Wow. A lot of work there dude.
I give you credit, you're working hard all the time on that car.
The question is...will you be at Cecil this Saturday? ;-)

i got a LOT done today. unfortunately i didn't get many pictures because i was staying so busy. i'll try to get some tomorrow as i'll be down by the car again.
i was able to pull ~ 60bs out of the car today. 31lbs in this pile:
these are all bars from the roll bar that i put in cause they looked cool. they had no other structural purpose, lol. the roll bar is now as basic as it can be with just 5 pts. i also painted the bar with hammertone paint. overall i'm happy with it. i brushed it on with a foam brush and it ran in a couple spots i got over zealous with. i'll try to get some pictures of it tomorrow.
i also spent a little time and whipped up some plexiglass headlight covers. i'm going to make a grill cover next weekend i think.
overall i'm pretty pleased with the project made today.

Re: Winter 2013/2014 drag race suspension overhaul!
today was not a work day, but i went down to where the car was for a baby shower so i figured i'd take a couple of pictures of what i accomplished yesterday since the sun went down on me before i could take pictures.
don't mind the lack of rear carpet or the scratches on the interior plastics as this thing is an ever going project. i'm going to try to either repaint my interior plastics, or come upon some decent black plastcis. also going to redo the rear carpet in ozite like we did my cousins car. next week i am going to make a dzus rail for the front of the hood, so hopefully that will tighten up the hood gap. i also have a handful of other small projects that need to get tied up to be ready for the MM meet on 4/13.

No, I started one. Then I decided not to post anymore about what I was doing. Too many opinions. It gets really old, plus it's not my style. But I'll send you whatever you need to know.

Re: Winter 2013/2014 drag race suspension overhaul!
This was probably one of the best "first outings of the season" we have had in a long time. without breaking down play-by-play too much, here's a few details of the day. DA was 14-1600' all day.
Pass#1-#2 were complete garbage. the trans didn't want to go into 3rd. it wasn't a driver thing either as i was hitting the gate. it was like i was hitting a wall. we rebled the clutch hydraulics and it seemed to cure it.
Pass #3 was an easy pass to make sure things went ok. clicked off a soft 11.03 @ 127 (whoa mph, lol)
pass #4 i got to business. 10.81 @ 128.8 on a 1.53 sixty. i slipped the clutch this time instead of dumping and that really seemed to calm things down at the hit.
Pass #5 was the best of all time. everything lined up pretty good. here's the slip:
in case the link goes dead, here's the run down:
R/T: -.038
60': 1.498
330': 4.489
1/8: 6.925
MPH: 101.86
1000': 8.999
1/4: 10.743
MPH: 130.03
"Dat MPH Doe" whew it was a rocket ship on the big end.
Pass #6 was on a stroll. i missed 4th right before the 1/8 and coasted through at 6.90 @ 97 so i know it was on a mission. more seat time and better air will come soon. taking 5 months off between racing made me kinda forget how to drive, lol.
pics and vids

As always Matt your car looks badass and the thing is running great! I love the in car video too. Sounds awesome and your definitely getting it done rowing those gears for having some time off. Keep up the hard work and I look forward to some future updates.

Nice pass.

yup! my cousins car and i made several passes together. for sure, my car drives real easy and straight for the most part. i'm not sure i'd want to take my hand off the shifter though as quickly as it gets shifted, lol

Re: Winter 2013/2014 drag race suspension overhaul!
I sent out an APB on borrowing a larger carb a couple weeks ago. Jason Smith from PA Racing stepped up and sent me this guy:
it is ~900 cfm. i pulled it apart to look at jets, powervalves, squirters, air bleeds, etc. i won't go into details about what's in it cause it's a custom carb for someone else. just doesn't seem right to divulge that info, but i needed it to see what the baseline was.
i will say, that it's calibrated much more conservatively than i figured. it also has some holes drilled in the butterflies, which really cleaned up the idle, but i think the holes are too big, or too many (1 in each butterfly) thus my idle won't go lower than 1500 now, lol. but it gives me some ideas for my new carb.
yesterday we were working on some other things around the house and had to take a load of yard waste to the dump. That reminded us that the county recycle center has a set of scales. off the trailer the cars came, i put the new carb on and made some adjustments, and off to the scales we went.
we were rewarded with some awesome numbers too. his car weighs 3220 with him in the car, that's ~2970 without him. he was running over a 1/2 tank of fuel and we still have one door to gut. pretty sure he could be at 3200 or less with just a few things here and there. if he went to real drag brakes, aluminum heads, tubular k-member, etc etc etc i could see it being sub 3000.
my car weighed in at 3260 with me in the car, which means it's ~2985 without me. i too was running over a 1/2 tank and i still need to gut both doors. me personally, i'm down 40lbs and have another ~50 i want to to lose. with drag brakes and an aluminum center section and a little bit more trimming here and there, another 100lbs out of the car should be possible as well.
the trip was about 10-15 miles round trip. both cars acted basically like any stock car would. chucky reported 200-210 coolant temps and never got over 3000 rpm, even when running 65-70. i thought that was great considering the car is running a 35gpm electric water pump. my car crept up to 195 when we were waiting in line at the scales, but was 175-180 cruising. i saw the oil temps rise on mine to 180ish, but nothing to be alarmed about. i LOVE cruising

Re: Winter 2013/2014 drag race suspension overhaul!
thanks guys! we worked hard to get these two to "tin-can" status. not quiet there yet, but getting closer.
i think i'm realizing that what little bit i have left to cut out of the car will probably be the end of what i do, at least till next winter. i have big plans in my head, but each of them are pricey.
aluminum rear center section...even with picking up quality innexpensive pieces from Quick Performance and doing all the assembly myself i'm still looking at $850+
front and rear brakes are $1100+, even with a hookup
new wheels are $1600+ new tires another $800
i want to make some forward swept headers with big stepped primaries and a merge collector with fender exits...that's like $1000
a new carb is easily $850+ i'm interested to see how this borrowed carb does but once i send it back i'm gonna probably have to wait a while before i can get another one.
ugh...i think where i'm at right now, if i back the shift point down to 6500ish, i can run 10.90's at 127ish all day and enjoy the car. i would rather race the car and have a good time than to continue to stress about coming up with funds for more go-fast goodies. i need rear brakes first and foremost. i'll start collecting pieces here and there as things get prioritized.

matt i'm with you on just "enjoying" the car for the season. i missed out on a bunch of stuff last summer, due to go-fast building.
ls1 brakes and new exhaust are next winter's to-list for me...then it will be on to wheels and tires if i can fit it in the budget. it's amazing how fast these parts add up! it's unreal what carbs run these days, even the 2bl carbs we run on the stock cars are getting out of hand.

I also like your 4th gen dash conversion, there is lots of room for gages.

lol..its a hobby to enjoy. thats for sure...and the best part is living in bracket 1. with a car that dont look like a race car! (from 50 feet away)..
even unloading at a drive in 4 blocks from the strip..and driving to the track...
it's all about the Game!..hate the game..not the playa!

thanks, and yup! lots of room for gauges. it's nearly a bolt-off, bolt-on affair. gotta make clearance on the side brackets that are attached to the car for the factory dash. that's about it. it's like anything though, gotta take your time and do a couple mockup installs to get it how you like it.

For now I installed the 140 MPH OEM speedo with 8 grand tach gage cluster.
LOL talk about mocking up, half the bulbs were burnt out and the needles were faded on the 140 cluster, so I swapped all the pieces from my 120 MPH cluster (which has been garage kept since 1994) I also swapped the lenses.
Silly details but it looks great!
If I ever go faster than 140, I think your 4th gen swap is the way to go ! Although the 3rd gen dash does lend itself to a really good gage layout, provided you start from scratch. I can always have a gage mounting plate water jetted LOL !

Re: Winter 2013/2014 drag race suspension overhaul!
Had a great day yesterday! almost didn't go cause of the threat of rain. glad i did. seems the car really responded well to the larger carb. it only picked up about 1 mph, it went 130.9 fastest yesterday, 130.03 fastest last time out, but it did seem to help the first 330' feet. passes went like this: 10.77, 10.63, 10.56, 10.66 (ran it at 20* more h2o water temp, didn't like that), 10.61 (on the brakes, first round win), 10.57 second round with a -.006 redlight.
this thing just keeps getting more awesome, lol. it got a ton of attention yesterday too. pictures and videos:

interesting observations from saturday. 1, i'm crushing the little 3053S. pretty sure a move to the new 3054ST is going to be in the future. 2, the car spins on the 1-2 shift...about 10' worth. hoping the solution to number 1 will also aid in number 2.

Good eye. I may have to pick your brain on setting up my suspension once I get to the track.
