Proposed EPA regulations

Proposed EPA regulations
Hey guys. I still haven't quite made heads or tails of this, but the EPA is "clarifying" some regulations that might affect a good amount of track goers.
http://jalopnik.com/the-epas-crackdo...ned-1758111546
Before I go further - I've read some stigma against jalopnik on here before so I just thought I'd say that after reading quite a few of their articles they are fairly unbiased, common sense, car guys. (Heck, one of their writers is obsessed with XJ jeeps, doesn't get much more grass roots than that).
My concern is this - would this mean some EPA suit is going to be hanging out at the track and checking everyone's cars for emissions equipment?
The really confusing part is that this stuff about cars is hidden inside a regulation for medium and heavy duty trucks (go figure). Anyhow, give it a read.
Moderators - feel free to move this wherever.

Re: Proposed EPA regulations
it's getting a lot of press, so hopefully it'll be squashed before it gets passed and big brother has that much more hold on us.
if racecars are outlawed, only outlaws will have racecars, and you better believe that's a law i'm not going to abide by.

Around here, vehicles older than 26 years of age are exempt from any type of emissions inspection/testing.
you can use this guide to look them up by state.

I highly doubt, even if this does pass, they will have any way to enforce it on grandfathered vehicles.
Although, it sucks they need to pull this crap.

Yes, they aren't testing or performing regular inspections, but the equipment must remain installed. So even though you don't' have any inspections and so wont' fail one, you can still fail an impromptu inspection.
Chances of a random inspection are extremely slim, but they could still decide to do one while giving you a ticket for something else.
My car is registered a show/race car and has been exempt from inspections since before they discontinued the IL-240 roller test.
Still, this is a crap law. So I support squashing it.

Re: Proposed EPA regulations
It's no worse than the ban on leaded fuel in Canada. Very difficult to get or buy leaded race fuel. Banned for cars but the aviation industry is exempt and airplanes cause more than 95% of the lead pollution compared to all the performance vehicles. Yes there is unleaded race fuel but it not as good as the better leaded race fuel.
Doesn't bother me though. I run methanol.

Re: Proposed EPA regulations
i read somewhere that the EPA says that it is as simple as a "rewording" of the current law(didn't know there was an issue). after experiencing 1st hand the health care act (don't get me started), I can only imagine what they will **** up next. I can't see how the gov has anything to about what off road vehicle have to abide by. I guess CAT should be worried

Re: Proposed EPA regulations
Sign the petition but better yet contact your representative. Let them know that if he votes to turn your hobby and vehicle into a criminal act and you into a criminal that you will happily vote against him next election and you will advise all of your friends/family do the same.
Find out your representative and contact them here:

Re: Proposed EPA regulations
The EPA is barking up the wrong tree by alienating millions of US car enthusiast citizens with this type of "rewording". Extremely dumb move.

Re: Proposed EPA regulations
I agree with the rep part, but this has nothing to do with congress, it is a regulation so the EPA is doing this on thier own.
