Re: Albuquerque - Emissions

Bumping this back up, but asking about Emission testing this time.

Does anyone know if a visual test is done for EGR, CAT, etc... in Albuquerque?
The only thing I've got from a tech there is a gas cap test. There must be more to it than that.

'89 IROC by the way.

Thanks

Re: Albuquerque

I live in El Paso, Tx. Down here, vehicles are emissions testing exempt after 25 years. I can't imagine Albuquerque is that different...there isn't emissions testing for the rest of the state, outside of the Albuquerque metro area. Just ask a local shop.

Re: Albuquerque

Some websites say testing is for 1983 and newer vehicles. Some say 1979.
I called a shop and they really couldn't tell me what was going to be tested till they saw it, other than the gas cap.
Hoping someone who lives in the city will reply.
I'm in Maryland and putting this car together for my son-in-law. Just trying to keep the issues as few as possible for him when it gets there.

Re: Albuquerque

No emissions testing in Clovis, NM. They check to see if the vin matches and that's about it.

My iroc doesn't have any emissions hooked up and I'm running long tubes without cats.

Re: Albuquerque

Yeah same here in Md for cars over 25 yrs old. But this car is going to Albuquerque metro area and has to pass emission testing. I'd just like to talk to someone to see if its all visual or what. I've read they do a sniffer/tailpipe test, look for the cat and do a gas cap test. If thats it then I think I'm probably ok. My EGR isn't working but its all there. Not sure how they would test its functionality anyway.

Re: Albuquerque

Talked to another shop and they said for older than OBD2 cars, it would only be a tailpipe and gas cap test. No visual. Said they didn't care what if any factory equipment was on it as long as it passed the sniffer.
That's really good news if it holds true.
Still like to hear from someone who's went thru it in the metro area.

Thanks guys

I’ve had 3rd gens in Abq for the last 20 years. Always passed with just a sniffer test, visual on cat and gas cap test.
