Gotta hand it to ya Dave, whenever I was late with the updates the crap throwing would immediately commence. However here in this thread it's all good, and people have the patience of saints lol. Wish you the best of luck with the new project above bro...

street, l will say that most of the crap gettin slung was just off the title of your thread. when you said 9 second 305 it was a lot to live up to, and pretty much nobody really expected it to go that fast. right off the bat you were talking to non believers.

he's switched and swapped so many things i cant even remember whats in there anymore. im pretty much in awe how much work he gets done though, i could never do so much in so little time. i would love to see this car make a pass or something just to see how everything winds up working together and how long the budget motor lasts.

Re: and so it starts
still working on the bike , its getting turbocharged just started to mock it back up today
in about 1-1.5 weeks ill get back on the car since im waiting on one more thing that needs to go threw the shop first
updated picks of the bike
frame and engine painted
mocked up with the body panels
of course i had to spray some flake on the tank
and im going to grab another set of wheels so i can have real street tires for it
other then that i have an extended polished aluminum swingarm of an xr200r comming, and swaping the rear 17" wheel for an 18", along with a set of short style smoked led blinkers
the turbo will be an rbhv31 turbo set at 14 psi , with ablow threw carb setup , if the blow threw doesnt work its getting fuel inection with a microsquirt
stock it makes 34hp/24ftlbs who knows what it will make with 14 psi
i really have way to many projects

That turbo is a little oversized but I think is about as small as you can get. The china ones have been known for broken shafts. You can come across a real one on ebay from time to time.
If you stick with carb, how are you removing timing? Or going E85 or other high octane? The stock CDI does not make timing mods that easy. If you go with Microsquirt you need to trigger it and the CDI is too high a voltage. If you use the VR with the stock trigger bumps (odd shaped teeth) then the VR ckt doesn't work 100% right. Anyway, are you building your own pickup ckt or gonna use a GM HEI module as a pickup and fire an inductive ignition.
I messed with this stuff before. I ended up using a motorcycle inductive ignition box to pickup the timing bumps. Then used digitial signals inside the box to trigger the ecm. This was the most reliable way to do it.
Good Luck. Fun Project!
Also, try googling EFI for motorcyle kits. There is some bolt on kits that are reasonably priced. One of those may be a better deal than piecing it together and resolves the ignition problem. We all know what a hand full carbs and boost can be. I think the bolt on EFI kit is best bang for buck.

Nice looking bike. Where did the hp number come from? It rivals newer engine technology for 250cc engines. I thought the 80s XR250 engines were around 22HP. They only revved to 9K.

that number comes from ever source i have looked up, even from hondas specs its also the 4 valve engine not the dual valve engine.
the tricky part is this engine used 2 carbs
its low compression so blow threw with high octane or e85 should work ok , im trying to avoid the efi , the ecotrons kit was an option but not sure how tomake it work since i would need 2 injectors and tb's
ive seen the rbhv31 used on 150/200cc stuff so should be ok and witht he amount of hp the engine makes it should have no problems spooling it

I think you are right about the turbo. I had an RHB4 in mind.

Re: and so it starts
Check out the Ninja250 kit. It has a dual TB setup 28mm. The crank trigger is different so you would want to have the ECM trigger for a XR250. The ninja has 3 short teeth and 1 long tooth. Not sure what the XR250 has. You can get the kit with dual 25 lb/hr injectors. Although, most of the parts look china flimsy but may be reliable.

If you go megasquirt, I would use a motorcyle inductive ign box to trigger the MS. Using a GM HEI module won't give a clean zero crossing point with the long tooth.
If you go carb, can't wait to see how you do it........pitot or small pump with N2O fuel nozzle.

almost about time to get back on the car
almost got the bike all the way together
day i got it
and as of last night
cant wait for the aluminum swingarm to get here so i can polish that and also polish out the forks should look really good
going to ride it this wekeend and then ill start throwing the turbo on it this week , found out that 86-04 xr's have the single carb setup so im going to grab one of those to make doing a blow threw setup much easier

Re: and so it starts
its going to go less engine , but ill leave the current 700r4 in it , but otherwise complete minus all my electronics and fuel system( will put a walboro 255 back in the tank though) and my new wheels and tires will also come off and ill throw the old centerlines back on it. and ill give the 10pt cage to whoever buys it its prenotched and ready to be welded in
, basically ready to drop in any carb motor , or efi engine with standalone of ur choice as the stock ecm was removed even before i got the car , and i gutted the rest of the factory efi harness out of the car

Re: and so it starts
i may have gone full red-neck
not 100% sure what im doing with it just yet , the lift is deffinaly comming off it , the transfer case may take the abuse form the engine out of the camaro so the whole setup might go in the truck , or i may put a stock engine in it and flip it , and pick up a c5 vette or something
truck had a 4bt in it , but was originally a 350/th350 4wd , which i have
the body is stright and rust free minus the missing grill and front fenders that arent bolted on all the way , with a decent engine in it i could prolly get close to 4,500 for it in this area

You are making me want to part out my thirdgen.
I took my 4th gen convertible out to get fuel the other day, and it handles like 10 million times better than the best thirdgen

Re: and so it starts
everyday i see the car all torn apart it makes me sad lol.
anyways i cant find a decent cheap s10/dakota ranger anywere , g-bodys arent easy to come by either.
im not sure whats going to happen but if i dont find something soon to work on i may just fnish the iroc , and if that happens the tear down wasnt for nothing , i had to tear it down to paint it anyways.

Re: and so it starts
Why don't you just do what everybody here wants to see you do, sell the V8 or put it into something else, and build a turbo V6 for your Camaro. I think I speak for a lot of people here who want to see the return of Daves12secondV6, but with 3.4, 3.5 or 3.9 this time around...

Re: and so it starts
someday i will for now i have plans to push that stock block 352 as far as i can , i have everything to turbo my bike so thats second on the list , and then finally ill get around to doing another v6 , its going to be a 3.4/3500 70-76mm turbo , to many issues with the 3900 rods and if i had to deal with that id deal with a 4.3 instead

Re: and so it starts
I spend all winter tinkering and putting money into it, and then in the spring once again realize it's an 80s turd. Only to be sucked back into tinkering again in the fall.
If I weren't so upside down into the project financially, i'd sell it all and do a 6.0 4th gen turbo build.
Maybe I'll finish the car one day.

... nah, I think Mars has Dave beat lol. j/k
Get it together, we'll have another build off, but V6 this time. I stopped posting my stuff as you can tell, but if your serious I will build a V6 as well, I just happen to have one sitting in the garage, waiting for that very thing, albeit a 3.8 (not a Buick). I'll even go Megasquirt to make it even lol...

Now that it's summer and I'm driving my 4th gen again, I don't even want to look at my thirdgen..
