Car: 89 RS 89 iroc 87 firebird
Engine: 3.1 Turbo/ 355 twin turbo

almost ready for the 2014 season
cars come along way but still have a bit of stuff to do before its ready
last year the car was running a stockish 4 bolt truck engine with the tpi and twin gt3076 turbos + a small shot of nitrous
begining of winter i tore the car down due to a blown out freeze plug
the plan was to put new freeze plugs in it work the tpi a lil bit and call it good
turns out the bronze valve guides in the heads were well past wiped out so it prompted a whole new build
9.3-1 cr
summit 224/224 cam for now ( switching to roller cam down the road)
forged i beams
speedpro -10 cc dished piston
64cc 200 cc runner heads 297cfm @ .600
stealth ram intake
120# injectors
twin gt3582 turbos
nx mainline direct port nitrous kit setup for 100 shot
alls thats left is to get the oil pan on the engine and finish up the front accesories , plumb the nitrous , and fuel system
on the car side of things i still need to get the cage installed , and get the body painted , and last but not least i need to get a drive shaft made for the new trans
plan is to hopefully get the car out to las vegas speedway end of april or first week in may

Not sure yet engine should make around 425hp n/a. The way it's setup. 18psi should be getting me close to 1k crank

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
it should be ok turbos are pretty soft on parts , been a bunch of ppl making very close to 1k on them , ive had the crank preped the best i could for what it is .its been cut .010/.010 and the larges fillets they could fit
i think the biggest thing thats going to hurt that crank is if i lean on the nitrous tune , engine is setup with a direct port system im jetting for 100 shot , but can take it all the way to 5-or 600 with the kit i have though i never will , on the street when i run low boost i may jet it up for a 150 shot
if i break it im going to try a howards forged crank

lol yup only thing i was supposed to do was replace the blown out freeze plug and swap cams
ended up replacing everything , only left from the original engine is the block, and thats cause that block was in better shap then the other one i had

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
hit a snag with getting the motor in the car , the plan was to reuse my old turbo system till after the car gets painted and ten swap over to the new headers and gt3582's
well my old headers no longer fit as u can see in the pics , i need to cut the wastegate tubes and move them , not a big deal but we had no gas for the welder.
so next weekend i will fix the headers and drop the engine in , and also build the parachute mount
work may slow down on the car though now that i have a 2 wheeled transportation

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
well engine is complete and wraped back up in the engine bag , car is also in the shop and i will be taking time off of work to complete it , first order of busniness is to rip out the old hacked up harness i bought and completly rewire the car and the standalone ecm to make it much neater and more professional looking
once i rip out the old harness i will strip the engine bay and paint it with the chassi black paint i picked up the install the engine and finish the rewiring
the goal is to have the car running and ready to go by next weekend

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
well it runs but motor and trans are coming back out , something is squealing something awful and i cant pinpoint if its coming from the engine or trans
engine has rock steady oil presure and revs good , the trans is a fresh built th400
i was thinking about throwing the 700r4 back in it before i pull everything to see if it goes away

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
i havent decided if im going to drill valve covers for pcv and breather system or run a vacuum pump yet , right now im leaning twards a vacuum pump.
im deffintly going to weld in an screw on oil fill cap so i dont have to pull a valve cover to put oil in it , ill prolly do that when i pull the valve covers to swap in adjustable guide plates .
i didnt realize the intake valve is moved from the stock location on these heads , the standard guide plates work but the rockers arent perfectly centered like i would like them to be even though the lil bit is off would be just fine

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
the tubing is pretty thick actually , im putting 90's on the collector outlets and mounting the turbos on them , this will give me the clearance i need for the dual 3.5 inch downpipes
i will probably make braces that bolt off the accesory mounting holes in the heads, though the gt3582's are prolly lite enough i could hang them off the headers without brackets

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
ok well couple more days and she will be street worthy again
anyways heres whats going on , i need to rework the up and fowards i built just a lil built
im very pleased with them as i could run dual 4 inch downpipes with tons of clearance , but instead of the twin gt3582's i think im going to pick up something like a single 88 mm turbo to use with the up and fowards
so for the time being i cleaned up the log headers and cut the old wastegate stands off since they hit the new valve covers , i think im just going to make new wastegate stands on 45* angles which will make everything clear again
as u can see in this picture the flange on the turbine housing also hit the valve cover so i took a grinder to it to get it to clear
on the todo list is to figure out were to mount the new afpr and run the new fuel lines
adapt the s10 heater box fan wiring to the stock f-body wiring
swap the power steering box out for a manual box
move the intercooler out fowards after cutting the crash bar
wire up the new megasquirt harness
other then that i have some areo mods im doing on the car ive got a custom rear diffuser on the way along with a front splitter

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
so my new hood arrived today
this is my fist steel amd hood and i love it , look sso much better then the harwood hoods
the downside is mine arrived damaged as u can see below
but big thumbs up to summit racing , no questions asked and they sent out a new hood by the time i was off the phone with them , should be here by friday as the replacement is comming from nv instead of ohio , why they didnt just ship it from nv to begin with is beyond me though
and closeups of the damage

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
figured id update this before i head to bed
i got the headers modified and installed for the last time, turbos are also bolted on for the last time
downpipes need to be modified to fit past the new wastegate placement
got the oil presure and fuel presure gauges mounted up
also picked up a massive intercooler out of a diesel , lets just say it takes up the entire front of the car ,makes my 12x32x4 intercooler look small
i also rewired the fuel pumps
pump #1 is on with the key
pump #2 and pump #3 are both ecm controlled and are triggered by boost presure
my antilag/launchcontrol switch has been moved from a toggle to the factory hatch release switch ( no more toggles in the car for anything , so besides some gauges in the car when u look inside it there wont be anything to really give away whats under the hood
on the todo list is weld in a bung for the trans temp sending unit so i can datalog trans temp
modify downpipes
fit the new intercooler
and install the correct spark plugs ones i have now are way to hot
down the road i will be switching to a sequential injection , and cop ignition system
im hoping to be driving the car by wensday or thursday at the latest

my antilag/launchcontrol switch has been moved from a toggle to the factory hatch release switch ( no more toggles in the car for anything , so besides some gauges in the car when u look inside it there wont be anything to really give away whats under the hood
on the todo list is weld in a bung for the trans temp sending unit so i can datalog trans temp
modify downpipes
fit the new intercooler
and install the correct spark plugs ones i have now are way to hot
down the road i will be switching to a sequential injection , and cop ignition system
im hoping to be driving the car by wensday or thursday at the latest

car will be back on the road this weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!
i picked up the last few parts i needed yesterday.
holy crap 31$'s for a bottle of gm e.o.s from the dealer ,ill tell ya what that crap has gotten expensive , so after the next oil change ill switch to royal purple or some other oil that has the zinc in it
also picked up the right heat range spark plugs
up and fowards are for sale they are currently only tacked together so i can change the collector and put whatever flange u want on it for the buyer

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
anyways my car is back on the ground and running. i had some video but after we finished the car we took the dirtbikes out and of course i mounted up my video camera , near the end of the ride we go for a hill climb , buddy makes it no problem on his 450 ,so me and my other buddy look at each other and i gun it , get about halfway up and get into the loose stuff and took a hard hit . they said i was out for about a min .
anyways the hit destroyed my brand new video camera
heres a few pics i took with my cell gota get the pics took with his camera from the top of the mountians and post those up ,
had to give the car and the bikes a bath , its resting place is no longer on the lift yay
the dark lumps are pieces of gravel i had to dig out of my arm
lol lot of my right side looks the same
going out on monday to do it again!!!!!!!!!!

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
shes comming home this weekend
last thing to do is decide if i want to do a diy 8.8 rear or just go for broke and attempt a diy dana 60
i have a pretty good idea how to machine the dana 60 housing so i can setup a tq arm mount , but i need to figure out the whole cost of building my own housing versus buying one before i attempt it

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
i know i keep saying it but this wekend it should be done , every weekend for the past few weeks ive gone out riding instead of working on the car.
well last weekend i broke 2 fingers so i doubt im going riding this weekend.should be headed over in a few hours to go finish up the car , only thing left to do is cut 2 holes in the cowl of the hood for my oil and fuel presure gauges , notch the underside of the hood in one place for clearance , and remake the passenger side downpipe , when i tipped the wastegate mount over on the header it now crashes into the downpipe

Re: almost ready for the 2014 season
was going to bring the car home last night then relized i forgot to put the new plates on the car and turned back to swap the plates.
camera died on the drive home so only had this short clip to upload
for those of u who havent followed my thread in the pa section the old cam lost a couple of lobes so i had to tear it back down and clean it and swap to a tamer cam
