Single turbo engine

I've been pondering this now for a little while.

I have a 355 on the stand with a bag over it I just got back from the machine shop. 4 bolt mains, OE roller block.

I was gonna stick a ZZ4 cam and heads on it, and stick it in my Stingray as a n/a driver.

My Firebird has a 412" with a NX276HR retrofit cam, afr210 heads, cast manifolds and a T76.

I wonder if I should put the 412" in the Corvette, and run it n/a (or nitrous) and instead run the T76 on the 355?

I wonder if the 355/zz4 would be more suited for the smaller T76 than the 412. ?

I also have a concern about the 2 bolt main 400 block. I know the logical answer is to go with a 88mm turbo on a 400+ inch motor and run 9s, but I think I'll end up becoming a member of the "I drove over my crank" club..

Re: Single turbo engine

I ran a 2 bolt 355 with a roots blower pushing 10 lbs and the same one with a t76 pushing 14 lbs of boost with no issues. only thing that let go on me was a 10 yr old piston.....mains and rod bearings were like new

Either way the engine will be built to spec. I have not ordered pistons or rods yet, so I'm somewhat flexible on forged vs hyper, clearances, final compression ratio.

I just wonder if a 355 would be better with the smaller T76 (more boost, more efficient in the turbos range) than a 412. I wonder if the 412 would be a better n/a or nitrous motor in the stingray.

Re: Single turbo engine

Yes that 76 would be better in the 355 as a lower rpm unit. It can work on that 412 with a large wastegate but backpressure will limit the power output

I think you may see more output with that turbo on smaller motor
