Torqstorm
Anyone ever seen one? (In person)
http://www.torqstorm.com/kits_single...ock-chevy.html
Originally I was told these were redesigned Powerdyne XB gear blowers, but they apparently are not.
They can mount on the driver or passenger side, and they use a really thick bracket to prevent flex.
Attached is a thirdgen with an LS and a TorqStorm blower.
The company claims they are more efficient that Vortech, however they do not have compressor maps. The current unit can support about 700hp supposedly, and owners have shown 6xx hp dynosheets.
The only thing I don't like is the straight cut gearbox. I wonder how noisy it might be.
Edit: I spoke to the company reps and have updated information.

I have talked to the guys at torque storm. They are local and I have been to their shop. They have told me that on and ls you are capped at 8 psi. If you want to pulley it down for more you will hurt the unit. But that is fine sonce most would be happy with 8#'s.

Hrmm..
I got some specs on the unit. Interesting. I like the fact that you can get a passenger side mount bracket.
I don't like the fact that it has straight cut gears.

Re: Torqstorm
That is a nice looking setup, pretty easy to reroute for an Intercooler.
Already giving me some idea's lol...
Not sure why there would be an 8-psi limit though, as that is impossible, unless they specify how much naturally aspirated power to start with as being the restriction. Boost reference depends on the amount of air the engine is capable of flowing naturally aspirated, meaning if a certain pulley setup makes 8-psi on an LSX making 300 horsepower naturally aspirated, then that same pulley setup will make double that boost pressure on an engine making 150 horsepower naturally aspirated. There is usually only an RPM limit with compressors, boost pressure itself varies depending on the engine. Not all LS engines make the same power stock...

The price isn't too terrible, I think he quoted me $2900 for the kit. I'm a bit shocked that they don't have compressor maps.
I sold my turbo setup, and I'm going back to supercharger. Just not the ATI crap I had 2 years ago. Either Vortech, Torqstorm, or Speedmaster.

Haha, I'm really tempted to pull the turbo stuff off and sell it myself. Wanna go F1X though...
Vortech's make way too much noise even with the engine off...

Re: Torqstorm
My A-Trim, and S-trim Vortech both with the straight cut gears was loud as fawk! However, the newer V2 with the helical gears is quiet. The V3 is self contained, and quiet. I'd love a V3 but if I'm putting the blower on the passenger side (I am) I guess running a drain and feed isn't a big deal.
Turbos are awesome, but for this car just too much heat and too tight packaging. I'm sick of fabricating stuff and I'm like really close to just parting the car out and playing with my vettes. So I removed the turbo from my list of headaches. I'll run it N/A for now until I get a blower.

So I'm thinking of buying one of these for passenger side mount, but I'd have to redesign my tensioner.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Re: Torqstorm
I've been in contact with torqstorm all week. They are super helpful and seem to have a nice product for a bracket of people. All made in USA. The biggest prob is the hp it will support, about 600hp to the wheels if I remember correctly.
I'm going to be going with the pass side mount soon. Here's what ive been told for my 5.3 LS.
1. Told me to convert to LS1 style water pump as the kit is less money. I can use spacers and hub from the Silverado kit so I reuse my stock accessories.
2. On a stock 5.3LS expect 8+psi and more than 500hp. They said a 5.3 with a cam made 570hp on the Dyno.
3. Comes in 3 pullies. 3.25" lowest boost then a 3.1" and 2.9". Each .100"ish of pulley reduction is worth about 1-2psi depending on the motor combo. You can't change them out or u void the warranty. They will change it for free but u have to ship it back to them and the pullies are $75 plus the ride.
4. A stock 5.3 will see 1-2psi at 1800rpms and hit hard by 3k.
5. Typical IATS are 180 range and minimum required octane is 91. They are setup for meth injection.
6.) the supercharger itself requires 47hp to turn at full boost.
7.) self contained oil is good for 10k if u don't hit hit hard at the track a lot and goes for $6 a bottle through them.
Honestly it's perfect for me. I only wanted 550hp ish for the street and I don't have a giant turbo and plumbing heating everything up under the hood.

Re: Torqstorm
Their pics are on a plain jane sbc with no serpentine belt drive or accessories. Would have to see one mounted up to get a feel for if it fits or not. That looks like a big bracket. I like the jack-screw tensioner though, way better than the vortech sbc set-up.

Why not buy a procharger or something that wont blow up when you try and make some real power with it?

I don't know how the d1 is, but the p1 is basically a hair dryer that kinda sorta moves air too.

Re: Torqstorm
WEll I ordered mine up today… should have it in a few weeks hopefully. Rick (torqstorm) is a very friendly guy and took the time to answer all my questions and set me up with a custom setup.
I decided to get a LS1 GTO bracket setup (pass side) but he will swap out the LS1 style hub for a truck style as well as the spacers for the supercharger bracket. Then the GTO style cold side tubing etc. Using the LS1 style bracket will mount the Supercharger the way it is in the pic so it will clear the hood, then the truck Hub and spacers will allow me to use the truck accessories. But because its a LS1 style bracket I will need to change the truck water pump to a LS1 style and that means get 3/4" spacers to space it out to line up with the truck accessories and brackets. For those of you wondering its not that expensive to swap all this out. I won a ebay pro comp high volume water pump for $50 shipped, got the 3/4" spacers with oring gaskets and bolts for $36 shipped. I pulled the stupid heater hose nipples out of the pump (PITA!!) and tapped them for NPT plugs.
The supercharger kit will come with everything else I need to bolt it on and go. I'm probably going with the smallest pulley for 11-12psi boost as I don't want to send it back to get a new pulley swapped on. And since I plan on doing a cam and some head work down the road I'm not that worried. I will just have to be extra careful in the tune and def run the meth injection Or figure out a IC setup thats cheap.
THese supercharger kits are not limited to 8psi… of course we all know Boost PSI is related to restriction and varies with any engine combo. On a all stock 5.3 the largest pulley they sell will make 8+psi, the smallest one will make 11-12psi (thats the one I'm going with). Guy with his kit with nothing but a boost cam put down 574rwhp but was running a custom prototype 2.7" pulley (smallest he sells is 3" i think). So I figure he was around 15psi depending on the cam and how much boost it bled off.

Re: Torqstorm
Haven't gotten it running or in the road yet. Still cold here in NJ and we just got like 28" of snow a few weeks ago. Also been busy renovating the house and building a nursery for my first kid who's due in April.
I do have it mostly installed tho, fully bolted down and just finished the fresh air and pressure side as well as final bolt down of the exhaust. Just need to do the belt and get my watermeth installed and the supercharger is mostly done. still have all the ECM and wiring, fans, boost gauge etc to do. Hopefully get her started and running when it's warm.
Kit is nice tho, 3/4" billet brackets and nice Tbolt clamps. I did get a different silicone hose to push the air filter where I wanted it.

Re: Torqstorm
I've posted these before, but here's another brand/option for Passenger side SC mounting, it's a C5/6 partial kit from East Coast Supercharging out of New Jersey. It uses their bracket ,tensioner etc and the Paxton/Vortec Novi head unit.
I don't have any preference for any brand(s) but I do see that if anyone says bad things about procharger they are roundly smacked down, and I don't know why that is.
I used the GM C5 accessory drive kit as ECS is mainly a shop for Vette guys and all of this went together easily. I didn't use their IC but I did use a treadstone Vette style that discharges from the top. And I had to lower the radiator a couple inches and cut some of the core support to make it clear the stock Trans am hood.

Re: Torqstorm
I bet the front filter mount setups get a good bit of heat from the radiator. Either setup would still require an IC or water/meth for lowering IAT's.

looks good, make sure you wrap that passenger side header with heat wrap, supposed to be good for 30hp diff vs un-wrapped
