Re: Mechanics on Oahu
Having lived on Oahu for more than 30 years, I will say it's difficult to find quality mechanics to work on our TPI cars. One guy I can recommend is John Pinero, owner of Performance Auto Care Center, 94-485 Ukee St, Waipahu, HI 96797 (808-676-1077). John has owned and raced Camaros for many years. He's a Corvette enthusiast and has quite a few classic cars and hot rods. Tell him Ed, the guy who retired from the Army with the red Z28 sent you. BTW, if you have a military ID the salvage yard at Schofield Barracks is a good place to pickup parts.

Gosh, that's too bad, it was a great resource for gearheads. There was also a salvage yard at Fort Shafter Flats, but I guess that closed too... Well, at least there's lots of pick-a-parts out here in SoCal.

Re: Mechanics on Oahu
Dose anyone know of a good place to get rust repaired on oahu? I have a 89 Trans am convertible and the trunk lid is starting to rust out. I would replace it but they are hard to come by. Thanks

Re: Mechanics on Oahu
Any body shop around can do so, but finding one that will do the job at the price you want might be difficult. If the rust is surface only, why not do it yourself? Or browse through Craigslist for someone who will come to you. One thing I can tell you about living in Hawaii - cars rust pretty fast, and that goes double if you live on the windward side where the salt air blows directly onto cars.

John's shop wasn't doing head work when I was going there, but I'm sure he could recommend people or machine shops that would. I'd also recommend getting to know the local cruiser hot rod guys who hang out at Bob's Big Boy in Kalihi, I think they have a big gathering there once a month.
