slicks and gear ratio
been doing some pondering and research without finding much. want to hit the car a little harder on launch and was wondering. Im running a 28inch tall drag radial now because I need the height on the top end for the gears that im running. what I want to know is if the wrinkle from a slick will act like a 26 inch tire on launch then grow so I have my rpm range on the big end.

Re: slicks and gear ratio
Technically yes but really no. You need a lot of sidewall and very low tire pressure for a tire to grow dramatically. If you need a 28" tall tire then buy a 28" tall tire. I run a 32" tall tire with 9 psi of air pressure. I know how much clearance I have above the tread surface and I doubt they grow to 33". At least nothing indicates they grow very much.
The only time you "need" a DOT tire is if the class you're running in doesn't allow slicks. Then you use something like a drag radial, ET street etc to have a DOT sticky tire for the track.
Buy a second set of rims and mount slicks on them for track use only.

Re: slicks and gear ratio
Right was still planning on a 28 inch tall tire my question was does the wrinkle at the launch act like a shorter sidewall tire with gear ratio.
