My GT45 single turbo 5.3 Truck intake build!

Just started!!

Got the motor in yesterday and it does fit. However i have very little room between the PS pulley and the steering box (like 1/16") I cant move the motor back anymore due to the trans mount and DS length. I'm going to reuse my built 2004R and 2400 stall billet converter.

Heres what I did and will update this with costs thus far.

1999 150K truck 5.3LS with ECM/harness = $750
Bosch 60lb at 43psi, 72lb at 58psi LS1 matched injectors with harness adapters from FIC = $430
LS6 valve springs = $65
LS valve spring tool - $24
Fbody oil pan new = $198
Fbody windage tray = $19
Fbody oil pump pickup = $34
Fbody oil dipstick and tube = $23
MAP Sensor and pigtail = $18
TR6 spark plugs = $13
VS racing GT45 with oil feed kit = $385
44mm WG and 50mm BOV = $120 - 300
Ebay LS turbo forward/up SS headers = $165
CX racing T4 to 3"vband adapter = $85
Sensor adapters = $40
Intake EGR and Purge solenoid blockoff plates = $30
LS1 fuel rails = $50
Fuel lines and fittings = $100
New 130 amp alternator and starter = $130
new tensioner,belt and idler = $75
Setback motor mounts = $50
Exhaust (crossover, 3.5" downpipe, 4" catback) = $500 or less
HP tuners =$500 - $650
28x19 HOWE radiator = $239
Cooling fans = $120

Roughly $4,500 total probably less. Hoping for 530-600 crank hp.

Will update with pics and such later tonight.

Ebay pair_dice sold some decent quality cheap gates and bov. Wyntonm brand. I got them on the rear 305 build and so far so good

Re: My GT45 single turbo 5.3 Truck intake build!

Yea Ive used his WG on a rear mounted turbo 600cc motorcycle build I like them and it worked great.

Unfortunately Ive changed my mind with the build again. I dont want the underhood temps and I feel like a supercharger would work better for my application. I like that its self contained and no hot turbo plumbing under the hood with higher under hood temps. I also like that I can start building boost at 1800rpms vs 3k.

So I returned the turbo headers and just ordered some cheap SS LT headers for our cars and looking at $2900 for the torqstorm supercharger.

Now Im deciding if I should spend the 2K on a holley terminator EFI setup for tuning or throw 1K at the OEM ECM, HPT pro, ECM mount, All new 02 Sensors etc. Ive heard the Holley terminator is very user friendly and it will work with Boost and meth but I would need more harnesses for the Meth. They said i need to get the dominator setup for both boost and meth control even tho the terminator setup controls it, it doesnt have the drivers or whatever. I already need to get the $65 harness for the boost control.

So the big question is the Holley EFI setup worth the extra 1K over the OEM stuff.

Lol flip floppin

You could spool low rpm if you wanted. And underhood temps arent terrible when wrapped and depends where you put things

Blowers are fun and easier to tune. But belt slip and alignment issues can be an issue

Re: My GT45 single turbo 5.3 Truck intake build!

haha I know!!! believe me I don't like changing my mind or buying things twice. Blowers were always out of price range. The difference between the turbo and the blower is that the turbo is cheap chinese with no warranty and the blower is made in the USA and has a lifetime warranty... which for me is a big deal lol. The belt should be aligned and grippy enough (8rib) as its designed for my application so its bolt on and go. I hope its easier to tune as well since its more predictable I'm assuming.

Any thoughts on the Holley EFI system vs the stock? I like that the Holley as the adaptive learn function and will tune itself. And it would be easier if I decided to swap in a cam and do some head work down the road.

Re: My GT45 single turbo 5.3 Truck intake build!

Adaptive learn is ok for intial start up and tuning base map but eventually want to disable that and dial in tune manually

I like holley hp and the like. Friend runs it and wish i did the same as i had planned
Hptuners isnt to bad tho. Milder boost is good for hptuners as it wont max out the timing as early as it would on high boost hotter setups. Its good tho since you have a near stock 5.3 so start with a good base map should make it easy
