End of 2014 season

I havn't been on here to update what has been going on with my car in awhile. I really havn't changed much from earlier in the year when I posted that I had my best time on nitrous of 11.07.

Long story short, I retired the nitrous for the season to focus on bracket racing and have been doing some things to the car just to add consistency. Today was the last race I will be attending this year and I ended today with my fastest on motor pass which was a 11.56 at 116 mph. It was a good air day, however the car was running around 11.60's the last few races of the year.

Now, the very last pass I decided to hook up the nitrous again and make one more go at it. So, I make the last pass of the 2014 season, and the car has officially broke into the 10's, lol. The pass goes as follows...

60 ft...... 1.4448
330 ft.... 4.3708
1/8 ET.... 6.8031
1/8 mph.. 101.16
1000' ET... 8.9088
1000' mph.. 115.90
1/4 ET....... 10.69
1/4 mph .... 129.10

I was shocked, but I did have a couple of kinks I had worked out of it earlier in the year just never got around to trying it out. Anyway, it was a good end to the 2014 season, and some of you guys who have been following me for years will remember this car when I was hoping for 11.99. It has come along way to say the least, lol.

Lol, well it took me until the last few races to finally get the car dialed in. After the points season I had this year I have no room to talk about giving anyone advice, lol. Your suggestion on the high torque starter helped a bunch though! Hopefully next year we can all be up there in points and not have anyone break, lol.

Re: End of 2014 season

Good to hear about the starter, and yah hopefully all of your crew as well as mine can have a better year in points! I'm gonna be putting an afr gauge in mine (thanks to you) so I hopefully don't have to mess around with tuning all year, I play around too much and it definetly hurts my racing.

Re: End of 2014 season

I know what you mean. The air fuel gauge should help out a lot! Then once you get it dialed in, don't touch it! Lol. That's the hardest part. I always wanna change something which always hurts me in the consistency department. Trying to teach myself to leave it alone, lol.

Re: End of 2014 season

Nice job on bringing it around... it's allot of work to get a car that repeats and is predictable...

What's weight and rest of the combo?

Thanks man! And the car weighs 3200 lbs with me in it. It's just a sbc 355 with stock vortec heads and a .520/.540 lift with 236/242 duration @ .050 cam, rpm air gap intake, 1 3/4 hooker super comp headers, th350 with a 4500 stall freakshow converter, moser 9 inch with 4.11 gear, 28x10.5 hoosier slicks, and mostly all of the rear suspension is spohn or founders, mostly all of the front is still stock. Then I have a NOS cheater plate with a 100 shot and that's really all I have in it( that I can remember to mention).

Re: End of 2014 season

That's damn good for that combo. Your where you should be.

Mines set up about the same way... but I'm too fat

same gear, tire, freakshow converter... I ran 11.56 with dart 215's, bigger cam and jr vic, at 3580# (the car is 3200, i'll let you do the math). I wish I could be that light. Time to hit the treadmill.

It was good to see ya out at the track this year too. Its always a nice day when you see so many 3rd gen cars at milan.

Re: End of 2014 season

Thanks a lot guys! And Mark, it was a good season and a lot of fun racing with you man!

Also, I do have a pretty large advantage in the driver side weight advantage. I am only 150, lol. Helps a lot in the speed category over buddies of mine, lol.

Re: End of 2014 season

Hey Greg, I was curious on what your opinion of a freak show converter is? Did the car pick up from it? Consistency problems ? Or anything of the sort? Debating whether to get one or blow the $1000 on a more reputable 8" converter

Re: End of 2014 season

Hey Joe, I like the freakshow converter a lot. I went from a 3500 stall to a 4500 stall when I switched to it so I did lose a little bit in the 60 foot but consistency picked back up. The freakshow was very consistent and I did end up picking up some speed from it too. The converter before the freakshow went a fastest of 11.71 on motor. The freakshow at the end of last year ran 11.56 on motor. Overall I would say it is definitely worth the money and I have no complaints with it. Hopefully you guys are having a productive off season. Look forward to seeing you guys soon!
