Need some advice 1/8th mile times

First off I am still new to actually racing my car only 3rd time down the track and looking for any tips to better my times. I have a 87 Iroc L98 stock minus a cat back exhaust. I have replaced most of the ignition system; Accel cap, rotor, & ignition control module. MSD ignition coil and wires. Ac-Delco plugs Nothing special, but runs good.

So far my best time is 9.55 at 71.68 with a 60' of 2.172
9.6 at 72 mph is my best mph.

I'm not looking for a racecar just a semi-fast car. I would like to run low 9's if possible like 9.4 or better. Am I asking for to much or is this possible with current setup.

Thanks for any help

headers, cat delete, 2800 stall, 3.42/3.73's, drag radials, set base timing to 10* and it should jump into the 8.90 range or better without many issues.

Plans for car are headers, cam, mild port of intake/related parts, full 3inch into current cat back and tune. Maybe stall depending on budget.

Re: Need some advice 1/8th mile times

converter is more important than any of the other. it will have the biggest return on the dollar. gearing will too.

i need more information to tell you if your ET is in line. i'd like a full time slip and all weather conditions, as well as track location. at first glance, a 9.6 converts to ~14.98 1/4 mile, which is slow for an l98 car in my experience, but want to know all variables to be able to form a proper opinion.

Re: Need some advice 1/8th mile times

Bringing this back, I finally had a decent trip to the track. Same setup as mentioned above just better driving this time. Here is the best slip from trip out.

2.1267 60'
6.0965 330'
9.4076 1/8th
73.43 mph

Some extra info from that night
-134 DA(ft)
100.39 Relative Density (%)

This was leaving it in second gear instead of drive.

Almost exactly what my stock 91 z28 LB9 Auto with 2.73 gears ran. It was stock except for smog delete, aftermarket chip, and 3in exhaust
