Found a Paxton SN89 in my basement

I was cleaning out my basement and found a SN89 I forgot about years ago, I even had a rebuilt kit stored along with it. I was bored, so I rebuilt it yesterday. Is there any possible way this would work well with a Chevy 355, LT4 hotcam, stealth ram, forged 4 relief flat top pistons, and longtube headers? It does sound dumb, but I would like to see what I could get out of it. The impeller blade is rated to 5psi, I read the max supercharger rpm is around 38,000. The cam I have installed maxes out at 6000 rpm.

What a lucky find! Sorry, I can't answer your question though... I am interested in what comes of this! I am tossing a Procharger P1SC in the mix for my engine...

Re: Found a Paxton SN89 in my basement

Interesting, I think the P1SC can handle higher rpms than the ball bearing SN89. For the Paxton, I would have to change the pulley sizes so that I don't max out the SN89 before the cam hits its optimal top end rpm. I wonder if anyone on this board has ever used a supercharger with a Hotcam. I would be using 5psi of boost, which I think is safe to run with my setup. If I can achieve at least 50 extra horses, then I'll go on with the project.

Re: Found a Paxton SN89 in my basement

I just installed a Paxton sn93 on my wifes 91 z28 350..tpi car..but her is stock except for some bolt on and a custom 4 inch exhaust from Mufflex..I just had it rebuilt from Paradise wheels it is also upgraded for more boost and better bearings..so im thinking it can go a little higher in the rpm Band...I think they rev higher then 38,000 rpms too..

I can't use this supercharger on my set up. It's completely mismatched due to the cam and the pulleys available to use with the unit. It's listed on Ebay under Chevy 350 TPI Paxton SN89 Supercharger if anyone is interested. It's missing a few bolts that can be bought at most hardware stores.

Re: Found a Paxton SN89 in my basement

OK, thanks for the reply. I noticed you rebuilt it yourself, is that difficult ? Do you need special tools ?. Do they need to be rebuilt often ? I have seen one for sale, He states it needs a front seal, is that difficult to replace ?. Is there a manual or website that you know of that will give me a step by step instruction for a rebuild ?. Any info will help Thanks , have a good day. George

There is a message board dedicated to Paxton Supercharger, which you can find old threads on how to rebuild a paxton sn supercharger. You will need a lb ft and lb in torque wrench to use on every bolt. If you don't torque the front case bolts and the impeller bolt correctly, you won't get any boost under load, or you will severely damage internal components. They are easy to rebuild if you know what you are doing. You would have to press out the shaft so you can remove the front seal and I don't recommend hammering the shaft back in after replacing the seal. Go to google and find a torque specification sheet for a paxton sn supercharger, I basically learned how to rebuild them from looking at that.
