 50 race shops in the country with those centers collecting dust on a shelf.
Last I checked BBS does not make the basket weave centers anymore.
BBS had only the newer style BBS lobster fork centers.
Very nice but not vintage looking.

This fall after the desert tracks cool down we plan to run the newer Camaro at Big Willow maybe with West Coast racing.
Just a fun low key event with up to 5 run sessions a day.

Still very busy with the car hobby.
We just finished a 2 year restoration on my old daily driver work car, an 86 911.

Thank you this 3rd gen is done and ready to race.

This year I've had a few bids on the Camaro...
the last bid was very close to our selling price.
So it sits proudly on jack stands in our San Diego shop,,,
we wiped off the car and left the rubber marks from our win last race.

I'd consider a 2019 Laguna Seca springtime sound free event for some fun track time.
I will enter the Reunion next year and race.
My team mate Ken was racing at Reunion in the MTI orange Capri and finished 4th.

Re: Camaro road race car.

It's 2018 time to go racing.
We feel very fortunate that the 10 has been accepted to 3 sound free race weekends at Laguna Seca this year.

Next race is the Spring Fling at Laguna Seca.
http://www.weathertechraceway.com/sp...-nitro-revival

The Camaro was also accepted for the 4th time to the Monterey Pre-Reunion
http://www.weathertechraceway.com/monterey-pre-reunion

and the Reunion race weekend too.
http://www.weathertechraceway.com/ro...sports-reunion

The 10 needs nothing since it finished first 9/16 at the last race at Coronado.
The 10 is for sale, it has given us some very special experiences with team mates, friends and competitors.
It is a joy to race, good power with great handling and reliability.
Drop in our pits at Laguna Seca and check it out or just visit and and bench race with us.
Thanks to Zed28 aka Wayne for the great photos and memories!

Fun weekend with all types of cars at Laguna Seca the other weekend.
The IMSA Camaro handled perfectly and the brakes were best ever.
No video forgot to turn on the go pro.

Re: Camaro road race car.

fyi The #10 current dyno sheet and gear chart.
Last time at Laguna Seca installed a shorter 3rd gear.
Now we can use 3rd off all corners at Laguna Seca.
Down to 2nd only in turn 2 when there is traffic.
Use 5th gear on the front straight and climbing the back straight.

Re: Camaro road race car.

Next race Pre reunion and Reunion in a couple weeks and the Camaro is ready.
We spent a day at the Weisman factory where we rebuilt the transmission, new Howe radiator, new Tilton rear end pump, one new fuel pump and a few new fuel lines.
Fyi Weisman transmission equipped cars won 4 Indy 500s in the 70s and 2 F1 championships in the 80s.

Off soon to Laguna Seca for two weekends of Historic racing.
Join us for bench racing, some shade and a seat if you're in the Pre-reunion or Reunion pits.
