The next SoCal cruises

Before the recent San Diego cruise with the SC3G, its been a long time since I've been out cruising and canyon carving. I forgot how much fun it is. We need to pick that back up and start doing it again.

In Sept, either the 19th or 26th, the SCTPI will be putting on the Rim of the World cruise to Big Bear.

After that, in October, are people interested in having another one? Maybe Highway 2 to Wrightwood? I'm trying to remember what road we took back in 2000 for the West Coast Thirdgen Gathering. I also remember a road we took with George Lara in Lancaster or Palmdale way back when, too. Anyone know?

I found this site that lists a bunch of local canyon roads:

Re: The next SoCal cruises

I'm hoping to join the 2015 Annual Cen-Cal Third Gen Meet the first week of September, and definitely am up for a So Cal cruise there after. The plan is to have my car back by the last week of August ready for all of this fun.

Other so can canyons I ride on my bike that would be fun in a third gen are Glendora Mountain Road/Azusa/Crystal Lake, Malibu (Latigo Canyon, The Snake ""), and Hwy 33 is astonishing.

I'd vote for Sept 19th for ROTW because on the 26th there's 3 big car shows happening, Crusin' for a cure, Route 66, and Saleen open house.

Highway 2 sounds good sometime too.

I'm up for a Big Bear cruise. Either weekend should be fine. Hot dogs and burgers by the lake?

I would love to join in one of those events. But my car is still work in progress not counting the magic dyno don has to work. By the way Kevin91z to actually help tune the cars right?

Re: The next SoCal cruises

Nothing to see here, at least, nothing new, except a lot of road construction in the northern LA County mountains.

Little Tujunga Canyon Road(Osborne St. from Lake View Terrace[the Hansen Dam area] to Sand Canyon Road in Canyon Country) has been posting long delays all summer, but that would be weekdays, not weeknights or weekends. I've been on it at night recently, and it seems normal.

Angeles Forest Highway(from Angeles Crest Highway 2 to Sierra Highway/Pearblossom Highway in the Palmdale area) has also been posting long delays all summer as they resurface the road. But here, too, that wouldn't affect weeknights and weekends. I've been on this road at night recently, and it's coming along nicely, but they really are resurfacing the entire road, so no telling what the conditions might be like in some areas, and they probably change from week-to-week.

I haven't been on Angeles Crest Highway 2(from the 210 in the La Canada area to the Mount Wrightwood area at the 138, then easterly to I-15) lately, so I can't attest to its conditions. But given the infinite wisdom of the LA County DOT, since they love to close down all such throughways at the same time, seemingly just to make it a PITA for drivers, I wouldn't be surprised if Angeles Crest Highway 2 is also undergoing major reconstruction at this time too.

*Edit: Amending the paragraph immediately above this one... I drove Angeles Crest Highway 2 this afternoon, and it's wide open and clear, no road work. It's a nice, long drive. So the only road work is on Angeles Forest Highway, from its turn off of Angeles Crest Highway 2 to Palmdale, which probably wouldn't be on any itinerary anyway. *End Edit*

Most of you cruisers seem to come from far south and southeast of Los Angeles, so your drive up to these mountain areas would probably be longer than the time it would take to cruise the mountain roads themselves, so it's probably not worth your time to make such a trip.

However, for an entire day of cruising and a real adventure, the cruise from the 210 to Mount Wrightwood on Angeles Crest Highway 2 could be combined with the ROTW cruise, as Highway 138(at the 2's end) will take you to I-15, then it continues east of I-15, past Silverwood Lake, through Crestline, hits Highway 18, which will then take you past Lake Arrowhead, through Running Springs and eventually link up to the ROTW route to Big Bear. Or just take I-15 up to the 138 and go east from there. I did it several years ago with the intent of hooking up with the ROTW cruise, but I had left too late in the day to catch up and also had underestimated how long it would take to drive the 138 east of I-15, which is very tight, twisty and slow, so I ended-up making the run alone(my favorite way to cruise anyway lol). It's a fun drive, but it's a tough one. Seriously, you and your 3rdgen need to be up to the task. And if anyone does it with a manual transmission, when you approach the 18 from the 138, you have a stop sign on a very steep incline--very steep-- so be sure your parking brakes work! Just throwing that out there for thought.

What's the SCTPI and Big Bear Cruise? Is there a webpage or Facebook page? Thanks!
