If you know of/would like to recomend a good machine/body/parts shop and or junkyard please post it here! An address or phone # if you have it would be great as well. Please NO debates, just info and recommendations. Thanks!

Bruce (90RS305)

What machine shops are you guys currently using and how would you rate their service? I used R N R Machine

Perhaps we could have a "sticky/useful" thread for things like performance shops, machine shops, junkyards, and anything else that gets asked often. ***elbows Bruce*** Useful information threads sort of like what they're doing on the TBI board.

Does anyone have a stock TBI laying around in case I fudge mine up?

I used Chuck's Speed Shop. There work was excellent but I thought they were pricey. My head work was $480.00.

Ya know what? Thats not too shabby of an idea. Definetly not gonna get as crazy as we are on the TBI board, but I think this thread might be useful! Sticky to the top!

This isn't a machine shop, but The Car Shop on Broadway in Tempe is a good place to go if you need something welded up or quickly fixed etc. They did my relocation brackets and I'm happy with them. Whatever you do, don't go to AMP = All Mustang Performance I went there to get my bottle filled and they gave me so much ****, duh

You got itemized pricing on that stuff?

If it includes parts it sounds about right.

It did include parts. As ffar as itemized, I would have to look at the receipt. I have it at home.

Muffler shop: Mighty Muffler on Cave Creek Road just north of where it meets Dunlop and 7th Street - this guy will go out of his way to help anyone. They also do general repair. They supplied pipe and bends for my last exhaust project.

B & M muffler in Tolleson good place to go if ya just need a quick weld, or a pipe bent and welded in. its on the northside of the road off of Van buren. no idea of the address. PHONE # 623-936-4165. they will sell tubing and make bends for ya as well. $30 for a 10ft of 2.5" exhaust tubing.

Phoenix engine rebuilders 21632 N 7th ave. 602-866-8044, they were good to me, they do everything in house, unlike the one place i took my heads to but that turned out okay.

I used Chuck's Speed Shop. There work was excellent but I thought they were pricey. My head work was $480.00.
Bill used Chucks Speed and RV on my recomendation. I am not calling Bill out or anything, but he is learning on how expensive qaulity machine work costs.

I will say it again.

I dont think any other shop in the valley offers as good an experience as Chucks does. They are way more then just a machine shop. They are a full service race shop with machining services on location. They do a wide variety of race buildups, stuff beyond streetable. They also do serious buildups on RV powerplants: you know big blocks, diesel, turbo, etc... However they dont throw any work away and from my experience have always had time for the street enthusiest also. The Manager is great, really makes sure you get taken care of.

They took care off the block prep on my stroker motor and took care of all the little details, I paid good money but couldnt be more pleased. 550$

My buddy just got done working with them as well, stroker motor block prep, head work on his Dart Pro 1s, indexed crank, cut the billet flywheel for his 6spd etc... 700$_inculded some bearings and small parts.

We are also in the process of a stroker motor build up for ESAMS, guess what shop we will source for the work, LOL!!!

We do all assembley and buildup of our own motors but Chucks does assembley as well.

AZAUTOMASTERS!!
Mike over at Automaster built my trans.

So far so good, I just started flogging on my car, got me 1000 miles now. The Automaster trans hasnt hit the track yet but i am running it pretty hard on the street with Drag Radials, 3.73 gears, and 3000rpm Vigilante converter.

Havent popped the cherry yet but if the trans lets go at the track you guys will be the second to know about it, as Automaster will be the first since he would have to service it under the warranty that he provides.

I don't mind that at all. Just PLEASE no major advertising! I think once in this thread would be plenty. Don't forget, I now have a nifty 'Post Delete' button, and I know how to use it...

They did a subframe off paint on my 67 camaro which included rust repair. The turn around time was very quick and the quality is outstanding. He was doing several other muscle cars when I had my car in and all of the work was jaw dropping. Price was really affordable too.

Car Alarm/stereo Installer

Just wanted to let everyone know on this board about a friend of mine that has his own small business going on. He does car alarms and stereos. His web site has some prices but it would proably be best to call him and ask him over the phone. He has installed 3 alarms for me personally. Remote start, door actuators... He is located in Mesa btw.

I personally have had a bad experience with them. Their welds were a joke on my cat, and I had to go back 4 times for them to re weld it and fix leaks.

I recomend you dont use this shop. I took my pistons and rods there to be pressed on. Four of them were put on upside down (They are dome pistons). I took them back today to have them switched and they broke one. Bastards!!!!! All they had to say was sorry one will be here monday. Top it all off when I took them there the first time I asked them if they know which way they go on. They said " of course I've been doing this for 7 years". The guy that said this was the guy that put the pistons on upside down and broke one.

buddy of mine works here. I went in to have AC converted over to R 134a. He checked system and all was ok and held vaccum so we decided to go with Freeze 12 instead of the 134a and I'm glad I did. Pretty cheap for a system fill and a lot colder than 134a

Auto Spec Machine Shop
Shop owner - Pham (pronounced: "pom")

1702 W Hatcher Rd
PHOENIX, AZ 85021 - 2054

These guys rebuilt the engine on my 300ZX and did an incredible job. Everything was done right the 1st time around w/out any problems. The only drawback was that my pistons had to be ordered and shipped from Japan; which took 3 weeks. Once they were in, I had the car back 1 week later.

They churn out about 20 motors a month. They're also very reasonable. I was quoted anywhere from $2000 - $2700 to rebuild an '86 300zx. They charged me $1500. They offer a 1 year guarantee with every rebuild REGARDLESS of mileage. The guarantee is also transferable if you sell the car.

The owner; Pham: is Vietnamese and can be a little hard to understand when you first meet with him. The biz has been there for 20 years and he's definitely good at what he does. I've sent about 6 ppl there to get engines rebuilt over the last year and every single one has been more than satisfied.

This shop is the best!

If I ever have to take my car into a shop ever again (hope I won't need to....) it would be Rettke I'd take it to.

Midas Muffler I17 & Dunlap = Ripoff

POS!!!!!!!!!!Quoted me one price for Catalytic Converter & charged me another. When he gave me the quote, he said if that is all that needs to be done. I told him that is all I want them to do, I know it needs other work & I don't want any other work done. When I saw the work order it said something about changing my trans oil. When I asked him about it, he said something about GM using inferior fluid, like it had never been changed. Blah, blah, blah....
When I asked him about the quote, he danced around & gave me some BS story that he didn't know that I needed a extra part ($14.99). Did infact charge me $199 + tax when I was quoted $187 + tax. When I asked how did he know what to quote me then, he didn't say anything.
On the reciept I had to sign I put "under protest" above my name.
$30.00 isn't alot of money, it's the fact he thought he could take advantage of me because I'm a woman! I'm in the process of filing a complaint to Midas International Corp.; BBB & AZ Att. General office.

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I'm not a Third-Gen driver...But I do have TBI, does that count?
Anyway, I used Basko's Machine Shop in Gilbert also and they did a geat job and the motor sounds awesome. I agree, Ray is a great guy.

BTW: This site kicks a$$ for info on the ecm boards. I'm running a 1228746 in my 82 vette out of a 92 Firebird.

Automatic Transmission Rebuilders in Kingman did a wonderful job on rebuilding my 700. They're at 124 E. Beale St, just off of Andy Devine, the number is (928) 753-3121 The manager is Brandon Loos, and he's awesome. When the tranny was apart, let me come in, see what he was replacing, I knew everything ahead of time, and he has the nice Hayden tranny coolers, and installs them without doing anything else for $90.

Arizona TPI Fuel Injection Innovators.
Tempe-Mesa area, AZ Maricopa county

Great facility, diagnostic equipment, onsite dyno,
and TPI/LT1/LS1 parts in house. I enjoyed my visit.
All staff members knowledgeable in TPI and aftermarket
gear. They offer custom PROM tuning, Injector cleaning
and conversions for just about any car.

Good website, project cars & parts!

http://www.AZTPI.com

I had a Code '33' problem I couldn't find, they got it done in
an hour or two. I was very pleased.. No run around.. they
didn't throw parts at the problem. 100% truthful.

I will be taking the car back for further evaluation later.
Very close to Mesa/Scottsdale/Gilbert/Chandler, It's the only
place that I will let people touch my car other than myself!
