The 400 did cost a bit but you don't live forever. The nitrous is a great option if you are careful. I just used a second hand Cheater kit and jetted the fuel down a bit (the recommended jets are very rich). I had a full throttle switch so I could pedal the car without worry. Nitrous is getting expensive now though, in the end I think a blower would be the answer.

I got the 700R4 rebuilt at Aceomatic in Stanmore Road, they used stronger parts, corvette servo and the Transgo shift kit, it cost quite a bit but I'm hoping it will hold up. I'm not confident about the rear end though, I don't think it will last long.

Debating on whether to put my T56 in or just leave it Auto. It's great to jump in the Cruiser & not have to worry about changing gears. Cheers Ppl.

Just out of Curiosity there fellow Kiw's. Did You's see the LS 350 engine for sale on TradeMe?. Ppl i have one of these in my Corvette, & they go real hard. The engine on TradeMe looks like it had been converted to Carb & pulls 6500RPM. @ $5000, i thought that was pretty good.

Yeah me 50 this year

I think the choice has more to do with what your final use for the vehicle is going to be,

Road race/general sports car duties I would say the t56 is the one to use.
If, like me you have a bit of drag racing in your future then my thoughts would be get the auto.

Correct me if I am wrong but in the time you spend clutching and changing gear with a manual wouldn't a well set up auto have gained you a tenth or two down the 1/4?

I don't know about the T56's (never had one) but thinking back to the Muncies and Ford top-loaders of my day, they were clunky slow changing things.

Of course if as gunny says, your a tired old bastard then auto all the way LOL

Re: Calling all KIWI'S

Hi Guys, are there any places in NZ that specialise in performance parts for third gens? I mean specific parts like K-members and brake upgrades that sort of thing, not engines parts which are ubiquitous. I usually import most stuff but big things are expensive.

Cheers

I don't think so mate.

I have to import virtually everything for mine except generic stuff like sbc engine parts etc. NZ suppliers are hugely expensive so I get most my stuff from Summit or Ebay.

Re: Calling all KIWI'S

What are people's main warrant problems? I've had questions asked about the seats not locking in place, the old brake light blinking with the turn signal thing, the crosshatch stitching on the rear seat belts, plus one station complaining that my nitrous system was a permanent power adder. The parking brake is always a hassle too (I have the rear disks).

I love the look of those QF carbs, especially the anodising.

Mines a QF670 vac sec.

I start my engine build soon, now that harvest is over.

Re: Calling all KIWI'S

Hey Guys. I haven't been in here for a while. Just been on a spending spree for my "Cruiser". Been i touch a lot with Nats on FaceBook. I'll try to upload some pics of my Camaro. Geoff, you're right about bringing stuff in. It is a lot cheaper to do that way. There are a lot of things we can't source locally, so we have to bring some stuff in. Get in quick Guys, i heard the Govt wants to introduce GST on everything that comes in.

I got these Rims in from West Coast Wheels California. Cost: Lol okay here goes. 4 Rim package deal. I got 15x10, 15x8 American Racing AR61 Outlaw. $1700NZ & then $280NZ for duty tax when landed in NZ. Tyres i got locally. Rear: 275/60/15 @ $700 for both, Front 225/60/15 $560 for both. I wanted to go 235, or 245/60/15 front, but they were out of stock from Otahuhu tyrepower, & also the cheapest i could find.

Got hardened springs coming from the US as we speak.

Nice wheels.

I been trying to get some through mag and turbo but it's like pulling teeth.....A bloody painful experience.
I want to match my fronts with some 15x10 rears or get a full set of 17's but they either can't do the stud pattern or the correct offsets.
I'm gonna have to buy offshore.
What was the freight cost for the wheels GW ?

Thanks Geoff. Here's some info You & the Guys may be keen on. Freight cost was $605NZ + $278NZ for Duty tax.... The 15"x10" (49mm offset) rims need to be @ least 5" offset to avoid rubbing on the inside of the rear guard & to prevent too much protrusion on the rear guard Currently 1.5" outside. I'll have to get them flaired however, i did think about going down to a 245/60/15. You's will notice that the 275/60/15's on the rear also have a taller profile compared to the front ones, 225/60/15. The front tyres i thought to play safe as these are perfect to clear the guards when turning. You might??? get away with 235/60/15 in BF Goodrich. The front rims have a 19mm offset............The Centreline equivalent, i have 2x 8.5x15" rims (spare) with the 3" offset. Perfect for the back but protrudes 1" outside the guard on the front. I think the 10" Centerlines have 2 offsets, 3.78" & 4.75". Just bear in mind that the American Racing wheels i have are one piece & that the Centerline are 2 piece. My pick was the American Racing. It was cheaper for me to bring four in from the US than get 2 1/2 Centrelines from Australia. BF Goodrich tyres (in white lettering) now only make 225, 235, 245, 275, 295 in 60 profile. None in 50 profile, so You might want to consider this as the options are becoming less & less for 15" tyres.

That's the problem with 15's. ... I need 50 profile.

I would like some 17" torque thrusts but can't get what I want here....it sucks

Hey GW.

I can get 17 x 9.5 in 5.05 backspace for my rears the same design as my fronts (which are 15's).

Do you reckon they will fit without rubbing or sticking out past the guard ?

Nice choice of Mags Loops. they remind me of Hustlers & they suit the age of the car like mine..... She'll be close. @ 9.5" = 240. 235/35/17 should be okay, & to prevent too much sidewall overhang. Sorry for the late reply. Hey Bud, would You consider starting a page on FaceBook?, or i'll start one & make it private for now???. I bought in heaps more stuff from the US. Take more pics soon, cheers Gabe.

Hey GW

I ended up buying those wheels. I got the polished version. Gonna run 275/40/17 all round. Nitto NT555 . Same tires as on our corvette.

I started a thread to ask about tire/wheel sizes and the concensus was they should fit Ok. 0 offset 17x9.5 works ok so -5 might squeak in too. I should have them here for $300 ish each. Getting one sent at a time to avoid having to pay duty.

I'll post a link to it soon.

EDIT... https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/wheels-tires/718347-ridler-675-a.html

As for Facebook go for it mate I'll sign up for it.

Hey Geoff how's your camaro ?
Thanks for sharing the tyre profile specs with us Gw didn't even know which is good to know now though because dad was looking to get some new 295 50 15 bf Goodrich tires for his 78 transam so we won't be getting 50 profile now haha.
Do you have a Facebook profile Geoff if you do send me an GW a friend request the muscle car group that we're starting is private so you won't be able to search it unless me orGW add you

Re: Calling all KIWI'S

Hi Nat

I was told BFG don't have 50 series 15's any more which really sucks!

I went with those 17x9.5 -5 offset wheels due to the cheap price ($144 USD)

The ideal 17x9.5 is a 0 offset apparently. Mine will barely clear the guards but I thought I would take the risk.

275/40/17 gives roughly the same overall circumference as my current tires 225/60/15.

The tires are Nitto NT555 I think ( same as our corvette ).
I just hope it all works out.

I sent you a PM re facebook

Re: Calling all KIWI'S

hey hello
I have a 82 Z28 383 400 turbo etc, from hamilton it has a 4th gen diff which was put in by previous owner because who wanted a discbrake rear end but it runs 4:11 gears which for pickup is pretty good but for fuel economy sucks lol, where can I get a reasonable priced gear set from and what ratio would you recommend?

mine is running 17x9.5 torque thrust 2 wheels with a 42p rear offset because of the wider diff (+50mm) had tohave them custom made two piece....the things we do

Re: Calling all KIWI'S

Hi Monster welcome to the thread!

What did you do for front size/offset?

I'm currently getting 17x9.5 Ridler 875 for mine but offsets wont suit front, will probably have to go 17x8.

That TH400 will probably have the worst effect on economy being only a 3 speed.

It must be ballistic with 4.11 gears

GOT PICS?

Not bad Monster. The only downfall i can see is your car will Rev like shyt @ 100kph. You would need a 6speed manual or 2.73 to 2.90 approx gears if you want keep your 400 trans.

Re: Calling all KIWI'S

Well took mine on for a WOF today and failed for a crack in the chassis at the steering box.

As the engine was coming out this month to fit the new one I went to my local paint shop and he is gonna fix the crack, plate over the effected area and paint the engine bay for only $700.

Not too bad really
